    My name is Jennipher. I would like you to know that I watched your video about 10 times. Then I performed this repair. Yes a girl can do it! It took me about 4 hours. Thank you so much for the video and tips. I purchased a hot knife and the replacement blender door for cheap. The rest was all just my time. A/C works great! I was able to take the body control module out without unplugging it, so I didn't have to calibrate anything.

      @@val010673 1: Remove the BCM by unclipping the plastic latch and disconnecting the connections.
      2: Remove two screws holding the plastic duct and remove the duct.
      3: Remove the actuator by removing the two screws holding it to the heater box.
      4: mark where your cut is going to be and start cutting.

      @@val010673 Other than the side panel that runs along the seat, it simply snaps off with a slight pull.

    Hey 737 mechanic!!! I wanted to say a big thank you for this video. The time you took to go through what you did and to show a great video description is/was invaluable. I have a 2013 RS that I have had since 2015 with only 58K miles on it, when the blend door failed. I did exactly what you did and everything works. That $20 part and $17 hotknife worked like a charm. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Anyone reading this, 737 explains it to the "T". Took me about 5 hours to fix because I took my time (and YOUR SHOULD TOO) and this was worth it. Saved me $4000. Again, I can't say it enough. Thank you. Your video was very much appreciated.

    I just completed this repair on my wife’s car and want to say thank you for this video! It was not an easy task by any means, but with the seat out and all the tools within reach of the contortionist position you have to get in it was definitely doable. Lay a thick foam pad down over the seat wiring harness and to lessen the pressure on your lumbar from the hump in the floorboard.

    Thank you for this video! I just completed the repair on my 2013 1SS today. Your attention to detail (especially in getting those video shots) made the difference, and even a 6 foot 2 inch guy like me was able to complete the work (with slightly bruised elbows). I think the three most useful tips are: 1 - remove the drivers seat (easy and essential), 2 - the footwell air duct can be removed (just keep pulling), and 3 - where to cut, with a hot knife. I ended up purchasing a hot knife for working with foam, and it worked extremely well.

      Yeah, I truly didn’t know how easy it is to remove a seat. I’ve always just comforted myself to fit down there but this job is next to impossible without removing the seat. At least for me. My back would be destroyed 🥴 I’m 6’ tall so I’m up there 😆 the air duct almost made me think this wasn’t doable 😆 kept going though. Just got the door out. Waiting on the new door from Amazon now 🤞

    Great video! Just finished doing mine and here some steps I did that I either missed in the video or learned while I was doing it.
    1. Removing the seat.
    T-50 Torx bit required. Those bolts are hard to remove by hand with a socket wrench! If you don’t have a drill like he does, use a breaker bar to loosen the bolts.
    2. Removing the body control module and harness: @8:35
    To remove the plastic air vent easier, this is an absolutely necessary first step. Also remove the the BCM’s harness by pulling on the two clips and releasing it from the metal.
    3. Remove wiring from the BCM
    Take a picture of the orientation before removing the wires to make it easier to reattach. If the wiring harness won’t come off, use a flat head screwdriver to lift the edge slightly after you depress the release tab. You can now set it aside so it’s out of your way.
    4. Remove the air vent.
    The BCM and harness on my vehicle prevented me for getting the air vent off easily. But, once it’s off, that vent slides right out without obstruction.
    5. Removing the motor
    There are two screws holding that thing together. One you can see, the other you can’t because it’s on the other side of the motor. Just feel around with your socket and you’ll be able go locate it. Once you have the motor unscrewed, you can remove it from the wiring harness and set it aside so it’s not dangling while you work.
    6. Cutting:
    LOLOLOL good luck! That piece does not come off easy after it’s cut. This step made me wish we had a national slap an engineer day for putting all of us in this position.
    7. Attaching the new blend door:
    It’s held by 2 points: one in a hole inside and the motor. Make sure when you stick in the blend door that it’s in the hole on the other side. You know it’s in if you let go, the blend door sags a bit.
    8. Attaching the motor:
    The blend door will hang in the open position (warm). Before attaching the motor, wire it back up and start your car. Make sure the air/heater is turned OFF before you start. Turn your heat setting to warm so the motor and the blend door start at the same location when you reattach the motor.
    9. Seal everything back up and put everything back in reverse order. Air vent, BCM harness, BCM, and reattach the wiring.
    10. Put the seat back and reattach the wiring under and you’re done! You just saved yourself $3000! 🎉🎉

      Hey thanks for posting this. What did you use to cut the plastic with? I tried a cheap hot knife from harbor freight and got about 3 inches cut in an hour before the knife broke..

      @@luisrios9745 no you dont just dont put your ac on max to prevent it from breaking again you want to back it off from pointing at the blue dot about 2 times, this computer is recalibrating the positioning so that its not adding the extra force that causes the break initally. of you dont care about any of that then just be ready to do it again in about 3-5 years if not sooner

    I live in CALIFORNIA, took my car to the dealer to find out I was having the exact same issue. They were charging me $3,300 to fix it so I decided to do it my self. This video is pure GOLD, I was able to replace the part over LABOR day weekend and my ac is back 100%..... THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video, I really appreciate it.

      @@tvg_2234 i had hard time getting the part put even i cut everything. But the trick is to use screw driver and pry it out from bottom top right part and work your way to the top part and push the cut part down. It's a pain but comes out. Took me 20 minutes to figure it out

    Thanks Completed door replacement today on 2013 SS camaro . Paid dealer $400 to tell me door is broken but i gues the video alredy told me that . They wanted $3660 to take out dash.

    If it was not for this video and instructions there is no way i would have attempted this on my own. This video was a huge help and I just spent this weekend working on my 2015 Camaro RS. Followed all these instructions and would have gave up for sure if I hadn’t heard and seen it done on video.     Foot vent installation - SOLVED
    Great video, easy fix (although I agree that the cut plastic piece doesn't go back into place very well), however I spent an additional 2 hours trying to reinstall the foot vent. Turns out once you have the sequence, it is VERY easy. Note: Install the actuator before these final steps.
    1. Remove all of the connectors from the control module. (This was secret#1. I was doing all of the work with this pushed aside and all of the connectors still on) Each has a simple locking tab you push with your thumb while pulling up to remove.
    2. Remove the control module per the video.
    3. Remove the plastic mount for the control module. (This was secret#2. It gets in the way of installing the foot vent, but is easy to install after vent is in place) It is removed by slightly lifting on the two tabs at the bottom, angling it out slightly, using the top as a hinge, then lifting up. I'd suggest practicing reinstalling it without the foot vent installed so you get a feel of how it connects.
    4. With the control module mount removed, it is now VERY easy to install the foot vent. Put the screws in loosely so it stays in place, but can move around a bit. You'll tighten them after installing the control module and wire harness.
    5. Reinstall control module mounting bracket. Rotate it 90-degrees to get it past the foot vent, then rotate it back to position and use what you learned practicing to reinstall it.
    6. Slide the control module into the mounting bracket until it snaps into position.
    7. Reconnect the wiring harness.
    8. Tighten the 2 screws on the foot vent.
    All done!! I'd suggest waiting for the RTV to set (if you used any) before running the air otherwise you will push air past it and possibly get whistling.
    I'd also suggest having the door calibrated. This helps ensure the actuator doesn't over-drive the door and break it again. This is not because you removed the control module connectors, but because the system doesn't know what position you placed the door vs what position the actuator is in.

    Thanks to you and other youtubers for posting these help videos! I finally bit the bullet and performed this repair before it got too hot. I definitely recommend taking out the driver seat as it is very cramped under that steering wheel! Fortunately for me I have a friend who is a 5'4", 135 lb Filipino (ha ha). He was definitely able to maneuver better than I was.
    This repair isnt particularly difficult itself, just the tight space. My air now works great again and instead of dropping 2k at the dealer it just cost me a Saturday morning, $18 for the part and beer and pizza for my friend!

    I followed your video and fixed mine. Everything went great except popping the cut piece out. Took me 25 minutes to get it out and i burned the top of hand. But worth it. I also calibrated the air blend valve myself perfectly without programming machine!

    Just completed this - thanks for the video!!
    Heard the broken piece of the blend door fall as soon as I took off the actuator, so I knew.
    hardest part for me was getting the cut piece out - I broke off the higher screw hole trying to pry it, but epoxied it back on. The $15 hot knife was def worth it.
    I scratched the heater core with a dremel, but the side of it facing you is a metal sheet - don't know how thick but I was scared. It didn't get punctured though, but its' easy to hit...
    Fitting the piece back in was hard too, I used a dremel on the edges to smooth it out. Then I epoxied the cut.

    I just performed this and it went perfect! Thanks for the video. I might add that a lot of guys report that the duct is a bear to remove and install. If you remove the body module, there is a plastic mount that is attached to the metal frame that holds the module. There are two tabs that hold that mount to the frame, remove that and that duct will go in and out like cake. 😊

    Great video and instructions. Replaced mine today, took me about 4 hours total. Used a Dremel to do the cuts and really took my time to be sure not to cut the heater core. So far no error codes. Thanks

    The key caution use of the AC is to not use the max setting on the AC.I learned how to keep the vent door flap from stressing out watching your video.My blend door end connector snapped off.I cut the plastic area out to repair the door.Use a electrical heated knife or a pencil tip soldering iron the Dremel tool is to dangerous,you could slip and cut wires or the heater core .I used epoxy and put a 3 inch screw through the end connector.If I need to replace the door in the future ,it will be easy,since the plastic panel is cut.10/10/2022.

      Mine is a 2015 Camaro V6.These blend doors wear out even if you do not use the max settings.The plastic door gets brittle with age and the heater cooks the plastic.The door should have been made from aluminum.Camaro with 70,000 miles.

    Anyone should be able to fix this problem with this video. This is an excellent video. Take your time! It took me about 2 1/2 hours, and I used a soldering iron after my blade holder broke.

      @@livinglife8489 i used a electeic soldering iron i sharpened the tip of it like a blade shape and it worked perfectly with out making a big gap and no risk of damaging the heater core . if you working on your vehicle i highly recommend it to you it wont take a lot of time to get the job done also it saves you a lot of money

    Thanks for the video . I got it apart and found the door broken .Unfortunately I already replaced the compressor and condenser and had it recharged . But the good thing is once I put the door back in I should be good for several years . Thanks again your video was very informative .

    I am following ur video thank you so much? I am just having a real hard time removing the cut out pcs? Any advice on how i did the cutting and did the screw drive but still not coming out?

      Make sure the top two side where they meet with the upper HVAC box are cut deep enough. Then use two screw drivers and slowly work the piece until it breaks free. You can also use a putty knife to help pry it out..

    I’ve watched your videos and all are very helpful but on the camero blend door why can’t a guy in from the passenger side instead of driver’s side

      You may be able to do it on the passenger side also but you would probably have to remove the actuator which is on the drivers side so you could get the door and actuator lined back up.

I have the blend door but my size is really psyching me out on doing this. I have the same car. Black 2013 Camaro leather interior.

    I just did this to my 2014 Camaro today. WHAT A BITCH! My heat and AC had both been barely working for like the last year. Wasn’t sure what it was exactly til I found out about this issue. My blend door was so twisted up I couldn’t believe that little actuator had torque like that.
    Making the cut with a decent hot knife actually wasn’t totally horrible, it’s just the cramped space you have to work in really sucks. Taking the seat out made it better but still. Hardest part for me was actually getting the plastic piece out after the cut, and then getting it to fit back in place perfectly was impossible. And then getting the floor air duct back in, forget about it, I left it out. This is the type of shit that makes me never want a Chevy again. Took me about 6 hours and a lot of cussing to get this done but cost me $40 vs $3k.

    Just bought a 2013 2SS Camaro. Its got the LS 6.2 and some upgraded long tube headers. But the first couple days out and ive got no heat. Had the actuator out this morning and its working just fine. So now I'm looking at starting this same process. Wish me luck.

    I did this job today. Took me about 1.5 hours and it seemed like it took just as long trying to get the air duct and BCM to cooperate for reinstall...🤣🤣
    I was test fitting the cut-out piece before putting it back together and I had to trim some of the channels on the inside of the piece I cut out. After that, it went pretty smooth and I also used some RTV to seal the gap I created.

    Great video!!! GM should’ve made an access door, something similar to in cabin air filter access. But, that would’ve kept the average vehicle owner bringing car to stealership. So they can rob you out of thousands of $$$! Yeah, taking the dash & windshield out is the correct way making the repair. Honestly there’s no need taking dash & windshield out. I’ve done it both ways, with the customers consent. Most customers don’t care & want to save thousands of $$$. But, I’ve had a few spend $3,000 because they considered the easier route was a hack job. It’s all about pleasing the customer.
    I considered making a video on replacing blend door until I watched your video. You covered all the bases! Other videos do not cover taking the seat out & actuator relearn. The only thing you didn’t video instructionally was bottom vent tube. But, you explained how to take it out. I’m looking forward to make auto & small engine repair videos soon. Again, great video!

      You're pretty awesome to provide customers with the option. When I didn't know any better - No one I've visited would give me that option. They would just tell me they'd have to pull the dash and windshield. I honestly would prefer this job over pulling everything out. It's less invasive than removing the whole front dash, radio, airbags, arm rest, various modules and windshield . It's easier on the mechanic , my car and my wallet.

    for those who dont know you can use an exacto hot knife which is pretty helpful, can get a bit messy if you arent careful but much safer for the heater core and not as scary as cutting with a dremel or w.e youd use..... nvm lol just watched the very end this dude covered everything possible lol

    I just followed this video and was pleasantly surprised how it went.... but I did have to use my dremel to git thru the plastic supports. I’m gittn too old for this but I’m gonna save this customer a whole bunch of $$$$$. Very good video!

    I might've asked this question elsewhere, I don't recall. When you are under there cutting, are we looking at the bottom of the dash - vertical, or the side of the dash, horizontal, maybe towards the fire wall? Thx.

    Thanks for making a great video! Confirmed what I thought. I've got a '13, only driven spring-fall. Here in MI we're getting dew now on mornings with morning temps in the 60's. I tried my defogger and NO HEAT. Coolant is perfect, and I can hear the actuator motor when I turn the temp knob. Luckily mine is stuck with the heat closed off, so my AC works fine. I have to fix it before fall for sure. I'm giving GM customer service a workout, attempting to get a new flap out of them. Not expecting much, but I want to cost them at least their cost of the part in the reps labor. For me it's a matter of principal. I had a perfectly good air blend door flap, and they figured the actuator limits wrong, wrenching the pivoting ear off. There REALLY should at least be a TSB on this or a letter mailed to customers not to turn the temp knob left of the blue dot. When I replace mine, in the summer I will set the temp a tick right of the blue dot and then unplug the actuator. I think the actuator moves when the car is turned off, as I've heard the motor before. I don't know where it parks the flap in that case, which is why I want to disconnect it for summer just in case. I was thinking of maybe leaving only one screw in the actuator, slightly loose, so it can pivot. My worry with that though is if it does any self-calibrating, it might get more out of whack, causing more trouble.
    This is an issue that could easily be PREVENTED with a software patch/update.

      Just grind down the tip of the exact knife blade and you will be fine. As long as you are using the hot knife method you will not puncture it.

    Thanks for this video! It was thorough and you did a great job documenting every detail. My 2014 Camaro stopped blowing cold air recently and to be without a/c is not an option here in Phoenix in the summer. Took car to dealer and just as you mentioned, they said the windshield would need to come out so they could pull the dashboard. Fortunately, I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car 4 years ago so I'll only be paying a $100 deductible. Also, the mileage on mine is ~63K so blend door failed relatively early. Thanks again for making this video, I'm sure it wasn't easy! -Tom

    I am getting ready to tackle my broken blend door. Your video is absolutely perfect! One quick question maybe you could shed some light on....Is there a reason a hole couldnt be cut on the passenger side where there is less in the way? I would imagine i would have to get creative with re attaching the cut out pc since there wouldnt be any bolts. Im sure theres a reason but curious..thanks

      I am sure you could but the part that breaks off the door is on the driver's side and you need to be able to dig it out to make sure it doesn't prevent the door from moving to its full extent.

      @@PlymouthBarracudaV8Hemi The recirc and the temp are to different things. They both have their own door that opens and closes. There is a setting that can be set to help eliminate orders but you have to use a scan tool to turn it on. It is called afterblow mode which allows the blower motor to operate after the engine has been turned off. This operation of the blower motor dries the evaporator core, which reduces the amount of microbial growth which can create undesirable odors.

    I just tried to get that duct and body control module in in the order you described and im about to go postal trying to get the plastic bracket back in around the steering column and wiring harness. I thought I was almost done when I got the blend door replaced and the panel reinstalled and actuator on. These are the days where you want to hunt down the engineers and cram them into the footwell and make them do this. Maybe if they had to work on it once in awhile, they might think about component location.

      Normally the A/C will not work but the heat will.

    EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND READ MY COMMENT!
    there’s a couple things you’re gonna wanna do. Expect to start by finding the tools you need. One is 7/32 socket and the other is like a T-10 bit or close to that. I used a regular solder! No blade or anything, you can also use a multi tool if you’re careful but solder is recommended. Your hand will cramp because you have to use just your left the whole time. But again it’s doable.
    It’s a much smaller space than it looks like on all these videos, but it’s doable. I’m 6’3. Find a comfortable spot, and get to work! First thing is to yank out the thing that’s in your way. I don’t know if there is a way, just pull and twist and jiggle wiggle until it comes flying out. Worth it.
    Then throw it aside and unscrew the actuator. Different bits, make sure you have what you need. Use a small ratchet.
    You pull it off and then disconnect by the push pin. I didn’t bother with the green thing here, it’s not really in the way. I have XL hands and I was fine. You can start up your solder and get going.
    I didn’t cut nearly as big as he did, but you can. This was the longest part. It’s just slow, and you have to trace 2-3 times after it’s cut. And then it’s no simple task to rip it out. You have to PRY the cut plastic out!? I don’t know why but you do. So pull, twist, cut yourself somehow, and out it goes!
    I had to fish around for the blend door, mine had fallen off and deep in there. Anyways I grabbed it out, and got the new door placed in there. It’s a struggle to line up the other end but it only takes a minute. Then you just close it up and I’m using duct tape to seal it! Well done guys. No biggie and $3000 saved. I’m only 17 too so if I can do a “hard” job so can you. Good luck!

      When I wasn't getting cold air anymore but the low pressure line under the hood was ice cold I got access to the actuator and seen it was broke.

    Hey I have a question which way does the blend door need to be facing when replaced and what is the ac knob should be placed on

      The blend door will only go in one way and as long as the actuator couples to the door it doesn't matter where the knob is at. If you don't have a scan tool to do a relearn disconnect the battery and reconnect it and when you turn the key on it will do a self calibrate.

      @@SickoTexasYes, when you get the blend door in and the side panel back on you will bolt the actuator on and it will couple onto the blend door one way and be able to bolt up. You will not be able to couple the actuator to the door wrong and still be able to get the actuator to screw onto the HVAC housing.

My 2010 CTS was the 1st car I've ever owned in 20+ years of driving that I had to remove the whole front bumper just to replace the headlights...after watching this video I'm probably not even gonna purchase a 2012 'maro I was eyeballing (among a few other concerns) AND I'm gonna make sure my cousin flushes out that heater core every year on hers! I can only imagine what the labor charge would be to replace that nightmare if it fails💰💰💰

    Best video out there for this fix. I had a bit of trouble popping out the piece, but eventually got it out. My only problem is putting the foot vent tube back in. Tried for a while, then gave up. Didn't want to break anything by forcing the damn thing. Could you possibly do a video for install the vent? Thanks for help.

    Sorry. I didn’t mean to sent that comment I was searching and accidentally posted it.
    This is a very good video, and I believe is what the problem is with my daughters car. They want $2200 to do it and remove the windshield.
    She is 18 and a new mom so she doesn’t have the money to pay that much.
    I am use to most of what you did being a Tesla tech so the main thing is knowing where to cut and not nick the heater core.
    Found the part on amazon from your answer to another listing the link, and got a hot knife.
    Now I just have to find the time to do this job for her.
    Anything else not in the video that would be a helpful tip would be appreciated.

      Try to cut up to the factory split as much as possible, that is where it tends to want to hang on when trying to pry it out. After you cut all the way around take a couple screwdrivers and slowly work your way around while you pry and it will slowly work its way apart more and more. After you get the side you cut popped loose from the case trim it up to make it easier to reinstall. After it is reinstalled I have been using RTV to finish sealing the seam. I have done 5 of them now and all 5 have turned out great. I also ended up grinding the sharp point off my hot knife to lessen the chance of accidentally piercing the heater core.

      @@737mechanic thanks those are good tips. Probably use urethane to dry a little stiffer to keep structure to the box, and if need be it’s still easy to cut out again.

      Well took everything apart, but was able to feel that the blend door was closing and could feel and hear the movement. Plugged body controller back in and the actuator actually functioned as designed. Recovered and recharged the system, and had cold air. So Ben mynatt Chevy in concord NC is full of crap and tried to take my daughter for $2500. Idiots tried to take a 18 year old new mom and her fiancé to the cleaners when they are trying to start a life as a family. Thanks for the lesson on this issue so I was able to correctly diagnose the issue. I do have to say the vent is a royal pain in the ass to remove and replace.

    Excellent job and video. I have a 2013 and am experiencing with ac on, cold coming out passenger side center and door vent but warm air coming out on driver's side center and door vents.
    Do you think this would be my problem?

      Sounds like that is the problem I have a 2012 that's doing that and AC line is cold and dripping condensation underneath and everything but the last confirmation is try moving to heat and if temperature remains the same then this is the problem

    what should the blend mode be set to prior to installing the new actuator? Full heat or full cool? I'm not sure what position the new module is set to.

      Cold is where I set it but it shouldn't matter as long as the splined plastic piece mats up right then it should be all good.

    Thank you for the video! If I dont have a scan tool do I need to take this to the dealer for recalibration? I guess im asking if the recal has to be done. Took me about 2 hrs to cut...hardest part was getting the piece to pop out. 53 yo female non mexhanically inclined. This is doable..just takes patience!

      I should probably explain....so the door falls to the down position when you put it in. I just plugged in the actuator and put setting on max heat, When I remounted the actuator it lined up (with the door) perfectly and high heat and high cool appear to work fine. So...I would guess the BEST practice would be to recalibrate with a scan tool, but without one should I be ok? Or should I just bite the bullet and pay for a recal?

    Having a similar problem, thought this might have been it but not so sure now. 2013 camaro, blows hot when it’s set to cold and cool when set to hot. Never heard of this before. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

      Thats a new one on me. Might be that you need to do a calibration on the door actuators.

      @@737mechanic not sure why it was doin that at first, next day it didn’t work at all and I ended up having to change the blend door to fix it. 👍🏻
