The phone was fixed. I'll post part 2 tonight. The problem was the 3v Nand line. Thank you for all who pointed this out. I overlooked it even thought I've done it on this channel many times before. First person who pointed this out was @moh ak. Thank you Moh, a long time follower of the channel and Thank You all.

Had a similar issue like this where i thought i had a shorted PMU IC but on a iPhone 6, turned out to be a short on PP3V0_NAND. i would start looking around the NAND area first. This line goes exactly where the heat is coming from.

Been watching your channel for quite some time. Great videos. Just repaired my first xbox series X the other day (HDMI replacement). In the video I used your "we did an awsome job" but I also added "as Northridge fix would say". It took a fair amout of heat and time to remove the HDMI connector, was wondering if I need a better rework station (currently using a 858D).

What temp and air speed did you use?
Low melt solder also makes a huge difference in time to remove
Last one i did if I'm not mistaken, using my quick 861dw I used 470c and 110 for air speed, came off in 10-20 seconds.

Just have to ask, i'm not the best level 3 technician but i can do the more basic repairs. I had a iPhone 6 that had a PMU getting really hot and i searched on google for a solution cause i didn't feel like PMU fail a lot. Came across a video where a guy did a repair on a 6 with the same problem, turned out it was a bad cap near the NAND that was shorted but still the PMU was generating all the heat. Could the same thing apply here?

I have a DELL XPS 15 9560 with Intel i7 chip and solid state memory that I bought in 2018.
It has been on and powered up almost the entire time I've had it.
Never had any problems with the computer.
Still has the original battery. (Will hold a 3 hr charge, down from the original 6 hr charge.)
I did replace the power charger last year. (Failed due to constant twisting of the cord around the charging unit)
Just wanted you to know about this particular computer and its incredible reliability.
And, its touch screen still works.

I think this is one time when you just replace the motherboard but that probably loses the customers data on the flash storage, in that case they might just prefer a new phone I guess..

  • @davidlguerr

The same with Apple. Everytime they raise the price and customers are willing to pay, they will raise it more, because they see customers are willing to pay. As long as people are dumb enough to give them reason to raise prices, they will continue to do it. I guess Asus is buying the cheaper stuff they can get, or maybe there are engineering flaws that cause stress on some components.

Hi I would propose just to reflow the IC where you the heat development was seen, without any attempt to remove it. As the phone have been dropped, it is possible that one or more of the solder ball connections are degraded ( in spite of the underfill). Once you reflow (heating up) the IC, the degraded solder ball connection(s) could be repaired if you are lucky. The underfill will help to keep the solder balls in place.I know it is also risky because of the many components aoround.

@@sschueller The truth is, most manufacturers/vendors do provide warranties, as customers expect them. They aren't legally required though, and sometimes they are very short. Better reputation manufacturers provide better warranties in general. Battery instantly starts to work. Reason? I don't really know, but it worked for me several times

Is it that Asus laptops are generally a problem, or is it that Asus laptops tend to get bought by gamers who then overclock everything into oblivion and wonder why they don't then last? (Genuine question) Do you ever look at BIOS settings when you repair a laptop to see whether it is in standard setup or overclocked?

Pretty sure that's the underfill he's referring to, it's there to protect the components or to keep them stuck to the board. I think it's the same type of goop they put around CPU/GPU silicon to counteract the forces of contraction and expansion as the component heats up/cools down. I could be wrong though but just saying.

Good job! I know you are busy but it would be very useful if you make make a chart of devices that are sent to you for device. For example, you had 10 ROG laptop 2021 model, 8 hp, 5 etc. Then we can compare this with the market share of each brand to check if there is any pattern or it's just a matter low quality components.
