    After some flailing about, I found this. Clearly enunciated and well-illustrated - told me just what I needed to know. Many, many thanks! You should be employed by Microsoft!

    Thank you so much! You're a star! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
    I had two unnecessary lines of empty text that I got rid of by using backspace button and then additionally went to formatting to change line spacing from 1.5 to Single.

    Great video!
    I was looking for a way to not have footnotes divided into 2 pages, which you did not cover in this video, but the information is extremely clear and I learned some other things. Thank you.

    Thank you for the tutorial. The footnote separator was driving me nuts. I love your accent too.

    Great video! I figured out how to change the left margin indent, but I don't know how to shorten it? Any ideas?

    Great video! Question: sometimes my footnotes go on&on and the main text shrinks in page lines, and that’s fine. The line footnote separator goes up accordingly. Sometimes it just leaves a bigger space then necessary. If you look on the next page text, some of it could still be in the preceding page, but isn’t. How can you adjust the height of the separator (or the footnote area size) so that blank spaces don’t appear or are filled with text? Sometimes the footnote is so long that it goes over to the next page, and that’s fine, but it would fit on the same page if the footnote separator would go up to half page. Why doesn’t it go higher? ....

      Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you found it useful. I admit I don't experience this situation often, but it doesn't surprise me that Word will do something unpredictable. I've just tested putting a lot of text in a file and it seemed fine. It appears the space between the footnote area and the text above it is determined by the bottom margin setting. When I made the bottom margin larger, the space decreased and vice versa when I made that margin smaller.
      Without seeing the document, it may be that there's an object (e.g. an image) that's affecting the space. Try changing the margin and see how you get on.
      You can also select a separator and check/set its Paragraph formatting. Select and right-click it and select Paragraph - you can then see if the Space Before and After settings are more than 0. That may also have an effect.

      @@NatalieLawrenceDesign Thanks for taking the time to answer. Great! I could send you a couple of print screens so you can see what happens but I do not know how to send them to you. I'll try your suggestions and let you know. Hello from the Azores Islands :)

    Hi Natalie! Thanks so much!! It was really helpful!! I also need help to reduce the area of footnote, what I mean is: I have 16 lines of text on the first page and I want to reduce to 10 lines of text, How I could do that?

    • @NatalieLawrenceDesign
      @NatalieLawrenceDesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this sounds like a really simple answer but reducing the amount of text is the first solution that comes to mind! Also, reducing the size of the margins might also help, or reducing the font size of the Footnote text style.

    Hi, Natalie Thanks for the video. Can you make a video on " how to keep several footnotes on one line in 2016 without leaving a second copy in the next line? "

    When I do this, there's no drop-down at the top of the notes area where I can choose Separator.

    • @NatalieLawrenceDesign
      @NatalieLawrenceDesign  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray. That's odd. So when you've added a footnote, gone into Draft or Outline view, then pressed the Show Notes button, there still isn't a grey Footnotes bar and a dropdown box with the words "All Footnotes" in it?

  • @vicmiami

    But, How to adjust it's length?

    • @NatalieLawrenceDesign
      @NatalieLawrenceDesign  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Rao, I've had a quick search for a solution to see if there have been any updates but unfortunately, it still seems like you can't change the length. I've seen a comment suggesting inserting in Em dashes at the end of the footnote separator, but when I do it, I can clearly see gaps between these dashes. Plus, this only works to extend the length, not shorten it. So at the moment, I haven't seen a way to adjust it, I'm afraid.
