  • RV in Snowstorm! Black ice! Hundreds of cars and semi-trucks sliding off the interstate. Many are flipping on their sides. I have a zero-tolerance rule! Driving a 33,000 pound, 36' motorhome in snow or on ice - FORBIDDEN. The risk to life and limb is too great. We thought we could outrun the storm, but... we got caught and had to wait it out.

We rented a 40 foot Newmar, sorry if I spelt it wrong, from a private owner, a few years back. It was really nice, but I was surprised how much they creak. Still a fun experience

I hope it was an enjoyable experience. These things are full of creaks and rattles and all kinds of surprises. Thanks for stopping by our channel.

We've been out in the mid teens, and yes I agree, RVing gets less fun as the temps drop!

I've made some adjustments to my preparation. Mainly, I realized that I can set the furnace to 72 and it will never get there. So, why not turn on the fireplace, too? Furnace and fireplace, we achieved a tolerable 67 degrees. I'm going to add some insulation and do some more tweaking, because I like the cold (I'm fat!)

Neat stuff! I often think of camping in the snow being fun, all nice and comfy while surrounded by the great outdoors, but I'd imagine it's not always so great in reality. Have you done anymore since this? Also, do you ever go off grid and boondock? Thanks for the channel 🙂

We have boondocked in icy weather. Brrrr... Since this video, I'm added insulation to all exterior walls and put a rug on the floor. It has made quite a difference. When outside temps are 40 and below, we run the furnace and the fireplace. Gotta wear long johns, double socks and drink lots of coffee. We can keep the inside temp to between 68 and 70. Camping in the cold beats staying at home! Thanks for stopping by!

Lmao, the universal language of the wife... "do you know where you're going?" We're not even on the road and you don't know cardinal directions! Calm down!

    Too cold for me!!!!!

Hmmm... maybe because I spent so many years in Ohio, but I prefer this icy, snowy weather to the Tennessee humid summers. I learned a lot about preparing for extreme cold temperatures. Can't wait to do it again.

Yeah, buddy. When the rear tires began to slide around, it was time to get off the road. Thanks for stopping by and y'all come back now, ya hear.

@@MrJacksJourney oh, okay. I get that. Drove a recycle truck years ago. Forgot how useless it was in snow and ice due to the rear end being so light and a single axle. I didn't realize you got caught actually driving in it. My apologies friend

@@dionst.michael1482 Yep. On our way from Nashville to visit family in Ohio. I thought I could outrun the storm, but we got caught. My rule: never drive on ice.
