@@ooossccar.7515 i have to agree and disagree the 400ex is geared shorter for more woods terrain and the ltz400 is geared longer giving it has a higher top speed but these facts are for stock quads so
Never said he didn't, he does good work!... I don't have the videos he does but ive been wrenching on motorcycles and quads, cars, trucks a long time..
Wearing shorts in the rain while riding. I live on Washington state so I can relate. Never seen someone only grab the clutch when your ready to shift. I always keep my two fingers on.
Figured the z would win. When you mod it, it's a beast! 14/40 is stock for the ltz 400. Definitely should try replacing the cdi box! Shouldn't be hitting the rev limiter that quick. I have a dynatek cdi on mines. Cool video
A spare horse that literally won’t die no matter what you do* hahaha coming from me doing a 3 minute burnout fresh out of a trail riding sesh engine already hot asf Idk how it didn’t overheat lmao
2vintage what’s the gearing on the z400 it sounds like it’s geared low is why it’s hitting the rev limiter so fast and the Kawasaki kfx400 is the same quad as the z400 and dvx400
personally, i like air cooled more than liquid cooled, its just less things to worry about, + i've never had a problem with over heating on a air cooled. And i've owned many different air cooled bikes and trikes.
To be honest if check the specs on the sprockets on the ltz . The previous owner may have changed them for the type of riding he was doing because it tops out way too quick. My brother had one and his wasn't like that at all. It stretched out more like the 400ex.
I just got the Trx700xx...Its a MONSTER! And I also have the KFX 700....You know...the only 2 Quads you haven't had on here! So now I have a automatic and a manual...🤘 Grow a pair and get some 700s!
Pretty much soon as you shift into another gear, you should be ready to shift in another one. You don’t sit in them gears you shift you pin that throttle shift as fast as you can and that bike will eat you’ll get the hang of it the more you get the ride then bikes are. Fun to ride.
@@joshbannon8989 400ex is far better and I've had both machines and several hundred more. Ltz is known for snapping frames when they were raced and handle like shit on a track
Of course the Suzuki is faster its LQ cooled. Both machines need a aftermarket rev limiter box makes such a big difference. After riding my RM 125 my buddy wanted me to try is 400EX. I could barely ride it just kept hitting the rev limiter. He eventually got exhaust jet kit and aftermarket rev box omg what a difference. I actually enjoyed riding it after that totally different machine.
Traded my 01 EX back to the Honda dealership that told me there wasn't anything wrong with it. Bought a new 954RR and never looked back. The sale guy called to ask if I ever had a problem getting it to start 🤣
I sold one 400ex a couple years ago, just bought another 2 days ago, she needs some work, but I already went overboard buying parts, pissed off the lady, but ehh, ill just go riding!
I have a 07 carb and 09 fuel injection z 400 and mine don’t hit rev limit that fast they must have changed the cogs and lowered the speed u need the plug and play over ride
400ex needs the 440 kit to possibly hang with the newer 400’s, get your hands on a Polaris outlaw or predator with the ktm motor, should be cheap and good addition to the channel!
Having owned 3 ltz400s over the past 16 years; I can assure you that ltz400 is not running the stock gearing at all, maybe a 13T front sprocket probably, cause a stock 14T z400 is no gonna hit that rev limiter that fast! Also, you were racing all the way to 5th gear? Cause that looked like 4th gear 🤔🤔
I think you and chuck owe yer pops some lawn work ... maybe overseed his lawn and aerate ... rent pull behind spreader and aerator and use quads...get a few hours of content as a bonus
Was riding my uncles 450 the over day they are awesome machines but I forgot the gearing was 1-n-2-3-4 (can’t remember if there a 5 lol) & I kept trying to take off in 2nd I did it a couple of times then I got sick of it & got of 😂 then I learned 1st was down but I hurt my hand & didn’t wanna ride, the only thing I hated was how stiff it felt & the rough terrain I was riding on.
Wow the ltz obviously has issues with rev limiter cutting in early and it STILL reels in the 400ex lol. And the 400ex is geared taller so should have beat it in top speed but still couldnt lol. 400ex's are great with a few bolt ons to uncork them, great all around quad. The ltz is just a generation of development ahead of the ex.
Ltz400 should be faster and its better than the Honda because it has reverse. Both are great for wheelies but the ltz400 shifts like butter and its very reliable. That ltz400 looks like it seen better days.
You should grab some trx450 or yfz450 front shocks they pretty much bolt on to the 400ex i think the trx rear shock as well. And run the sprocket at 14 /40 you can keep up with most motocross 250 four strokes whithout much problem
Z400 kicks Honda ass everytime on equal playing field. The z400 is the ultimate light quad...only 3lbs less than ex but a stock z is crazy fast/geared for it's size. The ex is mehhhh....just normal mainstream stuff. In my experience of 50 plus years, it's the best bang for the buck ANY YEAR on quads.
i mean the 400 ltz has more power cause from what i seen watercooled make more power then air cooled cause they can cool it better down. but aircooled is bit simpler to maintain i find. less parts, but not good for slow high revs riding.
Hey 2vintage man You should really make a vid on how to rebuild and replace your brakes on one of these atvs, Im having an absurd amount of trouble and cant find anything to help me
I had a 400ex with K&n Air filter and a slip on fmf pipe and it felt to me like the kfx400 i had that was stock was faster. couldnt race them side by side but now ill know
well that was a gimmie. But MY 2003 honda 450 would drop them both in a heartbeat. and handles and rides like the Ex.Easy nimble and MEAN...especially with the cam and high compression piston.

Do you sell quads or just fix them up.
You need sprockets on that Z400. Too small.
Ltz because I have smoked 400 ex with 440kits in them and still beat them and I’m on the stock bore
I'm picking the Zuki.
LtZ 500 2 stroke
Having owned both, I could have told you. If a z loses to an ex. There's definitely something wrong with the z.
@@ooossccar.7515 i have to agree and disagree the 400ex is geared shorter for more woods terrain and the ltz400 is geared longer giving it has a higher top speed but these facts are for stock quads so
I have owned both and currently a z400 turned into a 470 stroker but z all the way
Wrong lol
@@ooossccar.7515 z400 is faster than a 400ex.
I’ll always choose a 400ex over any other 400 even if it’s a little slower - 400ex kills on the trails tho it moves well
I had a 400 ex just identical to that one for like 8 years and that thing NEVER left me stranded on the trail!
If was hard to kill those air cooled honda's
Those things go for ever

He. Did
The Honda might have a Wing, but it doesn't have a prayer
Dude if I drifted in my parents yard I wouldn't be here right now 🤣
YESSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONGG

I think your z400 needs a new cdi box, shouldn't hit the limiter that quick.
Definitely a CDI o
I think he knows what he’s doing 😂
Never said he didn't, he does good work!... I don't have the videos he does but ive been wrenching on motorcycles and quads, cars, trucks a long time..
Most definitely shouldn't be hitting it that quick! Dynatek cdi will take care of that! That's what I have
@@TerrellSpivey I like using oem cdi,, some of the aftermarket are over rev limit.
For anyone wondering artic cat and kawi bought the ltz400 from Suzuki and just put there own plastics on them and named them different

The rev limiter really makes it not reach full rev which i think would have changed the race a lot
Yeah I agree
There's a big difference in the gearing between the sprockets between the two different quads
Love both quads mid to top end Ltz it's faster but not by much the EX has more bottom end Great Video
I think I might get myself a Honda however! Pretty impressed! Having a spare horse doesn't hurt ! 🙃🙂
A spare horse that literally won’t die no matter what you do* hahaha coming from me doing a 3 minute burnout fresh out of a trail riding sesh engine already hot asf Idk how it didn’t overheat lmao
Change around your gear ratio on the ltz400, it should help with hitting the rev limiter too early.
2vintage what’s the gearing on the z400 it sounds like it’s geared low is why it’s hitting the rev limiter so fast and the Kawasaki kfx400 is the same quad as the z400 and dvx400

Definitely not normal for that to hit the rev limiter that fast
You need a rev box, this will help with the early rev limiter

The 400ex will outlive that Suzuki 10 times over and is a better bike all around.
To each his own. The LTZ has reverse. Liquid cooled. I had both bikes and the LTZ was a far better machine. But that’s just my opinion.
@@joshbannon8989 400ex is far better and I've had both machines and several hundred more. Ltz is known for snapping frames when they were raced and handle like shit on a track

This Suzuki 400 take a look at the CDI box it should have a flat head screw on it to adjust the rev limiter
You have to switch riders. To really make sure.

Just as I figured. LTZ faster. But the Honda handles really nice and nimble. nice cruiser Great for sport riding.
Do a top speed test on the 400ex!!
I think he has allready
You need to change your clutch plates on the ltz thats why it’s limiting so quick 👌🏻
