- On this episode I build a custom lightweight steering column for a fox body mustang. This steering column ended up being 10 pounds lighter than a factory steering column.

You could buy one, but that's not what you're about huh! Loving you getting back in to Friday Fool and car fab content, keep it coming!
we built our in a similar way for our car. We drilled and tapped the housing for the bearing and added a set screw with a bit of locktite to hold it all together. It has been holding for 30 years now. ;-)
I do about the same thing. I turn down a bar to fit inside the tube and inside the coupler your welding on. The more solid that end is the wheel hooks to. The better feel you have in the steering wheel. On my dirt cars I made them with a solid tube. Just for the better feel of the wheel.
What is up Sir, it looks like you'll have to make another for the Bibster!!!
I'm literally working on designing something like this for my racing sim motion platform rebuild. Your video gave me some good ideas. Thanks!
Nicely done sir
NGL, the custom steering column would look sweet as on the Bibster. Awesome job Bro.
Dang, im excited for this build!! Keep up the killer work man.
What about steel touching aluminum and electrolysis or galvonic corrosion? In construction we separate with shims, tape, caulking, anything to have a space between the two so they dont have a reaction between the two different metals. Just a stupid thought when I saw the bearing in the aluminum
Great job 👍👍
inspired thinks light weight column coming for my Dart.
Too cool
What do you have in mind for your blinkers?
They make one that just almost hose clamps to the colum that was used in old semi trucks, the yard dog/hostler that i used to run at work had that type
most likely will use a switch on the dash....
@@Thefabforumsyou STILL not done building that pile of steaming 💩….

Did you get a lathe? Cant remember?
no, wish I had one
Is the stock column collapsible???
I know most factory columns now days are for safety but not sure these old ones are
Would have been collapsible, that was required since 1968. Been arround alot longer though
