I am working on the same truck, just an 1972 F350. I did watch your video as I had just removed my tank and fill nozzle. I one upped your process by welding a large fender washer with a slight bend w/ a nice weldable gap. I just put a flat piece of thinker steel behind that washer and filled the center in with a weld. This left a nice hump to grind down which matched the bend of the existing body line . Your post was inspirational. Thanks and good luck on your project.

Well, challenge excepted! I'm cutting it all and gonna do it again lol. No, but that's a great idea. I had the metal lying around so that was actually a free mod. I'm working in the fuel tank and a frame to house it in the rear of the truck frame. Any ideas there?

Thank you sir! The seams are looking better than I had realized. I was terrified thinking I'd screwed up. That should be next week or so when I get it done and post that.

For the tank I went with a Mustang tank from Tanks Inc. Tank and electric pump for about $350-400. I went with one from their Bargain/Dent room and for the life of me I couldn't find a dent in it. Also a 16 gallon tank for a little bit more low profile.

Will that fit without moving the rear crossmember in the frame? Or, where did you mount it?

@@RIPbiker13 Although it might not be the best way to have done it, I did not want to remove the rear cross member either so you can see it at the 2:40 mark in my video. th-cam.com/video/HDf5-4wVOk8/w-d-xo.html

If you want a lower setting on your welder attach a 100 ft. HD extension cord...the line voltage drop will work in your favor and minimize blow throw on thin metal.

My concern would be the welder over heating from too muck resistance through the lower amperage wire. I had to rewatch the video to see where it blew through lol.

I removed the rear cross member and installed a 1970s mustang tank from CJ Pony Parts. fit perfect.

Are still using the stock leaf springs? My concern is that crossmember ties the perches together. I'd imagine with as many people as have done that we'd know if it was an issue, but I wanted to avoid that. I discovered that the 1969 fuel tank has a nearly flush top and may fit under that crossmember. I ordered one, so I hope I can figure out. Otherwise, I'll be moving the crossmember too.

@@RIPbiker13 How can i send you a picture? I removed only the rear cross member then mounted it at the rear of the chassis. Just relocated it.

After everything I've done to this truck, removing the fuel tank was what sticks out? Thanks for watching, I've molested the truck in a plethora of other ways too. Had I not saved it it would have been crushed.
