Welcome to the San Juan Islands. They are awesome! Those trees are madronas or madrones. Hard wood for sure. So enjoy! I'm down on Vashon Island which is just south west of Seattle. PNW rocks! Cheers!

As a dog whisper I want to tell you Jetty says thank you for the new collar and beautiful name tag. She would have barked louder at the man on the shore but she had to go to the bathroom to bad from holding it all night. LOL Sierra I love your new boots/shoes, they look nice, warm, waterproof, and comfy. Billy I am proud of you now that you are learning and getting browny points along the way by saying Sierra is a better boat driver, good move, especially if you messed up earlier. LOL. Sierra that was a funny comment about saying it is better or safer now knowing you have new engines. That was quite the challenge Billy took on rebuilding the one and I understand why you went home until he was finished. LOL Just picking. Love y’all three and your videos. Have fun. 👍🙏😎✌️

You guys are or Should I say were in one of the most beautiful places to sail, cruise or just be on the water in some form,, we have been out to the San Juan islands three times back in the early 2000’s visiting friends of ours that lived in New York and retired out on Orcas Island , we took many trips through the inside passage up to The port city of Nanaimo and across from there up into prince Louise sound to chatterbox Falls 🙌🙌🙌absolutely gorgeous boating!!! But being from the Fort Lauderdale area, the Bahamas also is our true tropical paradise 👌🥃🥃⛵️⚓️⚓️

That is one heck of a cheeseburger you made. Excellent choice for cooking asparagus. Beautiful scenery. I used to live along the shore of northern California and during November, the winter storm waves start rolling in. If you're in the Pacific northwest (California) during the first week of December, the fishing fleets cast off for Dungeness crab. The ocean is covered with lighted boats on the water. It's also fishing season for salmon.

A great privilege for me was to have "Ruffles", a well known male Orca, spy hop next to me when I was in a Sea Kayak. He was no more then 12 feet away from me. Sadly we have not seen Ruffles in a long while. But the diverse wildlife of the San Juans is extraordinary. It is so fun to watch you take it all in for the first time.

Lots of edible mushrooms out in those woods. Love madrona trees. The bark peels off during the summer. Great hardwood for wood stoves. I have lived near the Puget Sound and Hood Canal for 33 years and always missed visits from the orcas. Lots of bald eagles though.

You need to find a gravel beach to get oysters. Head south into Hood Canal (by car) and you will find lots of oyster beaches. The trees with the reddish peeling bark are Madrone trees. You will only find them near salt water. If you like the San Juans, your NEED to go up into BC. Desolation Sound and the inside passage are incredible. Also you should hop over to Port Townsend when you et off the boat.

Welcome to the PNW, it's been our secret for awhile. The rain stories keep most away but were always proud to show off this beautiful state. If you keep heading north through the inside passage it just gets mind blowing. Summers are usually very crowded at anchorages, but the fall and early spring are our favorite times to sail. Salmon, muscles & crab are abundant. So glad you are enjoying the area and hope to see you guys out there sometime.

Beautiful place! I love hearing that the climate is like New England but the islands are like the Bahamas. And there are whales. Inspiring. I watch about 15 sailing channels with folks going all over the world. My wife's from WA, I'm from the northeast, and we started our married life in Miami. But I think if we do a charter, I'll vote for the San Juan islands rather than the Keys or Bahamas.

There's no guarantee that you will but that seems to be the likeliest place to encounter them. You may want to check in with a commercial whale-watching business in Victoria, BC to see what channel they monitor when taking people out whale watching. The charter company that leased you the boat may have some info as well. Good luck!

It's so fun watching you guys get blown away by our west coast. This is where I grew up cruising and exploring. Those red trees with the peeling bark are called "Arbutus" trees and they're pretty synonymous over here. It's too bad you only had 6 days because you could spend a lifetime up and down the PNW. I'm on the Canadian side and as interesting as the San Juan's are the gulf islands are equally amazing. Montague Harbour is a great place with the "mushroom rocks" and the "Indian caves" and the fishing and prancing and shellfish are legendary.
OMG, you didn't bring bananas on a boat did you? Lol. My first trip out on the commercial fishboats is broke two of the superstitions you never do. I brought a black cd case full of cd's on board. Then one night I went to bed to find all my cd's strewn on my bed and the case was never seen again. Then we went grocery shopping and I grabbed a bunch of bananas but for some reason they never made it to the check out. Lmao.

You don't mention Vancouver Island, but if you get a chance to visit Victoria on Vancouver Island you should take it. It's a beautiful city and the rest of the Island is mostly rainforest. One of my favorite places in the world.

Hey Cuz, I spent three months on San Juan Island at the University of Washington Biological station. Dove nearly every day in a 1/4" wetsuit, 52 degree water; recomend a drysuit. Beautiful video of a stunning area. Look for orcas north of Orcas Island.

I live on my 40 ft aluminum landing craft in Ketchikan Alaska, just so ya know it rains 150 inches a year here so there must be a reason someone would put up with that, right. also plan on doing a lot more motoring in these waters, it's not open ocean sailing. Great video's thanks

Super interesting to hear those orange/red trees with papery bark called "madrone" trees. Up in in BC we call them Arbutus trees. Very specialized to grow within a few kilometres of the ocean. Seem to really need the salt air. Great videos.

Madrone trees... There is a few different names for them depending on ones arbor culture education. Most people just call them Madrone. Some bear red berries similar in size to holly trees but they're almost neon red.

Thanks for the tour guys! We recently moved to the PNW and may need to charter a San Juan Seawind as we explore our new region.
