Arjen Lucassen (the tall hippie dude) is Dutch, and is the mastermind behind Ayreon. It's a prog rock/metal opera project, 2025 marks 30 years for Ayreon. Arjen writes concept albums, with the story arc spanning multiple records. This is track 1 on the 2017 album, The Source, chronologically the 1st in the story arc. He makes the songs ,and gets guest musicians and singers to perform them. The 11 vocalists are: James LaBrie (Dream Theater) as The Historian Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder) as The Opposition Leader Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me) as The Chemist Simone Simons (Epica) as The Counselor Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind) as The Prophet Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia) as The Captain Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) as The Astronomer Mike Mills (Toehider) as TH-1 Russell Allen (Symphony X) as The President Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus) as The Diplomat Floor Jansen (Nightwish) as The Biologist. Joost is pretty much Arjen's right hand man, does a lot of work for the live shows, which have only been doing every other year (except lockdown). "Everybody Dies" live from the Ayreon Universe 2017 show is a good next step for Ayreon.
Hansi's band is Blind Guardian, for almost 40 years in the business. Best crowd reaction ever: Blind Guardian - The bard's song & Valhalla, live Wacken 2016. Also, Sabaton!
Arjen has been working with more than 120 top musicians and singers, during the years. Floor since year 2000 and her sister Irene a few years later. Arjen is a genuine musically genius, able to create stories that just continues for years and just gets better and better.
You definitely wanna see AYREON live, because their shows are legendary (and you'll see some familiar faces too..). So here goes: "Ayreon - Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe)". Enjoy! 🤘🎶
I visited a live Ayreon show in 2023. It was a life changing experience. I divide time in life before that concert, and life afterwards. 25 world class main singers on the stage. This year his next show!!!! The guy is one of the greatest modern time composers. The godfather of Prog. And a genuine very nice guy as well. No wonder the greatest artists ask him if he wants to include them in his next project. Amazing!!!!
The other female singer is Simone Simons (Dutch). She is the front singer of Epica, a Dutch symphonic metalband, a bit heavier than Nightwish. Simone and Floor are very good friends. Please check out "Sancta Terra"! And from a live concert of Ayreon "Valley of the Queens"
@@JusJrdn Oh oh, I forgot to check your playlists haha. I'll give you another band... Sabaton, a Swedish heavy metal band. Floor Jansen is married to their drummer Hannes van Dahl. Their songs are all about wars, battles and people who played a role in them. All songs are based on true stories (they do a lot of research for their songs). They have 2 YT channels. One for their songs and one called Sabaton History. Please check out "No Bullets Fly", the ANIMATED version!! Have a good weekend!
I'm so glad you did this and so close to your Nightwish reaction! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I really loved watching this one. I reccommend 'The eye of Ra' or 'Everybody dies' next. Live! And how did you like Mike Mills? A computer never sounded that great ever before and I'm so old I can remember getting my first modem in the first house I bought. I introduced my youngest son to Arjen Anthony Lucassen through this very piece, and he asked for the link. The next I knew, he'd bought the entire Ayreon project, and then he followed it up with everything else he could find by Arjen. That is Arjen on all the guitars and electronic keyboards. An undoubted musical genius, he has serious stage fright, hence his comment about performing it live. He's tall even for a Dutchman, at around 7ft. Being invited to perform in one of his projects is a real sign that any musician has made it to the very top, as he only works with the very best - which along with the quality of his work is largely why so many are keen to collaborate with him, even across labels. And don't be surprised if the great man himself drops in to say hello - he does that to reactions to his work.
Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen (that tall Hippie dude in this video). Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist. Each Ayreon album tells a different story, but all, with the exceptions of Actual Fantasy, The Theory of Everything, and Transitus, take place in the same fictional, science fiction universe; additionally, Lucassen's solo album Lost in the New Real is also set in the Ayreon universe. Ayreon's music is characterized by the use of traditional instruments in rock music mixed with instruments more native to folk and classical music. Lucassen writes the music and the lyrics, sings and plays most of the instruments on all of the Ayreon albums, alongside many guest musicians. His most regular collaborator is drummer Ed Warby. The binary code means "Trust TH-1" About this song: I also call it: "The song that exploded my music world"!!!! This was actually performed live late 2023 and posted on youtube in 2024. Several of the singers were different (Floor was heavily pregnant at the time so she wasn't there (but her sister Irene was).
Simone Simons is the singer of Epica, to whom you reacted yesterday with Floor as guest. The pianist Joost van den Broek played keyboards in Floor's first band After Forever. All singers on this song/album are the lead singers in their own bands as well. In september 2017 the Ayreon Universe - The best of Ayreon Live concert was given three nights in Tilburg (the Netherlands) with 16 singers including Floor and several others from the video you just watched, and others as well including Marko Hietala of Nightwish. I think the most watched song of this concert is Everybody Dies, which is from the same album as today's video. Enjoy diving into this new rabbit hole 😊
Arjen the Genius behind the Ayreon project is a big fan of scifi, musical theater, and concept record style compositions. The live shows are amazing. Bring lots of famous musicians together for an epic show.
You really go down the Bucket List of our MetalFavs of the Symph and prog Corner:) and i think you really like it! thats great for us all! STay healthy Dude!
Mike Mills! Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! OI! EYHO Queen! Hansi looks like my dentist but what a voice! from Blind Guardian! Ayreon is literally a giant! Makes Floor look almost "normal" height! Great reaction!
Welcome to one of the finest ringmaster productions in the sphere! Our guy Arjen is truly gifted in this role. Obviously. Really nice react, please continue, and enjoy the Ride! (it's Way Deeper than one may anticipate...) Cheers rl 🤘👹🤘
Arjen became a hermit and does not travel outside of Holland anymore, and started to invite vocalists to appear on his albums, which are/were mainly concept albums with many characters, which require many different voices. He was able to convince people to guest on his albums, and then worked his wizardry in the studio to bring everything together. He’s been doing it for a long time now and I think vocalists around the world are now just waiting to be contacted by him..... he is a master composer and musician, but yet so humble. The live shows, only in Holland, are exceptional. I’ve been fortunate enough to see them all, so far and will go again later this year to see the latest production.
And to complete the list: INSTRUMENTALISTS: Joost van den Broek (ex-After Forever) - grand piano and electric piano, Maaike Peterse (Kingfisher Sky) - cello, Ed Warby - (Gorefest) drums, Ben Mathot - violin, Jeroen Goossens (ex-Pater Moeskroen) - flute and wind instruments, Arjen Anthony Lucassen - electric and acoustic guitars, all other instruments
So yesterday, you saw Mark Jansen and Floor Jansen (not related). Today you had Floor and Joost van den Broek. You'll need just a couple more people to complete After Forever line up.
If you get to the live version of this the first singer is Tom from Evergrey they are also a great band from Sweden they have there own YT channel with lots of great music videos spanning many seasons of their career Tom has a very unique voice the band has very guitar driven music with Tom and Henrik brilliance
Ayreon is just a phenomenal collaboration of greatest singers and musicians of prog and synphonic metal. Agree to the others, you need to see them live which is a blast! It's worth to watch the full "Ayreon universe" concert basically from beginning to end, being an outstanding collection of Arjen's best works. You will enjoy this, believe me!
Floor was actually discovered by Arjen Lucassen (the mastermind behind the Ayreon project. So we have Arjen to thank for that AWESOME lead singer for Nightwish. Now a brief history lesson on Ayreon: Arjen initially was a guitarist with Vengeance (a hardrock group from the Netherlands). After he left Vengeance, he was going to collaborate with no one less than Bruce Dickinson (lead singer of Iron Maiden). But when Arjen put some bits and pieces out into the world, Bruce's management withdrew Bruce from the project (their loss!). This led to Ayreon to start as a solo project, and keyboardist Joost van den Broek got involved, who is now leading the live shows. Arjen also has stage fright, so he doesn't perform that much on stage. He does, however, appear in all live shows though. Especially since he has this stage fright, you can imagine that there aren't many live shows. But those that are in fact out there, are most definitely worth visiting (only in Tilburg, the Netherlands though). Arjen ONLY works with the best of the best of the best. If you think you can sing, you should definitely ask yourself 'how good am I really?' He even has a rolodex with artists he can call any time, and they're MORE THAN HAPPY to collaborate with Arjen. THAT's how big he is in the scene! If Arjen calls, you'd definitely WANT TO pick up the phone and say yes! Meanwhile, he also rekindled his friendship with Bruce Dickinson, leading to a re-release of previous work, now recorded again with Bruce. And a fun fact: Irene Janssen, Floor's sister, is one of the background singers (Ayreonettes)! He also has several other projects: - Guilt Machine - Ambeon - Star One - Plan 9 - Stream of Passion - The Gentle Storm (did I forget anything?)
Sorry the part about Floor is just not true, she was the singer for After Forever before making an appearance in Ayreon and they where already quite big in the Dutch club and festival scene. Also After Forever toured with Nightwish as a support act. Arjan is great but did not discover Floor. The background singers are typically called Ayreons Angels and not Ayreonnettes.
Jusjrdn, I noticed you have a Canadian flag in the background. A couple of great Canadian bands you should check out Unleash the Archers - Awakening full band play through video and Tonight We Ride music video Spiritbox - Circle With Me one take vocal performance
Ayreon is so dope. I mean, I already love prog rock. Because it's creative, out of the box. But a project like Ayreon is next level. With 11 singers who all have their own bands, you can understand the challenge that is for live performances. But they did perform live! 'Everybody Dies' live is an awesome one to check out imo.
About Ayreon and Arjen Lucassen (the genius behind Ayreon as you know) I suggest you to react to "Everybody dies" live ... it is another masterpiece by Ayreon with many lead singers as usual. Greetings from Italy
There lives concerts are cool too Arjen is the very tall hippy guy i think he's 6.6 tall he's also had other American fame in his songs Like Steve vai and Joe satriani guitarists, Dee Snider from twisted sister Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden U.K. lead singer from Halloween, Amongst other very talented artists. Floor's Sister Irene performs for him as well. Arjen's story telling and musicals are like plays for Metal heads. Ayreon is one project Star One is another.
Fun fact, Arjen actually got stage fright, so its only once every 2nd year or so you can go see a live show with Ayreon, , the tickets are gone in seconds, to get a ticket, you have to be fast and lucky, also to perform live shows with this many great artist on stage is imposible to tour with, as all got their own bands beside, and it is very expensive right, so yes seing a live Ayreon show is for the few, but its a amazing show.. Many of the artists work with Areon because its fun, and they respect him, not for the money..
I used to have an MP3 player back in the day that only had enough memory for about 20~ songs and I think I had Ayreon's album "Human Equation" playing on repeat there for probably like 6 months. It's sad that I can't even recommend any one song from that album since it's one of those "concept albums" masterpieces. But hey if you wanna give the full thing a listen, that would be dope (at least for yourself, not as a reaction).
Hi Man seeing your Canadian flag flying Im 100% sure you will get a kick out Ayreon Live with the song Fate of man featuring your own Britney Slays and owwwww lordy lordy how she slays on that one.
The list of people who worked with Arjen is long ... very long ... and he recorded Floor the first time when she was 15 .. and did you recordniced the red hair woman? you had just listen to epica, right? :)
Prefer this to the recent live version as some of these singers were not present. However generally live Ayreon is great as is Arjen's other project Star One.
How about a 46 million views German MetalCore song? (funny! :D) th-cam.com/video/75Mw8r5gW8E/w-d-xo.html Electric Callboy, Hypa Hypa? You will LOVE this and probably cry :D
Since you said you like Dream Theater and should maybe do some reactions to them, this is their newest track with the return of their original drummer Mike Portnoy "Night Terrors" th-cam.com/video/2IPT60hvGw4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4Fe0sDU1JUSMiZep
Yes, you did Ayreon so I’m here! Ayreon is not a band but a project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen! He writes the story and music and then goes looking for the best voices to complete it. You should now do a live version where almost everyone comes on stage! He mentioned Amazing Flight, please react to that one from the dvd Into The Electric Castle Live And Other Tales!
Now that you know two or three singers (Floor, Simone, James) you have plenty of time to see the other bands they sing in. Never expected to hear this song live in my life, but it happened at an Ayreon concert in 2023. Got another band for you though , consisting of 5 women who play heavy metal , if you want a power ballad here is Edge of the world , th-cam.com/video/Zr99B4RvaMc/w-d-xo.html for something really fast , Soldier stands Solitarily , th-cam.com/video/30yWisiRBuM/w-d-xo.html .Oh almost forgot the band is called Lovebites
Kanye West ?? Since when has he become a musician or singer like Arjen ? As far as I know he can't sing or play and just samples other people's performances.
I meant in regards to the production, to use a big group of talented musicians/artists on a track and to know how to use each one of them to TRULY showcase their individual talents and make them all make sense on one track

With 11 singers who all have their own bands, you can understand the challenge that is for live performances. But they did perform live! 'Everybody Dies' live is an awesome one to check out imo.
Toehider, the guy with the acappella section is Mike Mills. A mad scientist within music. He does every single known genre of music.
🤘💥
Thanks! That was great!
There are 11 singers but only 10 rabbit holes to follow since you already know one of them.
Now go watch the video of the live version of the same song!!!!
th-cam.com/video/Ei4QjMN1y5g/w-d-xo.html
If you watch closly, you can say that Tommy Karevik sings with his hands...
If you want to something special look at Aryeon - eye of ra live in Tilburg. The end is realy impresive. But the song Everybody dies is even better.
Hi Man
seeing your Canadian flag flying Im 100% sure you will get a kick out Ayreon Live with the song Fate of man featuring your own Britney Slays and owwwww lordy lordy how she slays on that one.
🤘🤘
The list of people who worked with Arjen is long ... very long ... and he recorded Floor the first time when she was 15 .. and did you recordniced the red hair woman? you had just listen to epica, right? :)
Prefer this to the recent live version as some of these singers were not present. However generally live Ayreon is great as is Arjen's other project Star One.
🤘😁🇫🇮💙🇳🇱🪄🎼✨💯👍
If you think this video is impressive as great as it is it's nothing compared to an Ayreon concert.
Please do karpe/omar sheriff song "ibuprofen" live at oslo sentrum
Live next ?
🤘❣️🤘
