Love the video! My goal is to become a Drill Sergeant. Currently E4 promotable on my second deployment. Already did my board, already in a slot for E5. Hopefully getting promoted to E5 once I hit home all I need is BLC so fingers crossed I’ll get it when I get back. National Guard is rough though 😭
@@Spiritfur I've seen only a few corporals but I've heard the Army recently made a change to where everyone is supposed to be promoted to E4.5 before making Sgt so idk I guess it could be different for every unit.
My pawpaw was a DS long time ago,and during basic, I looked up too the ds. I have 2 years left, and it's my goal to re enlist and go to the academy. I just need to work on my voice. I'm too quite.
I have been told I would be a terrifying DS(more terrifying then one of our most intense DS) by my battles while at basic, I plan on putting in to go to the Academy once i'm promotable
I don't know if he's still there, but SGM Michael Berry was my DS, at Ft. Sill, OK, in 99... I saw a commercial a couple years back and saw him talking about running DS school... He was NOOO joke in bootcamp, he was tabbed out, so it wasn't a surprise that he moved up rank quickly and ran the whole DS Academy...
Pacing back and forth on the lines on the pt field at the academy is how i memorized all those pitches, good luck if you’re going to blacksheep. Also learn some cadence before you go, they don’t teach you how to call cadence there.
Im an E5 wanting to progress in my career. I been looking into volunteering to become a DS but I can’t find information on what to do to volunteer. Any information will be grandly appreciated. Thank you
united states army drill sergeant school has an example on HRC with the PAR routing mailbox that you can use. For the class date, use A/O per the Academy G3. Might have to use some PDF skills to edit the boxes due to how they are, and you'd have to schedule some CDR and CSM time for their portions, but your leadership should be able to help in that regards..
Depends... my experience is that Recruiter does absolutely nothing to help us 11-series and actually hinders us. I spent nearly 11 years as a SSG, having been DA Select for Recruiter a couple of years after pinning. The annual MOI for the E-7 selection board usually called for Recruiters to be favorable looked upon, but the AAR each year showed that SQI "4" (Recruiter) had lower selection rates than having no SQI at all. SQI "X" (Drill Sergeant), on the other hand, was usually second only to "G" or "V" (Ranger) in terms of selection. I was a DS on Sand Hill, getting DA selected roughly 3.5 years after coming off of recruiting duty. There were a bunch of 30-something SSGs with over 10 years of service sporting Recruiter Badges on one pocket while wearing the DS Badge on the other. Nearly all of us were finally picked up for SFC after a year on the Trail. I can understand the mentality of the SGMs/CSMs sitting on the selection boards, all 11-series and 18-series thinking that Recruiters are lazy liars while Drill Sergeants are the epitome of the NCO Corps in terms of discipline and standards.
So what goes on now I was just offered the opportunity to become a DS I’m damn near bout to cry never thought I would be gifted the opportunity to become a DS this is awe inspiring to me to be I can transform myself to who Ik I can become and to train others to reach their potential
As you wait for orders and welcome letters, start studying the mods and drill and ceremony. If you have questions call the school house and the drill on duty can answer a bunch for you.
Is it true they condensed it from 10 weeks to 5 weeks because of the whole COVID protocols? I just got transferred into a drill sergeant unit and haven’t met anyone yet but was wondering if the school was still condensed. I’m hoping not because I know that’s a lot of information to cram in 5 weeks vs 10. Lol 😂

Honestly everything is 20x harder at the academy.
Maybe it’s just the pressure of being graded.

As an infantryman, being a Drill does nothing for our careers. If you’re a POG it might but for us its not really a good look
