    Everyone should want it to be sharp. If you think it's too sharp, then simply adjust the clarity slider in your raw editor. It's easy to remove detail but difficult to add it.

      Everyone wants/needs different things from their camera equipment. This lens simply isn’t for my specific style of photography, and I wouldn’t buy a lens that requires me to lower the clarity or use a pro mist filter every time I use it. That just shows me I would need a different lens where the photos are ready to go. But objectively I still think this is a stunning lens and the ultra sharpness will come in handy for a lot of photographers/videographers.

    • @ernieojeda
      @ernieojeda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a different style. How some people love vintage. Which aren’t sharp but soft and graining. If everyone loves tacked sharp photos there would be no uniqueness in photography

    • @jliang70
      @jliang70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think sharpness is the issue, I think there are many other factors involve in selecting a lens. I will be honest from this review I don't really like the skin tone reproduced by this lens, in recent months I have used Sigma DG DN 85mm F1.4, Voigtlander 58mm F1.4 and Nikon Nikkor 105 F2.5. Sigma 85mm is sharp and can produce nice, rich and true to life colour tones, but for a close up shot Sigma 85mm's sharpness can expose imperfect skins and it is revealing for imperfect skin as you can pixel peeping if you want to see the flaw to the level of skin pore. But I shot with Voitlander or Nikkor there is that natural soft rendering with that nice pop in colour and contrast , these lens will not win the sharpness contest with Sigma but they are sharp enough even for A7R4, even print on an 17 inch printer I don't think they put A7R4 at a disadvantage, zooming in to 200% I can certainly see the difference in resolution.

    • @jliang70

      the new GM is going to be priced higher than Tamron 35-150 F2-2.8, so given the Tamron 35-150mm is more versatile lens I would go for that. The other two are in different price bracket I probably go for Sigma because it does have image stabilization.

    • @paiman_
      @paiman_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Tamron 28-75mm would be my personal choice because of its size, weight, price and the sharpness is the 2nd best (the new GM II is the winner of course but for triple the price) all while having a great autofocus system.
      Also, if 28mm isn't wide enough for you, chances are that 24mm most likely won't be wide enough either. You're better off buying an ultra wide angle zoom lens or a prime super wide angle lens below 24mm (i.e 18mm F2 or something like that).

      I haven't used that Sigma lens yet unfortunately, but what I can say from experience using other Sigma lenses like the 35mm f1.4 DG DN, while the image quality is practically the same as the GM 35mm f1.4, the only place where you lose a bit of performance is on high speed subjects. The GM usually gets more photos in focus compared to the Sigma. Again, I haven't tested this particular 24-70 though!

    i would have a question. if you have a 35 and a 70 ( sony gm16-35 and 70-200 mark ii) do you really need a small 1.8 prime for street photography? i like shooting wide angle also portrait and also sport and moving subjeckt like cars motorcycle dogs cats birds. should i go for a daily setup of 16-35 gm and 70-200 m2 gm with 2x tele, or put a 3rd 50 1.8 in the mix, or use a 16-35 f4 pz a 24-70 2.8 gm m2 and 70-200 gm m2 with same 2x tele, dont know if im gonna be able to switch between 16:35 and 70-200 for example in a shop enviroment all the time in cities when travelling. and i like vlogging filming family and also would use it for real estate and everyday photos and all of family portraits at 35mm. its a big investement, so really hard to decide, which i would put my money on.

    • @OfficialDZmusic
      @OfficialDZmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it really depends on your style. If you want strong background separation for your portrait shots or something light for street then you could buy an affordable 1.8 prime eg. 85mm, 55mm or 35mm and for the zooms go with the F4 versions.They are way cheaper and lighter compared to their 2.8 GM counterpart but work very well for real estate, travel and landscape eg. F4 16-35, F4 24-105, F4 70-200. Of course the GM lenses have certain qualities that make them the best on the market but you have to pay premium price for that and you should really ask yourself if you will have a benefit from that or not. If you are a pro then maybe the extra 15% corner sharpness justifies the purchase but in many cases it might be better to spend that on travel or a workshop.

    The AF speed for video at the end is a setting in the menus. I can tell from the video that you don't have it at the fastest setting, and there are two. Sensitivity = how fast you want it to detect and adjust for autofocus; speed = how fast you want it to focus pull. It's all about what "look" you want for video as it doesn't really look natural when AF speed is too fast to react, and is pulling too fast.

      Knew this was coming but I believe the lens of the year from Sony will be the (Rumored) 85GM F1.2 or the 150-400F4 which may actually out dual the 100-400GM. I also seen the rumor that the R5 will be 102MP which is basically crushing SD cards if you are a Landscape Photographer/Street Photographer.

      Yeah there’s a time and place where ultra sharpness actually doesn’t really work out that well. Even on the shots of Dan and myself I feel like I can see more detail than I can see in real life. Also adds to retouching time!

      Technology changes, so they improve on things with specific lenses. With this lens the aperture ring, size, weight and sharpness are great improvements from the mk1! I for one would really love to see an update on the GM 85mm f1.4, that’s another one of the older GM lenses.

    One awesome lens. But what is actually much more amazing is that 35 years ago Minolta was already making A M A Z I N G and COMPACT 24-80mm AF Zooms with optical quality rivaling today's. Sony has Minolta's DNA allover and buying them, absorbing their technology and bringing along their technicians was one of Sony's best business decisions of all of its history. Sony's imaging department today would be nothing without Minolta. From AF, to Live view, Mirrorless, Its all thanks to Minolta.. they had it all then, just no idea how to sell it. Sony knows how to sell.
