Had a chance to meet her when I was a young man at my uncle's jazz club in NYC and hear her play live. A true prodigy and genius on the ivory and such a fun loving person.

@@eugeneweston3891 I’ve just stumbled across her videos and I have to say she’s is amazing. You can see how she plays that she has a huge personality and what a voice too, she’s the real deal. Truly a talent that should be remembered and cherished. The first time I saw her was on a show where she did a billy holiday impression, omg I was floored by this woman’s voice let alone her talent on the piano. 👍👍

Shame on me but I'd never heard of Dorothy. Her playing is absolutely brilliant : a virtuoso with a great sense of fun. I bet she had some stories to tell. I would have loved to go for a few drinks with her but unfortunately she died of cancer in 1998. She was also a protege of Art Tatum.
She has bouts that are disparate and chaotic yet coherent and musical.
It don't get much better kids.

@@divingchicago I was lucky enough to see her twice, she was every bit the musician O.P. was and would have matched him in technique. The problem with Dorothy as she was a woman in a male-dominated jazz world. So in order to make a living, she also resorted to clowning and became at times more entertainer than complete jazz pianist.
