You can set a baring with that watch, fyi.
In compass mode, just point the compass direction arrow in the direction you want to travel and press [Start Stop]. The symbol > < confirms that you are aiming towards the right direction or if you need to go left or right. What I don't under stand is how to set the declination value or how to set the reset the entire altitude log. I have only used it a few times on hike with altitude (I live in the mid west) so it has never been a big problem.

Wow thanks for letting me know that. The watch still has a lot of things like altitude log that I haven't used yet. Do you ever use the barometer alarm or even just the barometer?

I actually use the barometer more day to day than the altimeter because I live in a pretty flat area. If I was hiking with elevation, I would have the altimeter on and log my days progress. You can play it back at the end of the day and have up to 20 logs. Im still learning a lot about the watch. Im no expert but I really like the watch. I havn't tried it on auto mode yet, so i'm not sure how accurate it is, but I know the altimeter is pretty accurate because I tested it one day when I went flying. Im still trying to figure out all the weather functions and what it all means, but it does allow me to see high and low pressures, indicating stormy/rainy weather. I usually keep the storm alarm off day to day, or else it will randomly go off at work haha. Im pretty nerdy when it comes to recording and knowing my location, direction and logistics of my hike. I follow your videos and I am jealous you live in Colorado, I hope to get there one day. I also have noticed we use some of the same gear. I just love getting out there man.

Jacob, how do you log the altimeter when your hiking and how do you play it back to see? This watch it's probably one of my favorite pieces of gear that I own.
What's your favorite gear that you have? I'm a gear nerd too hahah.
If you ever come out to Colorado let me know and we can meet up for some backpacking, snowshoeing, climbing biking or something fun. I love living here there's always something adventures to do outdoors.
This weekend we are planning on a overnight at Navajo Lake in Telluride... Stay tuned on a video next week.

Maybe I will do a quick video on it tomorrow. I plan on doing some gear reviews. For example I just tested the sierra designs tensegrity 2, which has some major flaws I wanted to address before I return it.
To quickly answer your question, you use the start/stop function. Your watch has to be set to "log" when in the altitude mode. You get there by using the bottom left button to scroll through the different options. There is a bunch of settings such as how often do you want it to log (every second, 5 seconds, ten seconds etc...). There will be a little plus or minus to show you if you are higher or lower than your starting point (ex -348 ft). You play it back by going to your log book which is found in the menu. It sounds confusing, but once you play around with it, its not to bad.
Ill post something soon about the watch.
My favorite piece of gear, tough.
I really enjoy Patagonia gear. I have the patagonia capilene 4 hoody, which is awesome because I like sleeping and wearing hoodies. This offers that and is comfy to sleep in. It also works well with my Patagonia nano puff hoodie. I love my hammock, the watch is awesome, my outdoor research helium ii rain jacket has been great. I would have to lay it all out and nerd out.
I really would like to do this hike someday. Check it out.

      Wow that's actually pretty simple.
I'll be on the look out for your videos. You should try and throw in a few overnight trips, those are always my favorite. For some reason I have a hard time getting motivated to do gear videos.. Lol

Really like your video. I follow your channel pretty regularly Barkley is fun to watch. Speaking of watches, I’m trying to convince myself that I need a Suunto (you’ve just about convinced me).
