A lot of smart people have already noticed that this isn't about the 500$ dollar skin. Or even the 300$ one. No, this is all about selling as many of those 20$ battle passes and 50$ skins as possible, because the real money isn't in selling an outrageously expensive thing to a few hundred idiots, it's about selling the small package to hundreds of thousands.
What we see here is a classic tactic on anchoring, well known sales strategy. First you show your potential client a deal that is really bad, and then you show them the actual deal which you want to sell them, which makes it look way more reasonable compared to the outrageous one you've just witnessed. This is exactly why these are so expensive, they are there to make the 20$ pack look like a steal.
And things will only get worse as corporations see what they can get away with, with other companies than copying and also screwing over consumers more and more
Worst thing about paid battle passes is you pay for the opportunity to play more to unlock the rewards. It gives you the mentality “I just spent $20 on this I’ve gotta sink as much time as possible into the game to make it worth it!”.
I played smite a lot, a nice thing about it was I was able to get most battle passes without spending a dime just from login rewards and holiday bonuses. Even then I didn’t finish 1/2 of the battle passes cause they take too much time. Of course I’m not the target audience I’ve never spent a penny on free to play games 😝.
I would also say smite has cooler skins although I haven’t played league in like 10 years 🤪, but every unique smite skin has a new voice, new voice callouts, new animations, new jokes, etc. They also had a lot of collabs The Avatar, tnmt, transformers, some pokemon themed skins, etc.
This isn’t to say smite is better or anything, they’ve had skins locked behind huge paywalls too. Like 9000 gems or $100 usd…. Although I will say usually it’s you gotta get 10 skin bundles to get that final skin so you get like 20 skins and other things for that price 🤷♂️
I mean to be fair, i would personaly "defend" the 20 dollar option. Its in their usual range and if they released that without the other options, it would fit their normal way off doing the passes.
In league it seems to be a good value bundle. But thats rly the only one where i say its fine and fits their normal monetization.
But the whole campaign and the prices off the other stuff are rly bad

I think I spent $15-$20 on Elementalist Lux, arguably the best skin in the game. This one’s just a scam, it should be illegal to charge this much for a digital good.
I have really started to hate customization in games. Companies are using it to steal money off stupid people,who will almost always support this bullshit. Riot should have been called out when they made skins cost 50 dollars. Games like Destiny 2 and LoL show that game publishers and companies will abuse the whole “it’s just cosmetic guys!” And just keep on raising the prices so people can get used to this bullshit being normalized all over the place. I used to be neutral towards customization but have really despised it because of these parasites. CALL THEM OUT ON THIS BULLSHIT ALREADY FFS!
They also have monetary incentive to screw the non buying players by making default or non-paid accessible skins ugly as fuck, so that you either look like shit and save money, or are "forced" to spend. Which just helps to reel in the idiots.

Something I just realized for when it was talking about revenue split, the wording was "2024 inductee along with LoL export TEAMS" not one singular team but multiple. So that 30% split becomes way smaller cause it is more than just Fakr and his team but others as well.
It's not about whats in the bundle. It's about status that you have it. Same goes for clothes with trademark or tableware

It'll always be very profitable to cater to the 0.01% who have big money and don't give a fuck, it may not sound intuitive but it's true, 99% of players already spend so little they barely matter compared to the 1% that spend a sizeable amount, and the 1% of that 1% dwarves the rest of them in what they're willing and able to spend in the same way.
As long as you're getting the easy 20 dollar battle pass sales from whoever is willing to buy them, the next step is to milk the oil barons, that's just how it is.
wouldn't it actually be more profitable to just realease a resonably priced skin to the multi-millions of players you have, instead of panering to the, say, 100k whales? They could've made it a mythic skin for 30 dollars (the 30 one isn't an actual legendary skin, it's just an epic skin worth a legendary skin), and people would've gobbled it up... but i suppose all the redditors who'll be "boycotting" will relent a few days later, just like when they were "boycotting" reddit and lasted about 2 days lmao, so riot will have their cake and eat it too in the end, they'll get the wales and the poorfgs
$520 is 2 months salary here in my counttry.
The game Rust has the best skin system out there by a long shot. New skins come out every thursday ONCE ONLY, if you miss it it's gone forever (some exceptions). No loot boxes (they exist but no one uses them they suck). If you stop playing you can sell the items on the community market like CSGO.
I stopped playing recently and sold my set of neon box skins (13 skins IIRC), one of them had skyrocketed in price ... bought it for 5$ sold for 48$.
Made 287$ from selling that one set, then bought 3 games 🤷♂️

By the way, we're also still selling skins for Smite 1 after this announcement."

Okay, I could see $40 for a skin bundle if you got the battle pass, half your levels up front, the base champion and the mid tier epic skin (cause that Faker shit is just cheesy as hell). Speaking of DoTA. Alana, you played 3games per days on avg to grind out the BP. You know what me and guys in my guild did? We abused the matchmaking system. We grouped up as 10 made 2 party of 5each and searched match in a dead region server and queued up against each other. Then we just did our quests in like 15min. 1-2hrs per week of grind. This still works btw 😂.

You know I've been thinking about how $500 is too much and there's no way they could ever justify the price but I did actually think a little harder and have changed my mind. If the purchase came with some quality physical merch, I would accept the prince. You know like a statue figure of the Ahri Skin and an artbook, or like a cosplay outfit. Do what FromSoft does with their Collector's Edition and people would actually be happy and not feel like they're being scammed. But then again FromSoft's Collector's Editions are half the price. Hell even Malenia's Hand is less than this bundle.
League won't let people trade skins because then you can avoid fake bans that force you to buy them all over again.

The fact it's never coming back is also just hugely unfair to future players that might pick up the game. There's been nothing more discouraging to me about this game is the fact I missed Riven's Prestige Skin and her original Championship skin. Like I was like 10 or 11 when this game first came out, I didn't have the money nor the irresponsible parents to buy me the Championship skin nor was I even playing the game when it came out and now I suffer forever never having a fully complete set of Riven's skins.
prestige skins rotate in the mythic shop btw, riot used to release the rotations for the year, not sure if they still do
