I think I’ve watched it more times than any other movie. A genuine masterpiece of camerawork, dialogue, storytelling, style, and acting. Especially Pacino’s acting. Of the 3 greats in the movie, I think his dialogue delivery was the most effortless and natural.
Yeah that’s exactly what the film is about at it’s core. The story of the life of frank Sheeran is used as a metaphor for the death of the gangster film as a whole
Fitting to have one of the all-time greats of the genre to create it as well. Scrosese, Leone, and Coppola all have some of the top films but no one has quite done it justice through his career like Marty. He's covered almost every angle and left a massive impact
The way they portrayed the violence was done so well. They show so may deaths in so many ways you start to think someone will get killed in almost every scene, making what could seem like just a regular scene into an intense one. Also the eerie shots like the overhead one of the cars making that turn before Hoffas death and many others really lead into that constant danger. Although that stomping out scene was unintentionally hilarious
I am shocked that Scorcese even kept it. My guess is maybe they had a lack of glass, time, or something?! It’s an important scene but it is probably the worst scene ever shot by Scorcese.
Even in these couple of minutes you've told us so much, and there is so much love within in these episodes.... Every time I watch them I find myself loving cinema even more which I didn't know was possible.
I really love Scorsese's cinema. It is wonderful. He has done so much for cinema with that love. As a fan I say that if he is not the best, he is one of the best filmmakers ever.
De Niro and Harrison Ford still getting lead roles at 80 just emphasizes how few new movie stars Hollywood has managed to produce these previous two decades
Using god awful cgi over hiring younger actors to play the characters doesn’t help this fact. Imagine Godfather 2 where they de-age Brando over hiring De Niro 🫣
@@Zezezeze69 they did actually try to replace Harrison Ford with Shia Lebouf, someone which they did try but fail to make into a new hollywood star mostly due to his own shortcomings
I think there's actually been a fair few to have come along, we're a society who's just positively addicted to nostalgia (mind you I say that as someone who was more or less pleased with dial of destiny)
The film was far from perfect, and god only knows why it couldn't have been edited into a 7-episode affair, but I have to admit I still can and have watched it over, and over, and over, and over again. Scorsese is just magic and everyone involved in this film worked bloody hard. All the performances, camerawork, colours, and sets are just marvellous.
I throughly enjoy your channel, great work. Man, I loved joe in this movie, what a amazing actor.. Also, that de-aging was great, didn't bother at all.
Thinking about how we are about to see the things crescendoing towards an end with Marty's work had me all emotional, we don't have a successor to him in any shape or form or spirit. He encouraged ao many filmmakers to just act and do what they want to gave confidence to tell stories. We ahould be indebted to his body of work, just the sheer number of films he makes because he loves to make films.
We are lacking in directors of this calibre and style. I have nothing against the younger directors - just they aren’t going to be like the older generation we are slowly losing.
I love the film. Fantastic cast. Fantastic script. The music, the cars... of course with Marty at the helm you knew you were going to see some movie magic. It really takes you back into that era.
I absolutely adore this film. I think it is a melancholy masterpiece on the passage of time, life altering decisions, and soul destroying betrayal and regret. Yes it is about the mafia and real life, world changing events that the mob took part in. But at its heart it is about Time. My favorite subject. My lone complaint about the film is that they did not get a stand in for De Niro for kicking the guy scene. It’s an embarrassing eye sore on an otherwise gorgeous painting. Have no idea why Martin S. kept it in the film. The guy labors over every minuscule detail of his films. So this will always remain a mystery to me. But alas, the fact that this film didn’t win a single Oscar is an utter disgrace.
The de-aging effects never bothered me (I thought they were great, actually), but I always wondered why DeNiro's eyes had to be CGI'd green. Couldn't he have just worn contact lenses? They literally glow in some scenes. It's the only thing that bothered me (except for the kicking scene).
Everyone always complains about how de Niro was too old to play frank in his younger years, but just look past a bit of the clunkiness there and this movie is amazing. There was always a trade off between bad continuity with a different actor and having to deal with some old de Niro. I know I’d rather the latter.
@@m00ncat89These videos are clips taken from much longer video essays focused on directors entire careers, its one mispronounced word from a 2 and a half hour video essay, who cares.
was it a good movie? Absolutely. was it as good as a I would expect Scorseses final film to be? and highest budget film and longest film and most star-studded cast film? im gonna say no.
They were all too old and it showed I’m afraid to say. There is an Irishman in it, De Niro is half Irish and brought up by his Irish mother. He was called Bobby Milk as a kid because of his pale skin
I can't, for the life of me, figure out why this movie is loved. Those of us around long enough to watch all the gangster stuff from Godfather forward, speaking for myself, thought this was just a longer and less interesting rehash of things all three of them had done better in the past. Oscars? get real.
Robert De Niro was horrible casting. He was WAY too old for the role. I couldn't take him seriously. It became even more obvious when he beat up the store owner and could barely lift his foot to stomp on the guy.
My question is, can't they just fix that infamous store scene and move the updated version over to Netflix/home media?? They really should do something about it!
@@Ed.strell I thought it was a huge bore. Deniro is so past his prime. It's sad. Pesci was good. Pacino was totally miscast. The FX was pretty bad considering the budget. I love Scorsese and I know ppl who worked on the film. I really wanted to like it but I thought it was a snoozefest
@@sommasculpture I get what you’re saying and I agree that the effects are not always convincing despite the fact that they’re technically impressive. the long run time of the film is really meaningful to the themes of the film there’s some fantastic video essays about it and I recently read a dissertation someone wrote on the film that is super interesting. I personally think the films themes go a lot deeper than most people think.

I’m glad there’s people that agree this is a masterpiece
If only it had any basis in reality
Yeah I've watched it half a dozen times since it released. It's got that Scorsese X-factor that always draws me back to it.
Iv watched it a good 20 time and 3 times in one week after i first saw it. Bloody brilliant film.

Martin Scorsese is a blessing to the world of movies and motion pictures
That scene where De Niro kicks the guy is painful to watch, I can't believe that was the best take.
Deaged face with old mans physique yo

That's hilarious , not only was that exactly what I was gonna say but also the first comment on this list .
Totally agree friend, but imho this movie is too good to be ruined by a single scene, but it's still awful.
Was thinking about this again the other day. Still can’t believe it made the Final Cut.
This movie is so ridiculously rewatchable for a 3h30 movie
you can see his daughter Francesca a few times in this footage, absolutely adorable and even already directing some acclaimed short films herself

Pacino is brilliant in this movie. I love his 'I'm going to prison!' rant.
He was too old and feeble to play Hoffa. I remember hoffa, a vigorous bulky guy ,Pacino did not resemble him in any way
Slight correction De Niro is half Irish so there’s a half an Irishman in it
That should have been the name of the movie

And yet he hasn't won an Oscar.....disgusting when you think about the movies this man has directed
He won Best Director for The Departed.
This is hands down the greatest film of all time

Amazing clip. Is the Bible being immersed in water a scene out of Last Temptation?
idk ab the other 2 but I've always said Lillo Brancato can ALWAYS play a younger De Niro
loved this movie
A part of me wishes that Joe played Tony Pro instead of Russell but I understand he wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
The 32nd US president is FDR not Teddy Roosevelt lol

Damn good movie!
Never really cared for Anna Paquin, but she's cute as hell as a 70s chick in this.
THE MASTER
thats a good movie. not a scorsess though
the elderly movements of the actors are so cringe. I wish they'd just cast younger guys, like in every other movie for a hundred years!
Robert De Niro was horrible casting. He was WAY too old for the role. I couldn't take him seriously. It became even more obvious when he beat up the store owner and could barely lift his foot to stomp on the guy.
It's Bio Pic, short for biographical picture. Not biopic like myopic or microscopic. Film buffs mispronounce this all the time🤦🏻♂️
Great work
Pacino stole the movie
These are cool but it's pronounced Bio-Pic - not "by-aw-pic."
My question is, can't they just fix that infamous store scene and move the updated version over to Netflix/home media??
They really should do something about it!
alot of people dont even know about The Irishman movie. its a monumentally good film, like all Scorsess films
De Niro is half Irish so that's a lie about how theres no Irish actors in the film i think Steven Graham is also Irish
Stephen Graham isn’t Irish-at least, it’s never been mentioned anywhere. And as for De Niro, it was his father who was half Irish, not Robert himself.
I really tried to like it, it was ok🤷🏻♂️
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president, FDR was 32nd. Great video otherwise !!
Great movie, but Al Pacino roaring, shouting and overacting annoyed me. Not even close to portraying Jimmy Hoffa
They played him up to make him appear like a bigger loudmouth and threat to the mob.
Unfortunately that very performance has been THE Pacino character for most of his career. He loves to overact, lmao.
Martin and Robert De Niro? Are they married?
Grey got cancer and died. Didnt lose his seat! Lol
Deniros half Irish
Not very accurate 🤫
Misguided film.
Entirely unnecessary to use a superannuated cast. Also, about a hour too long.
You forgot......it completely sucked.
