Beautiful Bike. My best friend and I grew up well into our 30's riding dirtbikes everyday. During the "500" years this would be us in the pits, we spent most our time making and hitting jumps.. Then one day at "The Dump", there was this older guy in his 50's riding a CR500 on the track.. Just Rippin' like he was on a 250! Wildest memory I have of that pit, absolutely fearless! It was the only time in our lives we ever watched somebody actually "Rippin'" a 500 like it was meant too!
I bought my 85 for $600 in 91. Hated that tiny kickstarter! But the bike was a beast. Hearing the bike in the video almost brings tears to my eyes, thinking back when my friends and i were in are early 20s, going riding all weekend. Before you know it, youre 55 years old. Dont wait to do things in life. It'll be gone before you know it.
I had a CR80 when I was a kid & one day at the track a bloke turned up with a CR500. I had a go sat on the back & it was absolutely terrifying but brilliant at the same time.
That guy knows how to start a 500. I still have my 85,86 and 88 along with a couple of 480’s. My 85 still scares the shit out of me. Short rod and quick revs with the front wheel in the air all day long. She sounds crisp and don’t sell it because you will regret it.
1975 Honda Elsinore CR125M was my first motocross motorcycle. Same exact sound, and the torque and speed of the bike was unbelievable. Gotta hand it to the Japanese. They built quality motorcycles and engines.
And a Bell Moto III! Your bike is jetted right, super crisp. The 85 CR500 was more violent than the 91 CR500 I had. My 91 was incredible, I never should’ve sold it. I missed it so much I decided to get another but found a mint 99 KX500 and honestly, it’s faster than the CR’s to me. The KX just doesn’t seem to turn as well. I’d love to add a CR500 to my stable.

@TopRevs I watched a few of his races at Hawkstone Park back in the late 80's Thorpe & Gekoers dominated the 500's back then, you can't beat the sound of a CR500 on song

When I considered buying a 500R my buddy said to me, DO IT even if you just let sit its cool to look at! He wasnt kidding, I bought it and ride it 3 months a year and look at 9! And Fires up second kick with 9 month old gas. ( leaded Av. Gas us the best)
Old school 2 stroke muscle! Better know how to handle 500 cc of pure Honda CR power! That was one wicked ass bike! Had a 540 Husqvarna which was extremely bad ass! But wasn't nothing to a CR 500. Not to mention Husqvarna was all opposite controls. Left hand throttle, brake, clutch etc...
