You have my respect for restoring a 1.1 Golf. Everyone goes mad for GTI's when in truth these were the cars I used to see everyday when I first passed my driving test. Superb restoration mate.

WOW! as a mk1 owner this made me smile from ear to ear. from old to new like it was never old in the first place. Amazing job!
Awesome build. My stepmother had a 1.1 that she bought new. Sadly she didn't want to sell it to me. Man it would have been the perfect project car. No rust no accidents, only white paint faded and maybe new piston rings. Currently have a VW Pickup, these cars are something special and they becoming very sought after the older they get. Great video enjoy the Golf and God bless 🙏

Beautiful job! Thanks for saving that little gem. My daily driver is an '81 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel Pickup (aka: Caddy). My very first Rabbit (Golf) was a 1975 two door model.

This car "this model" was definitely a must in the 80s, I was driving this model at the age of 18 but with a Td engine. The car was not mine, and I would have been very pleased to have it, but at the age of 19 my father gave me the new Fiat Uno TurboD ("for me" the most beautiful car ever). And I was the happiest boy in the world.
Quest'auto "questo modello" è stata sicuramente un must negli anni 80, io a 18 anni guidavo proprio questo modello ma con motore Td. L'auto non era mia, e mi avrebbe fatto molto piacere averla, ma mio Padre a 19anni mi regalò la Fiat Uno TurboD nuova ("per me" la macchina più bella in assoluto). Ed io ero il ragazzo più felice del mondo.
And old fully restored car, no matter what make or model... is cooler than any supercar to me. Amazing work work! It must be a real joy and satisfaction to drive around in a car you practically built yourself?

Было у меня два первых гольфа и одна первая джетта.Машина крепко и добротно скроена и собрана.Днище не гниет ни когда.Основные проблемы- гниют передние крылья если без защиты,гниют передние поддомкратники в порогах,задние арки и крышка багажника.Если перегружали и убивали то отваливается крепление задней балка как в ваз 2108 .А так машина неприхотливая.Небыло родных фар,чудесно стали фары от запорожца-стал немножко лупатенький)))).
Was my third car, built in 1975 and for 10 years a 'part of my life'. A great car, always reliable, but the biggest enemy was the rust. It's like a time jump back to my youth.
The 78 Rabbit I had years ago was probably the most reliable car I ever owned. I'd buy another in a second if I could find one at a reasonable price.
Die Legende sagt, wer einmal einen Schluck Wasser von diesem Brunnen trinkt, kommt immer wieder nach Sarajewo. Wer einmal einen Golf 2 gefahren ist, ihm vergeht niemals das Lächeln aus dem Gesicht. Es klingt wie eine Werbung, aber in Sarajewo ist es tatsächlich so. Der Golf 2 hat hier einen besonderen Status. Wie könnte es auch anders sein, denn der Golf wurde im TAS Werk in Sarajewo produtiert, in der Autofabrik, die ihr erstes Auto im Jahr 1972 hergestellt hat. Dies war der beliebte Käfer. Nur 4 Jahre später, trat der Golf in Szene.Bei der Golf Produktion dürfte nichts dem Zufall überlassen werden, einschließlich der Auswahl der Mitarbeiter. Zum Beispiel musste der Kontroll-Leiter immer ein Deutscher sein. Ein hergestellter Golf im TAS-Werk unterscheidete sich in keiner Komponente von einem in Deutschland gefertigten Golf. Bis 1992 wurde der Sarajewo Golf produziert, und zwar ausschließlich für die Länder des ehemaligen Jugoslawien.Ende der 80er und Anfang der 90er Jahre gelten als goldene Zeit für die Automobilindustrie in Sarajewo. Huge respect for this build. The amount of determination to see it through to such a high level is stunning. This is not really a special model of car-its not a '53 Beetle or even a MK1GTI, but a run of the mill Golf (Rabbit here in the USA), yet it was treated like one for this restoration-as it should be. I have long been an air cooled fan, and still have several including a couple of very nice Beetles. I am in the middle of a "minor" restoration of a 1982 Quantum Coupe-perhaps the rarest of any VW model ever sold in the USA, and I can tell you that it is far harder than any other car I have done, due to the absolute lack of trim parts available for these unloved cars.
Nice restoration! The license plate under the front bumper isn't straight. It' leaning down on the drivers side. An easy fix!

When I saw this , my heart sank . What in the world makes a Golf worth saving ? Can believe a MG Metro or a Lotus Sunbeam but honestly ! a golf ! I remember mine which pulled the clutch cable straight out of the bulkhead and the noise of the engine ! I swapped it and got a MG Metro instead .

I had an 83 volks rabbit. I'm guessing those new door handles broke within a month haha. Great restore. So many memmories. I had smoke screen out the back, @ oil slick out the bottom

Congratulations! My first car was like this one and it was red with its original paint. Although it was about 14 years old, very basic, and in bad shape when I owned it, it was a car to remember forever. Many of the parts shown in your video had to be replaced in my car back then in the early 1990's! Great video and impressive job!!!!
The Golf has been very well restored, despite the few options. But the only thing that bothered me was reinstalling the old, rotten seats. They had to be professionally prepared and renewed by the saddler.
i had a red volks rabbit just like this in high school, at 70 mph it sounded like a mad sewing machine, lasted me all the way through college. red and black plaid seats, now my son in high school drives a 2008 black manual volks rabbit. Nice restoration project you have going on i assume germany.

Wow amazing work! This video brought back great memories, I had a MK1 83’ Rabbit 🐇 GTI in silver and loved that car. Now I have a MK 7.5 GTI in white, manual transmission and reliving the past. I love my new GTI, which brings the best of the original model with new VW innovation. Wish my current GTI had silver paint, but that color was not available.
I hear ya... Growing up my Grandfather owned a 78 Golf, 79 VW camper van and has a 60 bug convertible that's still in the family. I also have had a couple of GTI's a MK6 and currently a MK7.5. Very underrated cars and that's one reason why I love them so much👍😎😊

REALLY like that color! I used to want one of those in the 80's, but my dad wouldn't get me one and I was too young to buy it myself. Wanted an early Rabbit also, but never got one of those either.
Now I have a recent model GTI! Love Volkswagens... just about any model.

I've never done anything like this before and I feel like I'm in way over my head. I wish I had your skills and patience.
