    My mum moved to Portugal in the 1980s, in the Algarve. Trying to get a fiscal number to authorise the house purchase, we found that if we went to the office in the afternoon, the mood was lighter than in the morning, which we assumed was due to liquid lunches.

      Studies of sentences handed down by judges in the American judicial system have been shown to be affected by the time of day as well.

    I did not know that I’d have any problem coming to Portugal with only a one way plane ticket, the polícia stopped me and made me provide proof of income as well as buy a return ticket. Just to warn anyone coming from US. It wasn’t fun, missed my flight from Madeira to the Azores and had to stay overnight at the airport.

      May i ask why and who stopped you? I just recently bought a one way ticket to Lisbon to visit a friend and only because I am unsure of my return date and was going to book it once I knew, this is concerning!

    Btw podia pedir a senha (for queuing) online no eportugal portal, também há instruções para fazer as marcações online, por exemplo, para registrar a nova morada, pedir novas senhas (password) etc. É muito útil. And Liz is so right about killing them in kindness, I had to spend a whole afternoon at the Loja doing all sorts because I just moved and ppl who got aggressive and didn't attempt to speak Portuguese just got the workers really mad and got nothing done.

    Is 'podia' interchangeable with 'poderia', then?

    • @MC-uf6xx
      @MC-uf6xx 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes it can, is the same

    • @ifonlyiwassaner
      @ifonlyiwassaner 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Grammatically, yes 👍
      Conversationally, no 👎 just go with 'podia' please, it's easier/faster to say and avoids the 'r' that is usually troublesome

    Good video and information let me just add something you might already know, but wasn't expressed in the video: "obrigadA" is used when you're a "female" , whilst "obrigadO" should be used by "males", the word has a gender difference. Not a biggie, but it does make a difference in the mindset of the Portuguese person on the other side of the conversation.

      Absolutely, I do mention this in other videos! :)

    Portugal is so complicated and over bureaucratic they ask for everything and yet still make huge mistakes with the data.

    Portugal sucks. No no no....the weather is still beautiful (in summer) and the ocean is still amazing. However, Portugal sucks because of the f$kin burocracy! There are actually a lot of other reasons. One of the most significant is that some PT businesses don't respect foreign customers and don't want foreigners to pay them money (which is ridiculous) - "sorry we do not accept international cards - MBway only or cache.... or fuk off" - whaaat??? What is MBway?? No one in the WORLD knows what a heck is that. Old infrastructure (or even dilapidated in the most places), drugs, homeless, real estate bubble, weak business environment, one of the most high tixes in the world, real estate prices.....many many factors making Portugal undesired.
