I love these guides, even as an experienced player. It's all sensible advice; not things like "if you're not insane all the time, and haven't found the Ruins by day 3, you're playing the game wrong."
Though this is one of the things I love about playing DST, not the strong opinions necessarily but how many ways there are to play the game and be successful
This is quite possibly one of the best guides ( series of guides ) for DST. It's mellow, to the point, isn't dramatic or flashy and has a great sense of pace and progression unlike other guides which just show you crafts you can do one after the other without context. Well done.
this is our first time my group has made it through first winter and we wanted to start prepping for summer! This video has helped us get more confident about trying the summer cave tactic! Thanks!

Great guide! I really like your approach of choosing the information that you find immediately practical for survival strategy. Can't wait to hear about the ruins!
You can only get beard hair and monster meat drops if the bunny you befriend is the one that gets the killing blow or it dies while your insane, you can still get the regular drops.
The caves are like a high risk high reward and An offer at the same time High risk high reward can mean the ruins And an offer is exchanging little bit of sanity for a boost of resources such as grass and twigs or lightbulbs From my experience there's a some sort of set piece where the grass and twigs are clumped together giving you a boost in resources When playing with my friends I got a lantern on day 1 while my friends are still gathering resources to make a torch
i've only been playing for almost a month as wendy (she's super beginner friendly thats why i love her) but lately i'm getting bored on maining her and i took interest for willow. i realized that most of willow's materials for her abilities forces u to dive in the caves. i hate caves sm cause it lowkey scares me 😭 and i rlly wanna go out of my bubble for dst since i pretty much know everything on the surface now. thank u for the cave guide !!
Nice thing to know about bunny men a clever disguise from wurt can let Webber or wartox players hang out and even befriend them just don't take it off or hold meat in your inventory
I’m wondering though, what are the valuable resources a beginner play could acquire from these caves? I know you can make a miners helmet and a lamp from bulbs but other than that there doesn’t seem (at least to me but I’m probably wrong) much use to going in them
I have a problem with creating a world with caves. When i choose that i want caves and click generate world it will say "Server is generating world" for very long time. Is there a way to fix it?
a varg is not a warning boss, a varg happens as a chance to encounter it while hunting for koalafants. they're pretty tough so i'd reccommend befriending pigs to help fight as it spawns hounds as well. same for the ewecus, it also is a chance encounter for the koalafant, though it has the ability to trap you. friendly pigs will help you fight and untrap you. not quite sure what you mean by werebunnies. i think you are talking about when bunnymen are completely black with red eyes? if so, that happens due to low sanity. they can still be befriended though they cause sanity drain. they can be killed for a way to get beard hair for meat effigies
The snurtles/slurtles come out of the mounds to gather the rocks and stuff. Each time one comes out, there is a 10% chance that it will be a snurtle and 90% chance it will be a slurtle. The mound doesn't despawn but if you destroy it, it won't come back.
Great guide! This was the first video when searching for a DS cave guide. I'm hoping most of this is applicable to single player! I mostly stick to SW and Hamlet, but I'm about to head into the caves for the first time.

Here's a tip for people who play on cave only servers look for a touch stone you can hammer the pig heads for pig skin DON'T MAKE ANYTHING WITH THE SKIN YET make pig houses when you do don't kill them yet feed them monster meat for a were pig so it's a guaranteed drop for pigskin and meat (note Ive never seen a touch stone in the caves so I don't know if they have pig heads) Edit:I've seen a touch stone in the caves and yes it has pig heads
Alright boys I’m about 215+ days in the OG Don’t Starve and surprisingly I haven’t explored one sinkhole yet well because I’m kinda scared of dying it’s so easy to die down there lol. I already found a miners hat, all I really want from down there is lightbulbs so I can make a lantern or 2 idk if it’s even worth going down there at this point but I’m getting kind of bored so I think I might just send it. I have like 4 forms of revival so I should be good even if I do die I’ve just been paranoid to lose my save.
I’m trying to get into the caves for the first time. It’s my first time making it to summer and I’m trying to make a base down here. I’m having transporting rocks to make things into the caves. Everything on top is dying :(
I don't think you need a miner hat to get in if you have access to an alchemy engine close by as the lantern is arguably superior due to being able to be dropped and let you wear a football helmet, because lets be honest who isn't wearing a backpack most of the time?
Yeah I kinda agree. Also easier to gather light bulbs instead of fireflies for crafting. Having said that, I tend to prefer log suit and miner hat to lantern on floor and helmet. I like having the light on me. Gives a bit more flexibility when fighting.
