  • Fred Taylor was far too often overlooked throughout his 13-year NFL career, and it's a shame it has continued past his retirement. He was one of the best backs of his generation, and he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Yup. He truly was the only reason I checked the jags out. From Alaska, and back then, you needed satellite to get alot of the east coast games, but fred always showed up on top 10 quietly, and I hella respected that. Humble. He deserves HOF he is a beast bro

Awesome video... Fred Taylor is the back you get if you take all the best parts of all those great backs of the late 90's early 00's. Size, strength, agility, speed, catching ability...

Fun Fact: Fred Taylor missed 55 career games in the regular season, yet he retired as the 15th all time leader in rushing yards. Taylor basically gave everyone a head start by 3 full seasons. The season where he only played 2 games, his injury happened in the prime of his career in 2001, which was his 4th year in the league. He also had a career high 234 yards rushing in 2000 against the Steelers. He was sidelined due to leg cramps most of the 4th quarter when he needed just 39 more rushing yards to have the most rushing yards in a single game. At the time the most yards in a game was Walter Peyton 272 yards.

He happened to play during the peak of RB production so he got overshadowed. If he played today he would be a superstar

One stat you should check out is "rushes over 50 yards" and see where Taylor ranks on that, and the company he's keeping.

100% correct. He never got the publicity hype in Jax, and wasn't winning super bowls on great teams, so he was overlooked. He had cornerback speed, and was faster than any back from his era. He was muscular, but not overbulked Bettis like. He had thigh power, shifty feet, and speed to outrun everyone but the best corners. 80 runs always seemed like he makes one miss, runs through another, and then it was a footrace between the opposing lighter fast 4 db's and Fred in a race to the end zone, which Fred usually won, even after just running over and through the defensive line and linebackers.. He is the prototype of the perfect back. I've seen few better. A lot of players say it, but it really is an injustice for Fred Taylor not to be in the HOF.

Agreed! He's a beastly runner. I also liked those takes re Peyton (greatest) & Rivers (bad timing, lol).
