How do you make things louder with a compressor without clipping ? I'm having problems with the whole song being to low in volume but when I turn the main volume up it clips
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy what is gain staging? I must have looked at most videos to help achieve a decent mix but still not there , can't understand why I have to put a compressor on every track .

Sorry I'm coming in four years late on this video, but if you're still monitoring comments, I'll throw this in. I get the concept of using EQ to de-mudify the mix, but I couldn't really understand the part from about 6:03 to 6:23, where you are turning that little orange symbol on and off. I could hear only a tiny, tiny difference in the sound (maybe that's cause I'm hearing it through little computer speakers instead of real monitors). What does this orange bypass thing do? Some explanation would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
The orange symbol is what bypasses the plugins. The difference is suppose to be subtle and if you are new to mixing, your ears are not yet tuned to hear the slight differences quite yet. That comes with lots of mixing practice. Anyway, hope this helps and be sure to check out my Studio One courses here. www.homerecordingmadeeasy.com/all-training-courses?
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Your reply does help me understand why you were turning the orange symbol on and off, so thank you for your prompt reply to my question. Next up for me is to figure out what a plugin is. Onward...
Sorry, I also meant to add that I tried this last night (your EQ trick) and it really did de-mudify the song I was working on. So thanks very much for the tip.

Would anyone know why if i hit stop in S1, It sends midi data (CC 64) to VEP pro? hitting play does nothing, but if i hit play then stop the data gets sent to random kontakts? Any thoughts? No Keyboard armed, or channel or whatever you want to call it.
I have studio one audiobox 96 USB but this is so complicated to have a round sound or a professional sound. I don't have money to buy those amazing things you have to create a professional finish. It's really frustrating 😭
The "EQ fishing" technique you detailed is one I've used for years, and absolutely works. Great tip, succinct presentation. 👍🏼
Thank you Jeff!
Really good advice I've been struggling so much as I'm new to all of this

You need to learn gain staging. That is more than likely your issue

Sounds like you need to go to a studio to have your recording produced.
