      You said in the video that any Enterprise can offer it but not all Enterprise locations do. If there are not any locations near you that offer the Long Term Truck Rental, do you just call the Enterprise in Mishawaka? And, will they have one delivered to your local enterprise, or to you? Or do you have to go to Mishawaka to get your truck?
      Also, even if you do have an Enterprise close to you that does offer it, is it better to call Fay (sp?)?
      Thank you for sharing about your Hotshot life and experience, by the way. It has been really helpful.

    Does .22 a mile cover insurance and maintenance? Just curious why you do not buy your own truck being you’re paying a minimum of $1100 a month for this rental. I mean... a 2020 XL MSRP is a touch over $40,000. With a good interest rate that puts your payments at $500ish a month. That leaves $600 a month for oil changes and insurance. When the truck is paid for you pocket the $500ish in car payments.

    There is a Enterprise in FL that does the long term rentals. They were already charging $4k but according to them it was 100% returned at end of contract. The rental at the FL location is a bit different though. It's the same .22/mile but you sign a year contract and the truck rentals are only 30k miles. They also were wanting oil changes at 8k miles not 10k when I talked to them. (talked to them about 5 months ago)

    What's up, Alex! You've talked about weights in your videos but, correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't seen you talk about combined lengths, truck and trailer and the 65ft limit regulation. How do hotshotters keep their bed of their F350 or F450, for example, and stay within 65 feet pulling a 35+5 trailer? Sorry if you've covered this already but I dont think I've found a video on this.

    • @jth1699
      @jth1699 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joe- if you get a tape measure you will find that if you lucky your total length will be within inches of 65 feet - say ur trailer is 40 feet the neck on your trailer is 9 feet or so - that puts you at 49 feet to the middle of your rear axle - so if your truck less than 15 feet from the front bumper to the middle of the rear axle you will be legal... with these three measurements you can easily determine if your legal or not. The 65 foot rule is for combination trucks - that is to say both the truck and trailer are capable of hauling freight. If you remove the bed from a truck so it's not capable of hauling freight there is no over length laws in most states...

    • @45yt6
      @45yt6 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      His trailer dealer sucks at measurement, the 40 footer is actually 39 and a half. That makes him under 65. Shit ain't always bad sometimes.

    • @larrythompson8630
      @larrythompson8630 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He answered that before. He thought SRW was best for weight. At first. But realized DRW rode so much better, gave better control... he did half million miles SRW. He. Basically said he preferred DRW. I dislike DRW but he makes sense.

    • @eldridge201
      @eldridge201 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually haul more weight with a 3/4 ton F-250 than an F-350 1 ton dually and be compliant with FMCSA regulations (the DOT or officers out on the road pulling people over for inspections and safety for those that don't know).
      I will explain below.
      For "non-CDL" type of hauling (26,000 pounds and under. 26,001 pounds and over requires a CDL) like Tow Piglet does, a 3/4 ton F-250 pickup has a lower GVWR rating at somewhere between 8,800 and 10,000 pounds depending on year, brand, and model. According to the 10 second Google search I did, the 2020 Ford F-250 single rear wheel 3/4 ton pickup has a GVWR of 10,000 pounds. The 2020 Ford F-350 dual rear wheel 1 ton pickup has a GVWR of 14,000 pounds.
      What does all this mean? Well, you have to COMBINE (add together) the GVWR of your truck and the GVWR of your trailer to get a GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating) of 26,000 pounds OR LESS. WHICH MEANS that since his truck's GVWR rating is 14,000 pounds, he can only haul a trailer with a GVWR rating of 12,000 pounds. In this weight rating, you have to consider the emoty weight of the trailer AS WELL when considering how much weight can be hauled. If the trailer weighs around 7,200 pounds empty, then "theoretically", he would only be able to haul about 4,800 pounds to stay at 12,000 pounds TOTAL or under. But, it's not that simple as weight distribution or weight transfer plays a part in that as well that can allow you to actually haul more than that. (I'll explain a little bit below)
      If he has a 3/4 ton truck with a GVWR rating of 10,000 pounds, he can have a trailer rating with a GVWR of 16,000 pounds which is 4,000 pounds MORE THAN HE COULD HAVE with his dually 1 ton pickup he's using now.
      Now, although you could have a trailer with a higher GVWR rating with a 3/4 ton, other factors come into play such as your truck's Rear GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) and weight distribution or how you distribute the weight from the front of your trailer (tongue weight) to your truck (where or how you place the loads on your trailer with some weight being more towards the front, middle, or rear).
      Actually, Tow Piglet is at a disadvantage (somewhat depending on how you look at things) in terms of weight he can haul by choosing a dually instead of a 3/4 ton F-250 with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds due to not being able to haul more weight on his trailer. I say "somewhat" because you have to take into account the weight of the trailer itself empty which factors into the overall weight. His 12,000 GVWR trailer probaboy weighs around 7,200 pounds empty (I think the info is somehwere on one of his new vids though). If you had a trailer of 16,000 pounds GVWR, it will likely weigh more which kind of offsets the advantage of having the higher rated trailer. HOWEVER, it is likely only another 500 to 800 pounds at the most. It might not be any different actually in which case, you would have an extra 4,000 pounds (roughly depending on weight distribution) that you could play with (haul).
      The reason (I'm just guessing here) Tow Piglet is likely choosing to go with a dually instead of a single rear wheel 3/4 ton pickup is because of safety and/or stability and as others have mentioned, ride quality.
      Dual rear wheel (DRW) pickups have more stability in the event of a rear tire blowout. If you have one tire blowout or even one on each side in a matter of minutes or seconds, you have an additional tire on each side to hopefully keep you on the road until you can safely pull off to the side or the next exit. Or, you can choose to maybe "limp" on for a few hundred miles at a slower pace and get you to your destination and then fix your tire. With a single rear wheel (SRW) pickup you don't have that option (obviously). If you have a rear tire blowout completely while you're hauling a trailer with a SRW, you better be a damn good driver to keep it out of the ditch or possibly cause an accident with other drivers (not good for you or your insurance rates obviously).
      As far as ride quality, that is arguable depending on who you are and what load you have on. In some cases, a 3/4 ton may ride better than a 1 ton with a heavier load (most trucks actually do ride better with a reasonable load on a trailer than when towing an empty trailer) and vice versa. It really depends on weight distribution.
      For "non-CDL" hauling as a hotshot, you are probably better off with a 3/4 ton so you can have a trailer with a higher GVWR and haul more weight overall. If you are looking to be a CDL hauler (26,001 pounds and over), a DRW 1-Ton pickup is pretty much the only way to go.
      Personally, I would prefer the 3/4 for "non-CDL" hauling due to the ability to haul a little bit more weight which gives you more options when looking for loads.

      I'm not sure what is confusing about the costs to get started. He explained it very well in the video.
      I commented above in my own comment breaking the video down so you can read my comments if need be.
      But basically, it's $1000 (refundable at end of lease) as a deposit towards insurance. It's another $2000 (refundable at end of lease) as a deposit for potential expenses such as a missed payment or maintenance or whatever. Then, it's another 1-time (NON-REFUNDABLE) $1000 for set up fees at the beginning of your first lease. (If you decide to continue leasing at the end of the 60,000 miles for the first truck, you don't have to pay this fee again).
      So, it's $4000 total (there may be additional fees for taxes and so on I don't know) for everything to get started. It's NOT $4000 and then anither $4000 for a total of $8000. It's just $4000 down/deposit(s).

      The devil is in the details. I assume you got a printout of costs? Do they include insurance, other stuff in that amount. IMO get detailed printout sent to you, contact the place TP uses, request same info. Compare. It easily could be cheaper to fly to get your truck (huge waiting list). My first new trailer. I had 3 of that brand dealers within 100 miles. Instead I drove 300 miles each way to get a yr newer trailer, brake controller, including mounting, plug, lic plates... $550 cheaper then just same trailer period. (And yr older). IMO well worth the drive.
      Controller $90, install $140, plates $50 plug, $30. (Wild guesses on costs)

      The lease agreement is that. So he follows contract. Enterprise decided that @60k was where they could resell trucks, make most money. Going far over miles on a lease is normally expensive.$$$
      IIRC $.24 mile? $14,400 on a $80k truck? Zero major expenses? I predict he will buy one off the lease if he continues to get decent drivers, finds a decent trailer maker. (Would be top priority to get a quality trailer maker to make what he needs). Then he can stay home running drivers, keeping them supplied with loads. The owner truck can sit (from OTR hauling) for a month without costing $$$. He can grab $$ loads when he wants to.

I just looked into another video on here and he made a lot of sense because he was saying at the end of the year leasing you would have put in over $20,000 but if you go and put $4,000 down at a dealer you would pay about $700 a month versus $2,400 at enterprise but I would say start out with a lease and save up to get your own if you decide you want to keep doing it. If you lease you are not going to have to keep if you decide it is not for you, also you would be able to build up some business credit to make it easier to get a new truck later, I have already started building my business credit with started with vendors who give you 30 days or 90 days to pay so if you don't know about this look into Credit Suite on TH-cam they give you a lot of advice and if you have any questions you can email me at shaunarodriguez81@gmail.com

      Because in business you breakdown your yearly cost, 2 years cost, 5 years cost, 10 years cost. At .22 cents a mile his belief is that this is cheaper and more lucrative than owning a brand new truck (which I agree). Remember his month payment is equivalent of 1 days worth of working. So if someone has a truck that they bought brand new and 1 year later it goes into the dealership for maintenance and it stays there 5 days (diesels have a waiting list to be seen at a dealer and dealers take their time fixing anything) you lost 5k in possible revenue in 5 days which is 3 month of truck rental payment. He will never see that scenario now. Every truck working this hard after 100k miles will need maintenance, and guess what that truck with 100k miles still has payments to be made for another 3 to 5 years and most people finance 4 to 6 years. That 5k lost in 5 days didn't even include the cost of the dealer which just to check what's wrong in a diesel is 2hr labor at $125 minimum so there goes $250 and you still haven't even bought the part to fix it.
      His .22 cents a mile is CHEAP and keeps him making $1k per day guaranteed.

    • @dchawk81
      @dchawk81 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maidinbostoninc429 Still gonna have downtime arranging a rental swap and if you run that hard, you need a break anyway. Might as well take a vacation that week.
      22 cents a mile is just to use it. He still has to fuel it. He's paying $2,000+ a month to borrow someone else's truck when he could pay $600 a month and bank the other $1400 for repairs and downtime. That gives him a $16,800 annual maintenance budget. Should be enough. First couple years are under warranty on a new truck. Mine came with 7yrs/100k on the powertrain itself. That gives you enough time to pack the cash away.

    • @maidinbostoninc429
      @maidinbostoninc429 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dchawk81 No disrespect but you obviously never bought a brand new dually truck because your $600 a month will get you a F150 not a F350 lol. A brand new truck is around $1100 per month so he pays an extra $900/month. They cover all tires and oil change just the oil change with fuel filter is $200/month so now he is down only $700 month vs buying. After 1 year that truck needs maintenance and let me remind you a diesel truck at the dealer sits for 1 to 2 weeks to fix anything. Just 1 tow with a truck and trailer is $1k when you break down.
