    Congrats on the 6 speed, I'm surprise the 5EAT was able to hold up 400 to wheels without breaking. I have this love/hate with the 6spd Spec B, I love drivin it, but hate getting caught in traffic especially passing through Kent - down to Auburn area.

      Yeah, bumper has become pretty hard to find nowadays, but they normally go for around 6 to 800 if they can be located. Tried for one for a couple years and got lucky on it.

      @Jay C dang, going up in price, it sounds like. I don't think there are a whole lot left. Makes me feel a little worse about chopping mine up, but far future plans I'd like to modify it more, make a mold, and do something like a carbon one-off version of it.
      Legacy seriously needs some spats and things. Aside from what's under the hood that car is basically all stock and high mileage, so lots of future content to make on it.

    I have a hydraulic transmission jack if you want to barrow it, I'm local just need it back by the night of the 14th. You would want to get the transmission under the car first the put it on the jack. If you roll it on the side you should be able to slide it in and out easier

    cinder block the rear tires with e break on. Then just jack up the front as high as you can to drag it out from the front. It's not the best way but it does work on a e46 5l40e anyway might work with this.

    I used 5eat tg8 from 2010sti for about 7 years on my forester. It broke the planetary body of the 2th-3rd gear after we raise power more than 500hp. Before power was plus/minus 400 for a long time. In Novosibirsk one man made less 9 sec on quatter on tgc7 on kis SG fxt. This is a good gearbox but you need a good cooling, tuned valvebody and torque converter from 3.6 tribeca. I bought 130doll a reserve gearbox from lgt tg5d7. But a tg5c7 is much more reliable because its simplicity. I can't use it according to CAN

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dang. That is a lot of info.. good to know. I'd be interested to see where this unit would fail at. Had zero issues pushing 460 torque through it, but it has an upgraded vb, high stall converter and built internals. Ran a cooler as well, but I would set it up differently this next time around and use a thermostat piece to not overcool it and let it warm up properly. Don't know what they could possibly do to beef up the planetary body, though. Coolest thing I've done so far is completely shattered a flex plate. 😆

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say comes down to if you want the dccd and close gear ratio, or would prefer a longer more even ratio. I think the spec b can be a desirable swap for daily driving. Longer gears give better mpg cruising, and less stuff to deal with, not to mention it is the cheaper of the two routes.

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man 🙏 you can use any year six speed; just need to make sure you get a rear diff that matches the ratio. There is a nice master thread on legacygt.com that goes over all the additional parts needed as well. Wheel size all depends on setup, we make them fit if we have to, but I would say biggest issue you run into on these chassis' when going wider is the rear trailing arm making contact with the inside wheel/ tire. I currently run an 18x9.5 +45 which required a 5mm spacer to just barely clear the trailing arm. Might be able to get an 18x10+32 in there, but likely would have some poke without running excessive amounts of camber. I'll use a 275 on this setup when I purchase tires again, so it fits what I need it to. 👌

    Hey there Matt! Saw the vid with you and Tanner having your six speed built. Did you end up totally rebuilding the six speed? What year tranny did you end up with? Did you change the stock gearing? Not sure to ho with a 07 or newer. Any thoughts?

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine was from a 2020 sti, it only had around 9k miles on it and just needed a 4th gear synchro. They newer models have brass 4th through 6th so we swapped for the carbon lined ones from prior to 08. It's getting harder to get diffs now that match the older styles, so I would just keep that in mind. Ideally if you're not opening things up you'd want a unit with the carbon synchro, but if you have someone that will replace those you can go with any year range. I'd just try to get a matching diff to go with and keep that in mind.

    • @marka1837
      @marka1837 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Pretty cool most all of the era six speed will work! Are you going to have to do any kind of additional wiring from the automatic to the manual? Trans wiring, clutch etc? Or is all the wiring already there? Also how about the newer model trans, will the wiring harness work or will you have to swap it for the same era? Most importantly, when's your next video coming out??? Thanks Matt!

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      The outback will be switching to a haltech system so i can have better control over things. Normally, we would have to tap for neutral switch and do a few other weird things like flashing to a manual rom, but most of the pin outs are there. And it's just swapping or splicing some things over. We've been working hard on the wrx, so I've held off on my stuff to help out with that so we can both get to the tune next week, but I'll be filming swapping the 5eats today and tomorrow which should have me ready for the tune, and then some good updates coming up. I'm hoping I'll have one filmed and up by Monday, but if not, I'll do a live with a channel update. 👌

    Hey there, to lower the OBXT, do you just swap to coilovers for legacy?
    Or you recommend to swap all bunch of those little parts from the LGT(bushing, contorl arms, bolt...etc or even the drive shaft and steering universal joint) for keeping the right geometry like they said?

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do either. The right way would be the second option you mentioned along with removing the subframe spacers. On the outback I swapped it to legacy geometry. I would recommend to do it that way if you plan to have the vehicle align and handle appropriately.

      I believe driveshaft shop has discontinued the pre-built manual versions. You should still be able to contract them for a custom length one made to spec. I personally leave the 2 piece driveshafts even on higher hp builds, the tunnel gets a little tight, and I've seen clearance issues come into play, as well as weird nvh issues from them.

    Them things suck ass. I had a IPT Valvebody for my LGT and it went to shit quick . I have a JDM 5EAT sitting here with low miles and ended up buying a 08 Spec B 6spd Swap instead . So I'll be in the process of doing the same but I do heavy duty Harbor Freight trans jack that tilts left or right ,forward or reclined back to help get it in placed and angled to mate up to engine.

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'll likely look at picking up to make things easier. Makes me think most of the companies that do builds don't inspect or do anything sbout the valve body solenoids themselves. That's why I recommend only sending in a new valve body for modification, as I had nothing but issues when they modified mine. I'll be swapping just the solenoids so we'll see if that fixes the issues, either way holding power wise I hav3nt had issues with mine yet.

      Haha exaaaaactly 🤣

    • @MatlasDI
      @MatlasDI  ปีที่แล้ว

      @William Bryant the 5eat is a level 10 custom build. Valve body is modified, front pump is ported and reworked, has upgraded clutchpacks that are stronger with additional disks, they upgraded the diff bearing per request, and modified the torque converter to be a high stall unit. There are some other "things" they do internally, but they don't really go into detail on what exactly it is. He had said this was their 800hp option. I highly doubt it will hold that, but it'd be fun to test in the future.
