"Hey Mr Mechanic - I think my clutch has gone"........ "Well that'll be £10,000 please!!!" Haha. I've never seen so many clutch packs in one transmission box. Mental!
Hey I've got a question again... you said that the low and coast clutches typically don't go bad, but what about the seals on the pistons behind them ? Subaru considers everything behind that support with the three torx bolts to be a "non-disassembly" part, just as they do with the direct and high clutch packs. Why is that ? They prefer you to buy a whole transmission case rather than just change seals or spend $700 on an individual clutch assembly ? Their "overhaul" seems to end at the support assembly. Strange.
We’re finishing up a Nissan 7AT performance build video very soon and next week or so we’ll have The 5EAT Build, followed by probably a couple of Subaru 4EAT videos
Oh man…thank you for responding. I have the very same issue on an imported 2009 Subaru Exiga GT. Its intermittent but will likely try this first before a full on rebuild. I have read on some forums it’s an ECU issue as well.
Interesting to see inside a 5eat. Got a question is the later model 5eat with paddle shifters more robust than the early model? I don't see any shift kit for it does it have a shift kit or you can customise the valve body to give aggressive firmer shifts for those running high HP or looking for a long lasting transmission?
Stock 2011 Outback 3.6R with 5EAT. Great video. My trans is actually shifting and operating great at 172k miles. What ATF fluid do you recommend? I have only used Subaru ATF HP and changed regularly; mine has always stayed bright cherry red and clear.
I have a 09 legacy, occasionally it shifts super hard all gears, you think it's gonna brake something, even with slight throttle input. One time it did it the at temp light came on. Its very random, no ryme or reason. Does it maybe once a month. And ideas? Btw when not acting up tranny operates perfect for weeks..
They make both good and bad transmissions, but we have these particular units performing up in the 600hp range, so it's a great starting point for a strong performance build.
@iptperformancetrans In all fairness, they do make a decent transmission. It's just what people ask it to do, and then somebody like me who rebuilt them for 30 years has to deal with the pork supply chain. Blah, blah, blah applause enjoy. I was only lucky enough to end on the Mazda 4eat... fwd, slamming pumps and cluches thru the fenderwell... TH425 in a old cad is my speed

What a great video! Than you so much for posting the whole teardown procedure.

I guess there is gonna be a rebuild video for us to enjoy 😁
Stay tuned..
Looking foward to see this as well!!

Is there a video anywhere showing the last step? Please and thank you!
What are you calling the last step?
What are the common causes of hard shifting. Especially from 2nd to third.
Turbine speed sensor 2 on the valve body

We can modify either valve body for performance applications, however, the 2005-2007 respond better to valve body modification

I recommend any reputable brand of Dexron VI spec fluid

What was the symptom of the transmission before the tear down
@@romeowright920 Sorry, it was a long time ago but I believe that it was slipping in 4th and 5th under load.
I have a Subaru legacy and the high low reverse clutch burn out 2 times now what could cause the problem
Does the drum have ring grooves cut into it?Did you air check it upon assembly?
No I didn't
Yes it have ring Grove

Where does the anti clunk spring goes
Stay tuned, we'll probably go a little into the rebuild and reassembly of the 5EAT in the future.
Where did u take the anti clunk spring from
Where was it located I recently take out all my clutches and saw that spring now I don't know where it fits
