As someone in the Board Game hobby. This warms my heart to see you guys even looking at this part of the world. Some of the things you look at and try to understand got a good laugh out of me. I know I'll never be asked but man, if you guys wanted some insight into these things and like to give ya a some tour.
Also that first sentence you read to Dune: imperium is trying to tell people what genre and mechanics they can expect in it.
I love this, I really do!

No one tell them about: The Campaign for North Africa...a game so long it seems no one has ever completed it.
It's estimated it would take around 1500 hours to do so.

The world of TCG is huge now, but all I can say is don't dig too many holes. Some are more expensive then others but generally there entry point are quite High, Japanese version tend to be cheaper, while English stuff... if you wish to go full competitive, could cost arm and a leg. I play YGO OCG, WS, Holo TCG, MTG, and collect PKM TCG, I don't think I'm eating well here.

My favorite complex game is High Frontier, a 4.8 on the complexity scale, on board game geek. You’re the ceo of a company that researches tech to send rockets into orbit around earth and other celestial bodies. Imagine the complexity of launching rockets into space reduced down into a board game.

My best description of Gloomhaven was the closest we've come to a video game in a box. It has a ton of unique characters, a campaign with branching side quests, levels, experience points, retirement, items, unique monsters, road events, etc.

For those that are interested in the answer. A One Piece CG round is generally 30 minutes. DON!! (as in the sound effect that a lot of manga artists, including Oda, use for dramatic scenes) is the resource of the game. You have a DON!! deck consisting of 10 DON!! cards that come out 2 per turn (apart from the 1st player who plays just one on their 1st turn) that are either used to pay the cost of playing cards or can be used to boost the attack power of your characters or leader. Super fun game, highly recommend if you're a One Piece fan.

Most ygo turns are long depending on the game, but games don't take many turns often ending in 3 turns or less. We've come to a point in ygo where both players are able to play on each other's turn, So turns take 5+ minutes because there are so many effects and game states you have to resolve...

Board games are sick, man. I played Magic for almost half my life, but only recently I've gotten into board games (beyond Monopoly and such). The social and tactile parts of it are so fun, as long as there's one person who knows how to play and teach.

I had a lot of fun playing Gloodhaven Jaws of the Lion with my mom. She is not a gamer and I hadn't played this game before. The first several missions onboarded us really well and didn't feel super "tutorially".
We had a couple ruling situations come up where the "correct" course of action wasnt clear. In that case i just made an executive decision that would keep the game fun.
We had a lot of fun and I'd love to try the original Gloomhaven.

Table Top Games go deep. I knew a few people who were really into them: when I say really into them I mean more excited than me playing video games in Elementary school; I don't know any other fandom that goes as hard. The great thing about games like Chess and their ilk is ease of entry coupled with dynamic difficulty & complexity depending on who's playing. Some of those table top military sims showed off looked on another level.

Base gloomhaven doesn’t so much have a tutorial as push you into the first mission and expect you to figure it out, so glad that jaws of the lion has some learning curve
The one thing they didn’t touch on was the way you take actions. Pick two cards from your hand, then on your turn do the top action on one and the bottom action on another. Every time you rest to get the discard pile back in your hand or have to block a really nasty hit you lose one for the rest of the mission, meaning the options you have rapidly diminish. It’s actually pretty unique in terms of the way board games do actions.
I’m convinced Campaign for North Africa was designed exclusively for people who do spreadsheet challenges and aspiring military logistics managers. A friend tried to organise a group and you have to manage dozens of sheets of unit formations and supplies. There’s dungeon crawler/long campaign game complex and then there’s old wargame complex.

For anyone reading this comment that is wondering about this - that IS the whole puzzle of Gloomhaven. Your hand of cards represent your time left in the scenario. Effectively using them to maximize your characters abilities (damage, spell casting, support, etc.) while keeping yourself in the scenario for as long as possible and hopefully succeeding.
