It is the mistuning or the partial choking of combustion cylinders that do not burn the diesel in the chamber but over heating burns the unburnt fuel during exhaust.
I think it's the oil plus unburnt diesel being ignited by the 25kV OHL discharging to the diesels body. It looks like the smoke on the diesels the Russians use on Trans Siberian Railway.

This is not a fire or explosion it's called a Diesel Runaway where the turbo fails or the mechanical fuel pump is damaged(mostly in older engines) which feeds huge amount of fuel and the engine revs beyond its limited range which can be controlled if action taken in time or the engine may get damaged

Excessive fuel n insufficient charge air pressure will result in after burning.
Once charge air pressure rises it will stop.
Bad turbo seals nothing to be worried about unless you run it that way for awhile
