Great video! I picked up a lot from it and have some new team ideas. It seems like a solid skeleton to work with us to open with a reliable character that doesn't need a lot of meter to build up, a second character who wants to cash in a ton of meter to do a ton of damage, and an assist character with a really useful, likely invincible reversal assist to help bring it all together, whether they rely on their assist and want to win before they're alone, or are self-sufficient and can make a comeback when they're the last man standing. The problem is, I really want to play Doom, and Doom is only on one of these teams, so we don't get much of a breakdown on where he goes and what he does besides "rocks". I would love some Doom teams or at least an idea of where he's best positioned so I can mix and match with some known, winning teams. Basically I just have a bunch of idle thoughts about characters I'd like to play but no idea where to put them.
One thing I will make aware about as a method for the Cable teams where he’s “awkward to tag in”: sometimes when they have enough meter, pro players will use the guard assist method to tag Cable in then have him do Air Hyper Viper Beam afterwards, which makes attacking that team a bit riskier whenever they have two meters

Hello JMCrofts - I have enjoyed your content for many years - especially the MVC2 lore/history videos! I am curious though: What is the reasoning behind why some tournaments haven't already, just for fun, held side events where either: 1. All participants agree on a list of Teams beforehand to ban for the tournament (e.g. MSP, MSS, Santhrax, etc. - basically everyone just has to agree which Teams are SO successful that the vast majority of people agree to ban it for the tournament) OR 2. All participants agree on a list of say 3-5 God-tier individual characters to ban (e.g. Magneto, Storm, Sentinel, Cable etc.) for the tournament? Wouldn't this lead to some fun events where people could get more creative with their teams, which brings characters and combos that would not be able to survive against the top tier teams/characters? And these would be run parallel to the official tournaments (just as a fun side format). I would REALLY enjoy watching this for sure. Of course there would be endless debate as to who should be banned and why, and you'd probably never get unanimous lists - but screw the inevitable whingers - just get a 'Council of the Wise' to have a public list that gets tweaked every quarter - and get enough popular support and go from there.
look up ratio tournaments. there's a tier list with points assigned by tier, and you have to build a team with a budget of points. So you can do like, 1 top tier character and 2 bottom tier characters, or a balanced team of 3 mid tiers
Usually when the top tier teams are banned it turns into a stall-fest which top players don’t really enjoy. It’s also the top characters that offer (by far) the most skill expression, so it helps keep the game fresh even though you’ve been playing for decades at this point. That being said, low tier and ratio tournaments are held sometimes. They’re just not common for the reasons i stated above
I've been having fun using Juggernaut/Doom/Blackheart. Basically zone them using doom's rocks or bh's inferno while poking at them with juggernaut. Once they whiff or have an opening, punish them with headcrush. Once Juggernaut loses a good bit of hp, swap to doom for his comboing, and if they try to rush you down, use BH to help with AA and Juggernaut's Juggernaut Punch assist to push them back.
Great vid. But i feel sad cause jmcrofts never shouts out General Thrilla whenever he's talking about iron man. He's definitely the best iron man right now and much more accomplished in the newer age of mvc2 compared to other iron man goats like j360 and combofiend
Some other teams I love Beats runs Dhalsim, Sentinel and Cyclops (sometimes Cyclops changes for others) Dhalsim is so so good and cool in this game just also super underrated. Then there are also Blackheart teams which are just… I’m so glad no one plays those
Team Rowtron can also be played with Sent starting point. Order would be: Sent / Cable / Mag Mag's projectile assist partners well with Sent, and gives you a different Sent playstyle; you will be going for more of a low zoning style instead of flying high and close with stomps. Use lasers and low flying frying pans.
This game brings me back sooo many memories. My cousin would drag me to Chinatown in NYC to play at this arcade. I remember he was literally destroying everyone in this game and I wanted to leave. He was like “when I lose we will leave”.. He kept winning, I hate that it’s a core memory 😂😂.
One way to get the Juggernaut glitch safely is to have 2 bars, power up, head crush, and DHC before or just after it reaches it's first hitting frame being careful not to hit the opponent with the Headcrush.
I like how you said psylocke isnt that good again in the first 4m when i just watched one of your videos of The Wazzler proving you wrong a while back xD
Tbf Justin not a good example 😭 by your logic Iron Fist in MVC3 is good because Justin beat top playrrs with him. You can give any character to Justin and hell make them lokk godlike atp
@illford all I can say is go watch the video where Justin shows you every reason why she is strong and proves Jim wrong. It's in his title (Jim's). He even acknowledged it. So all the Iron Fist talk is just talk for me cause that's Marvel 3 a separate convo entirely and mechanically. Justin and the Marvel 2 community who play her outside of just an assist know how strong Psylocke is. That isn't heresy, its fact with enough video evidence and data/frames to prove it.
Psylocke is extremely good as a solo character. Better than commando and on par with cyclops. Anyone who tells you that psylocke isn’t good just doesn’t play the game at a high level
I wish that Capcom would put Ruby Heart in another game. I really like her design. The flame pillar looks cool, she slaps people with an anchor, she impales people with the bow of her ship... Let's see her again!
maybe you wanna make videos for every character? give us mahvel-noobs the basics like bnbs and general gameplay. I see thanos assist seems alright no idea about how would play him.
True story: I was playing a forgotten character (I assume Blackheart), Cable, Cyclops. I was behind, someone had Spiderman with Cable-a as the assist. I blocked the Cable-a assist. Some people don't know that a guard push can be cancelled with the Alpha Counter making it even more dangerous. I alpha-countered in my Cable-b, cancelled the forced Scimitar whiff to an AHVB . Spiderman died and his Cable-a got hit. I linked another AHVB. Cable-a died since he'd already been damaged. I guard-broke the third character with AHVB. This resulted in either my imminent or inevitable win of the match.
2:14 that’s cap. You can confirm off of damn near any stray hit with Magnus u just gotta be familiar with the situation and you can hit confirm without assist. Even an accidental crouching heavy on the floor can lead to an infinite
Air type and ground/air/anti-air compatible combo Air type: (using the following characters to attack the enemies in the air) -Dr doom -jill -cammy -spider-man -m.bison -ruby heart -storm Ground/air/anti-air hyper combo characters, to continue/finishing off the later part of the combo: -amingo -Felicia -jin -Ken -psylocke -servbot
I've been loving Team Anakaris Curse, even though I don't use the infinite. DHCs into Ruby's ghosts and Sonson's giant monkey mode are fun, and Anakaris himself has one of the most unique movesets Capcom ever created. So what if you're a screen away? You're still gonna get grabbed.
I made a funny team while playing the collection with my friends. It's Roll, Servbot and Shuma Gorath. I was kinda doing cool combos and stuff with them even though they're all bad. I call it the meme team
@@cooltron yeah I’m a team Watts fan. I just think Blackheart and the team dynamics would make for interesting content. It’s also kind of interesting from the perspective that it was inherently pretty powerful but as the meta evolved, several top tier characters were able to almost totally invalidate Blackheart.
I can see that. He should have gotten a mention over someone like AnarkisCurse for sure. But I don’t even really consider any low tier teams to be mentioned except VDO because he’s a true OG of the game and was dominating top tiers with his low tier team. Majority of the main teams with names are because they’re top tier characters and people played top tier. Iron man and war machine and not S tier characters and were hardly played by majority of people.
The starting order can vary it’s not really locked in stone. So for team row you can put sent 2nd for a safer DHC and also for the fact that cable is going to be taking the most dmg since he’s the anti air and you don’t want to bring him in 2nd with no health, team toi you can always start sent first not iron man solely and get a nice dhc from that as well. You also forgot to mention that team Matrix is named after Chris Matrix the commentator. You forgot Team Mixup - Magneto, Storm, Tron Bonne / mag, storm, cyclops named after Mike Mixon one of the best OG players RIP he passed away not long ago 🙏🏽
Strider without Doom is just asking to get sniped into death by Psylocke or CapCom. The glassiest of cannons without the safety net of Doom's rocks to keep him safe in scrambles. Jin is just dime store Psylocke; good for assists but no hope of a comeback. At least, his blodia punch super has invuln frames if you need to smash reversal on some situations. Gambit. He's just there. Unless you wanna do his infinite, he's just there. Not even his assist is worth since there's a chance he cause your opponent to pop out of combos. But hey, you keep having fun with this team, you can make it work!
Honestly sounds like a pretty cool team. Strider is a lot of fun and I can see some synergy on the team with him and Gambit with Kinetic Card being a good way to tag people from full screen and let the point character do their thing, and both have a (mostly) safe super if you need to get them out . I'm not super knowledgeable about Jin but Blodia Punch seems like a good super to DHC into and get a kill. I know a lot of people run him as an anchor because of his install, so I'd be interested in what assist you run him with. It's neat to see someone actually playing that character as something other than a last resort.
@@mattzr1550Dime store, not diet. Jin can do Psylocke's frame one assist. His assist can also raise the opponent up in the air for an air conversion. Problem: His assist does not pick up OTG. So he's instantly useless for Magneto teams. Which is what Psy's there for. Also he stays out longer than Psylocke, leaving him vulnerable to getting caught in a happy birthday. Diet Psylocke would mean he does Psylocke's work but worse. And he dies the same way as Psylocke, but worse too. No Dime Store Psylocke means he does Psylocke's assist but worse. But he does not become a useless single character if you're left with him. He's got priorities in his normals, you can jump cancel some of his attacks, and he's got a great reversal super if you want to snipe assists. He's plenty capable of mounting a comeback, unlike Psylocke So yeah, Dime store, not diet.

Kinda bummed we didn't see team big body in the low tier section. It's always hilarious seeing people instantly die to it.
Even until the final moments I was hoping he'd throw it in there as an honourable mention 😅
If we're talking about historically relevant teams, team Watts is hugely important and still very very strong.
We got 700000+ team combinations so we got content lined up for a while
@@illfordnice over used joke champ
This is that sweet jmcocaine, more mvc2 teams my dude
It'd be cool if people liked contributing to wikis enough for an MvC2 one to have information on ALL the teams
Check out the mvc2 supercombo teams page, they have listings for the best top tier, low tier, ratio, etc. teams
Some other teams I love
Beats runs Dhalsim, Sentinel and Cyclops (sometimes Cyclops changes for others) Dhalsim is so so good and cool in this game just also super underrated. Then there are also Blackheart teams which are just… I’m so glad no one plays those
I would like more videos like this Mr jmc 😊😊😊
Big fan of Team VDO
Team Rowtron can also be played with Sent starting point. Order would be:
Sent / Cable / Mag
Mag's projectile assist partners well with Sent, and gives you a different Sent playstyle; you will be going for more of a low zoning style instead of flying high and close with stomps. Use lasers and low flying frying pans.
JM Croft with another BANGER
This game brings me back sooo many memories. My cousin would drag me to Chinatown in NYC to play at this arcade.
I remember he was literally destroying everyone in this game and I wanted to leave. He was like “when I lose we will leave”.. He kept winning, I hate that it’s a core memory 😂😂.
Great video! Now do one for Marvel 3!
Hey I recommend you do this video came out great!
Raw tag is not necessary for the juggernaut glitch! You can safely counter another character in. Great vid tho!
Team Blue Dweeb has always been my favourite in the Marvel Vs Capcom games, Megaman, Captain America and Cyclops
One way to get the Juggernaut glitch safely is to have 2 bars, power up, head crush, and DHC before or just after it reaches it's first hitting frame being careful not to hit the opponent with the Headcrush.
Love the thumbnail ❤. You are so right...lol😂
Tossing Madroo's team (Dhalsim, Anakaris, Sentiel) as a suggestion for the follow up video for being a weird team that is actually pretty solid.
maybe you wanna make videos for every character? give us mahvel-noobs the basics like bnbs and general gameplay. I see thanos assist seems alright no idea about how would play him.
This game would be more interesting if they made all those Capcom guest characters better.
man I cant wait to play some Marvel vs. Captain Commando (and maybe strider sometimes)
Underrated detail about this video are those Iron man infinite reps.
Air/anti-air/ground can be good normal tier combo team also.
For me, I like to play flexible teams that have long range attacks.
2:14 that’s cap. You can confirm off of damn near any stray hit with Magnus u just gotta be familiar with the situation and you can hit confirm without assist. Even an accidental crouching heavy on the floor can lead to an infinite
Air type and ground/air/anti-air compatible combo
Air type: (using the following characters to attack the enemies in the air)
-Dr doom
-jill
-cammy
-spider-man
-m.bison
-ruby heart
-storm
Ground/air/anti-air hyper combo characters, to continue/finishing off the later part of the combo:
-amingo
-Felicia
-jin
-Ken
-psylocke
-servbot
I've been loving Team Anakaris Curse, even though I don't use the infinite. DHCs into Ruby's ghosts and Sonson's giant monkey mode are fun, and Anakaris himself has one of the most unique movesets Capcom ever created. So what if you're a screen away? You're still gonna get grabbed.
I made a funny team while playing the collection with my friends. It's Roll, Servbot and Shuma Gorath. I was kinda doing cool combos and stuff with them even though they're all bad. I call it the meme team
I play Tron/Serv/Felicia, in that order.
Tron’s meter gain is INSANE. And once you have three bars a jab is a TOD.
Spiral got my eyes spiraling from all that jiggling
@25:06 Shoutout to VDO one of the Marvel G.O.A.Ts
Great vid bruh. This is so necessary 😫
Team Refund #1
Modern/one Button Zangief, Colossus, Tron Bonne.
Team Refund #2
Blackheart, Dr Doom, Strider.
My team is Ken,Shuma,Commando
14:45 Yipes calls him "Captain Suckas$"
Blackheart teams def deserved a mention!
Would love to see if there’s any info on some of the lesser known high tiers like Dhalsim or Blackheart
i was shocked to see team troll (dan, roll, servbot) go unmentioned!!
Would love some Blackheart action in the next one!
There was a team that was played a lot back in the OG days. Blackheart, cable, commando.
@@theused421 look up a guy named Blackheart prince
And then there’s me, who’s been sticking with Spidey, Sakura, and Dan since the arcade days.
Probably wasted a lot of quarters in your days lol
I commonly have to explain to MVC2 players, that MSP can destroy a trap card, but that does not negate the effects of it.
You sir are talking in riddles
Who else here is new to mvc2 trying to make new teams?
i didn't even know anakaris was in this game
I hope someone can find synergy between Storm, Omega Red, and Sentinel and call it team SOS, 😂
i figured thrillahs team would get a mention since he’s won some bigger tournaments the last few years
I can see that.
It's really funny that it's mostly Marvel characters used
I wonder about my favorite team: Strider, Jin and Gambit...
They're probably mid but I love this trio so much 😭
Strider without Doom is just asking to get sniped into death by Psylocke or CapCom.
But hey, you keep having fun with this team, you can make it work!
jin is not diet psylocke wtf u saying
He's plenty capable of mounting a comeback, unlike Psylocke
So yeah, Dime store, not diet.
Same. I play Strider, Ken, Jin
Awesome video!!
My team line up is amingo with the healing fruit ,tron with the projectile assist and my newest addition being shuma with the eye projectile
You should have included Jill/Rogue/Cyclops because that's my team and I deserve to be catered to
Duc Do frequently alpha counters into Cable after a push block guard cancel
I would love a follow up!
Thought you were gonna mention Team Justin, for historical reasons.
Team Justin is who? Justin Wong or ?
