There's something so unique about this performances, in the instruments, voice, mood, construction. It's sooooo special. One of her best performances. This live version is better than a lot of singers' entire career.

The tone is what I loved the most. Just gorgeous.
Stephy it’s the last performance of the debut era(March 23,1991). You can hear her Emotions aura vocals mixed with debut sustained vocals.
I know. 90-92 was her best for me. That dark huskiness vanished after that and was never the same.
@@SLAPJACKS83 Her voice has nodules, so her cords thinned out over time. But the huskiness in her voice during the 1980's 'til about 1994 was really nice.

Mariah's First Vision but her speaking voice was also different in musicbox than previous eras. I believe tgat caused by nodules, not just “stylistic”. She had to relearn how to sing

Lifelong Mariah fan here. Have literally watched in excess of 1000 videos of her on TH-cam through the years. How is it that I'm just coming across this clip on 02/05/20? I so enjoyed this performance. What a gem! And what an amazing talent Mariah Carey is! I still enjoy her to this day but there was something extra special about her in those early years.

100% agree but you should also check out her vision of love performance for GMA (she went up 3 octaves in a matter of seconds) and for the tattoo club (toward the end of the song she did 13 runs in 11 seconds!) those two performances are also up there

Many similarities to her 2020 Good Morning America rendition! I just love the jazzy flow and jazzy improvs. This song really shows off her unparalleled chops as a vocalist…she’s doing a lot of muscular vocal work here and her tone and technique are both flawless.
