Hi, it's my clip. I've been asking myself the same question since this happened a year ago. Though our witness statements were pretty favorable to her, our clip was most definitely not, we didn't know how bad it was until we got home and viewed it on the computer, and cops saw the rear view too (which we did not save after handing everything over.) She was charged w reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Only reason I know is the DA's office called maybe a month after the accident and asked if we were an injured party or a witness, guess the police report wasn't super clear, and they told me what she was being charged with.

Man these Tesla repair cost are insane.
Any car impacted in that way is expensive to repair. You obviously don’t have much experience in collision repair. I sold wholesale body parts from a dealership in the early 80s. It was expensive back the. Real world experience.
And all of us are getting higher and higher auto insurance costs passed down to us. Feeling $$$ pains now. My
mothly cost through the "Farm" is double from 2016 and I had a better and more expensive car back then!!!
Yea, they have all the downsides of a luxury vehicle's repair cost without the actual luxury vehicle. Tesla themselves are to blame because they control the aftermarket parts segments for their vehicle and do not sell parts to individuals or companies who don't pay to become authorized service centers. So they can charge whatever they want for repair because your options as a Tesla owner are severely limited.

That entire bumper cover was going to be replaced anyway from the initial accident so any new damage it received was trivial.
@@Ward413 except if you look closely the car falls off the forklift not put down gently which means damage you cant see. the extra almost 20k in damages wouldve been partly caused by the body shop itself and the insurance company doesnt want to accept liability
@@cameronliddell9533 In every one of these videos the estimate for a Tesla always increase after it’s been to the body shop. That initial $8000 was too low and expected to rise once they inspected the subframe of the vehicle. Also, the forklift operator barely lifted the car up and then dropped it; they don’t drop cars gently in yards like that but it’s a non-issue as the suspension absorbs it anyway. Trust me, the insurance would have happily gone after the shop if they actually thought the additional 20K was caused by them. The owner was just shook seeing the forklift handle his car since he’s never seen the behind the scenes of an auto body shop/yard.
@@Ward413 thats besides the point. the body shop DROPPED the tesla off the forklift. That would cause damage to the underside of the car as well. Ive had a car slip of a jack stand cause it wasnt mounted right and cause a fair bit of damage

The body shop discovered way more damage underneath and the final repair bill was 52k

Kyle got cut off because he’s riding the left lane like his life depends on it. He’s going just as fast as people in the right lane and blocking anyone from passing him
Right, I had to go back to see why. He hogged the left lane. You do not see any cars in front of him. The only car in front of him was on the right lane and on all the way on the horizon.

So I'm Rachel, hello 😂 Some of the details didnt make it into the video, maybe for legal reasons or time, but the Honda driver did not escape the situation without charges, the police at the scene told myself and my husband after taking our statements she was driving on a suspended license and our video certainly didnt paint her in a super positive light. It was a dual road rage situation. I don't know if they ever found the Nissan driver. Thanks for including my clip!

#12, Hey Kyle, get the hell out of that left lane. Let others who want to break the speed limit go by. You are not the owner of that lane, nor are you a person in Law Enforcement. There wasn't any reason for you to stay in that lane other than blocking others from going faster than you.
I am very against "camping" in the left lane but Kyle was passing that first car even if was slowly. The second time the jeep flew by on the shoulder you can see that Kyle was actively passing a white vehicle on his right. Then finally the jeep moved over and brake checked while Kyle was attempting to pass on the left.
Are you Law Enforcement? Don't tell Kyle what to do. If he wants to break the law, then don't stop him from doing that. You are not the police.

Which car? Kyle wasn't passing any cars. If you crank your binoculars to maximum, way off in the distance you can see a car in the right lane. Kyle may have passed that one within 3 business days, but that's still pretty extreme lanehogging by Kyle.

As a European, how does that work with US insurance?
You can have only an x amount of coverage?? And then you would have to sue for the rest with the driver responsible or claim with your own insurance?
That doesn't sound very fair..
You buy however much insurance you think you require, but each state has a minimum amount of liability coverage you have to carry; with separate amounts for medical coverage and vehicle damage coverage. You're not legally required to carry insurance to cover yourself and your vehicle, but most (or all?) banks require you to carry that coverage if you finance it. The idea is that since everyone is required to carry insurance, you don't actually need any to cover yourself... but a lot of people break that law and don't carry insurance, so there's another product most people get called "un/under-insured motorist" coverage.
When people talk about having to file a claim with their own insurance, that's the coverage they're filing under. Part of the problem is also that new vehicles cost way more now than they used to, and most states minimum liability coverage hasn't changed to reflect that. So if your state requires a minimum of $25k of coverage, and you have that level and hit a new Tesla model S, your insurance may not be anywhere near sufficient.
Technically the driver of the at-fault car has to pay the difference between the damage and their insurance coverage... but that almost never actually happens, so you just file a claim against your own insurance's underinsured policy and they cover the difference.

That is indeed very different then here (Netherlands). Even the most basic insurance covers all damages to 3rd party (including medical bills).
So if I hit a Ferrari, writing it off and injuring it's driver severly, insurance will cover everything.
Only thing that happens is that my 'accident free years' will drop down, so my insurance becomes more expensive. (you get a discount % as you have more accident free years)
Insurance only covers a certain amount based on what you pay. People choose the cheapest option and get the lowest coverage which varies from state to state.
As an Australian, where insurance is a much more serious and structured thing, i never will understand US insurance either.

Hey there! I’m the first clip! Some of the information was a little scrambled and didn’t make it in!
The red tesla and I did not have the same insurance!
Also Kia driver was only licensed for a few days.
The 8k repair estimate was from MY insurance.
I wasn’t able to contact the other drivers insurance for over a WEEEK!
I had to battle my insurance for 2 months before I got my new model 3 performance.
The neck pain from me hitting my head on my window also!
I was also only visiting California, I’m from Seattle and I had to fly all my things back which was horrible.
It took 2 months for my insurance to finally decide to total it out after a long battle and another repair bill came in at 52k.
Alliance auto body in California was a huge help in the insurance process.
Both insurance providers wanted to fix my car but with my situation of living 1600 miles away from the scene of the accident and all the damages my insurance FINALLY just recently deemed it a total loss.
Also 3 cars were towed from the scene, the only car that was drive able was the red tesla.

Note: I am very unlucky, I’ve been door dinged twice in my 2 tesla 2 days in a row and I’ve had it for less than 2 weeks. I’ll be sending in the clips soon!

7:00. Michiganers don’t take kindly to Left-Lane Drivers. I’m not saying what the Jeep driver did was right, because it wasn’t. However, Kyle in the Tesla should have merged to the right lane so the Wrangler could pass him in the left (passing) lane. As is the law in Michigan and many other states.
I feel your pain. Colorado was one of the first states to adopt this into our model traffic code, and yet people STILL do it!

Mate, nobody is saying Kyle was right to escalate immediatly to roadrage and endanger the Jeep driver, nobody is saying Kyle is okay to cause risk of an accident and a rollover.
Yes you pass on the right, correctly. But if you meet someone who's as hyper-agressive and unstable as Kyle, who immediatly goes ballistic, there's not much you can do other than accept that it's up to Kyle whether Kyle wants to cause an accident and end up in jail.
When you are driving, your only job is to drive. Don't be doing nothing else.

Off-topic: Those issues with insurance claims in the U. S. are ridiculous from foreigner's view, especially those super low coverage limits. 😮 In our country (Czechia, Europe) we have mandatory basic insurance for all cars (which helps to bring the price down, some pay under 100 USD per year) with coverage of at least ~1.5 million USD, premium insurances offer 3-5 millions (this is to cover not only the damage to all victims' cars involved in the crash, but also possible long-term health issues, loss of employment etc.). Plus you can insure yourself on top of that (to cover your own mistakes), this is optional and more expensive though.
In the US discrimination is far bigger than in the Czech republic and profit margins for insurers are much higher.
If you're an 18 year old you already get robbed? Well in the US if you needed to afford $ 1 million coverage, you'd get premiums of $ 1000-1500 a month for young people.
Not an option in a country where driving is basically a requirement to live.

I also drove to California from Washington, and I had to fly back to Washington and I was told my flight and expenses to get home would be covered and I’m still waiting for the money for all the expenses.

12 is because the tesla was hogging the passing lane. Teslas and new jersey drivers are notorious for doing that.
Agree on the first part, not so sure about the second. Left lane hogging is endemic to every car brand and locality.
@@bvoyelr I'm only stating from personal experience. In my state all teslas hog the left lane and go 2 mph under the limit or pace the center lane vehicle no matter what speed. I deal with it everywhere in my state. It's common curiosity to move over and let cars pass but not with the teslas in my state. Now New Jersey drivers tend to go 55 in the left lane when our state limit is 65. If you go under 85 in the left lane you are going to get hit or road raged on. Oh and one more thing New Jersey drivers,....... YOU CANT MERGE ONTO A INTERSTATE DOING 25!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say that "this kinda crap wouldn't happen", although it would probably happen a lot less often. I see speeding cars weaving through traffic even when the left/passing lane is open and available to them. Some people just have the mindset to zip around other cars even when a simpler/safer option is available to them.

Nope. If autopilot or FSD aren’t engaged, then the Tesla becomes REALLY stupid. I found this out the hard way the first week I owned my M3.

Hi, it's my clip. They were chasing each other, double road rage. I included some of this in the form Wham Baam has you fill out, but they didn't include it.
From my POV, the Nissan driver didn't just brake check the Honda, she straight up ran her off the road. They cut the clip in the middle, but it shows them trading places and continue to bump and brake check each other until that moment. The Nissan didn't stop because she knew she'd get in trouble for causing the Honda to spin out, even if the Honda was not blameless (I know it's a she because of the Honda driver's photos.) Honda driver caught a reckless driving charge, as well as driving on a suspended license. Don't know the outcome of her criminal case or if they ever found the Nissan driver.
@@skullladymalady The clip starts off with the Honda chasing down the Nissan and intentionally trying to cause an accident. Honda never backs off until they finally wrecked. I don't see how the Nissan can be blamed for anything in this scenario.

I've been driving for more than 20 years in Europe and I've never seen that kind of rear bumps at traffic lights ever, let alone been into one. 2 times in a month?!? How do those people get a driving license in the 1st place?

Insurance is weird in America, you have to go through your own because they only have $25k? As far as I know in the UK there’s no limit, if it’s someone else’s fault it’s someone else’s fault and their insurer pays whatever is owed.

Wow, Rachel. Way to go being a protective mom. That unborn baby has so much to look forward to. But while you’re road raging, did it ever dawn on you that the drivers around you have people who depend on and love them waiting at home? How will they provide for their families laid up in a hospital, or without transportation, or God forbid dead, because you have a “holier than thou, I don’t care about anyone but me” attitude. Only you could have prevented the situation and you chose not to. People, you have a responsibility to EVERY ONE around you to make sure they are safe when driving around you. If you can’t do that because of your ego, temper, or lack of responsibility, or inability to drive undistracted….. stay off the road. Can anyone guess I’ve lost 2 loved ones in separate incidences because of the poor judgements of others? A measly few dollars does not make up for the loss.

I live in Massachusetts. I always file a claim with my own insurance company first. I never deal with the other insurance company and let my insurance company deal with the whole thing.
If an accident is not my fault which can be pretty much proved with TeslaCam, I never have to pay a deductible.
I have had two incidents where people have backed into one of my cars and I made a claim with my company and got a call from the other insurance company each time and showed them the video.

In germany every car insurance has a minimum compensation of 1.2 million € for property damage and 7.5 million € for personal medical damage.
It is also fucked up regarding health insurance. In the UK if you need expensive medical treatment you will get it without having to pay a penny, and other developed countries are similar. The US healthcare system is not designed to help people with health problems, it is to make money for the healthcare industry and also the insurance industry. It is amazing that Americans are not rioting in the streets about it.

Brake checking seem to be a popular thing in the states. Normally where I drive, persons don't want to get their car damaged. But in the states "It's go kart time!" smh
It's not about damaging the car. It's the ego that's bruised of the person doing the brake checking and that makes them nuts. They stop thinking and do everything off of raw emotion.

Newer diesel trucks can’t roll coal like older models because of a thing call DEF (essentially a thing that makes those engines run cleaner). Maybe Canada has had something like that in place.🤷♀️
Run DEF and leave your engine tuning and modulation alone. Put a bigger turbo or supercharge it.

I've said this before, but WHY do Teslas come with such crappy cameras? They look like something from an old '80s videotape, and the color rendering and contrast are always horrible. That "Red" Tesla looked like a pumpkin. Get it together Elon! For the price you charge for those cars, those cameras should have the quality of an Arri Red. (Professional Cinema camera.)

Only in America do you have to go through your insurance to fix damage done to your car by someone else as their insurance wont cover it.
In Australia our insurance will cover ALL DAMAGE done to someone else car and property that we cause.
Wont matter if it is $2,000 or $200,000.
That is what insurance is for, you should not have to fuck your premiums unless you are at fault.
