Just a thought though. I was taught to slow down when nearing a yellow light, not continue along at the same speed (from the distance that Amy was at anyway). Left turn traffic almost always turns on or even after the yellow which is why I stop if I’m coming up on a yellow going straight to allow them to turn. They are often in the middle of the intersection and have no choice but to go or block traffic. For Steve's video, there's a mantra that I learned from the Baltimore Bike Club while I was a member. "Cyclists are safest when they act and are treated as vehicles on the road." If that bike was a car, he would be found at fault in a collision.
You’re right about the bicycle not abiding to the rules of the road but unfortunately the car was not abiding by the rules of the road either. I would have to disagree. The light didn't flip to red until she had crossed the stop line of the intersection. She had a right to continue through. I hope she takes that to court.
Avoidable, yes, her fault, no. The light was yellow when she entered the intersection as most US states are permissive yellow light states (if the light is yellow you can legally enter the intersection). Only 8 states are restrictive yellow. If I were Amy I'd absolutely go to court over this since a ticket on her record will raise her rates and she absolutely didn't do anything illegal by the letter of the law. edit: The business has a 616 area code which is Michigan. Michigan IS a restrictive yellow state (if you CAN safely stop you MUST stop). So the ticket may be legal. Still with the wet conditions she could argue in court that she could not safely stop. Michigan law (MCL 257.612(b)) states that "If the signal exhibits a steady yellow indication, vehicular traffic facing the signal shall stop before entering the nearest crosswalk at the intersection or at a limit line when marked, but if the stop cannot be made in safety, a vehicle may be driven cautiously through the intersection."
Not sure what the laws in the USA are, but I'd assume it's similar to the UK, "you must stop for an Amber light unless unsafe to do so", meaning, unless you're going to have to slam on and risk getting rear-ended, or you won't be able to stop in time (whilst doing the speed limit) you must stop. If this is true, Amy is 100% at fault as she had so long to stop. Atleast 100 yards when it went amber.
How tf can you say Toohaiku was following the impaired driver from a safe distance when he’s following that closely? Seriously should be a minimum of a 2 second gap and for safety more like 3 seconds!!!

#9--I say the bicyclist was at fault for not paying attention to traffic and for not using a hand turn signal to let the driver behind know that he was turning right.
There's a channel called Just Rolled Out. I'm amazed at what people are driving on the roads. Cars with the steering rack barely attached. Brakes that they kept on using to the point they aren't there anymore. Yesterday there was an exhaust repair using metal from an old oil filter. Contrast that with this channel - someone put a slight scratch on my tesla in a parking lot. That'll be $2000 to repaint it so it's back to being like off the showroom floor.
Yeah. Once someone parked into me in a parking lot and that person denied doing that and said I did that. With the Teslacam I would not even have to say anything and show them the video straight.
7:51 I had the same situation except that the car behind me flashing and beeping was an ambulance! I should have known better to NOT merge in the middle of traffic no matter how much the ambulance is flashing and beeping behind me...
The ambulance isn't even allowed to do that. They are allowed to drive faster and go through intersections without giving way and pass red lights etc. But they are not allowed to cause danger to other drivers. That driver could lose his license if you had proof.
Oh, that's where my flashlight went! Jk, if I lost my streamlight stinger from my car and it punched through the tire, that person would probably be replacing a rim too... also, that cyclist was absolutely in the wrong. You should always use hand signals to convey intent of travel in absence of light signals
17:12 Weirdly yes, I think it's the third or fourth flashlight in a tire I have seen, I don't know why so many are lost on roads, but they might be forgotten on the roof of a car or the bed of a truck, and then fall on the road. I think it's the shape of the front end that makes it dig into the road and push the back end trough the tire.
the biker that cut in front of that car would be at fault. Bikers are supposed to use hand signals. it would be like if it was a car that didn't use the turn signals

Many places have rules against bicycles running on sidewalks/footpaths. UK is among them. I DO think the cyclist should have signaled though, but so should the white car, but mostly the bicyclist.
About that flashlight in the tire, I've had something happen to me like that years ago, I was driving on snow and ice covered streets when my right front tire went flat. I had a bolt the size of a small drinking glass stuck in the side of my tire. I still can't figure out how that happened!

Absolutely agree. Idiots both ride bikes and drive cars. The cyclist usually ride more carefully because accidents are much more likely to be fatal but there are those cyclists out there that ride to the bar because they lost their license from DUI..
Steve in Wales needs to be more tolerant of bicycles on roads. In this case, the cyclist didn’t signal or check for traffic before changing lanes and making a turn - 100% at fault for poor maneuvering here. That said, bicycles are vehicles and they have every right to the road as a car (where there isn’t a designated bike lane/path). At least that’s how it is in the US, dunno about Wales.
That's how it's done in literally every single jurisdiction on the face of the earth. "Cyclists shouldn't be on roads" is a terminally carbrained take; what damage are cyclists capable of? It's like saying knives should be banned but guns should be legal
The cyclist was obviously at fault, not looking before changing lane/crossing the road and no hand signal (that is, for place where it's required by law for cyclist to hand signal their turns)

For Joe's video...the Mercedes is clearly at fault. While it is definitely common courtesy to let someone in, it's not required. The Toyota driver was a jerkass but didn't do anything illegal. If someone won't let you in, is it really worth it to destroy your car over it? Just slow down and get behind them. It's not worth it to provoke a confrontation over something like that.
That's exactly what I told my teenager (testing soon for his permit). Toyota was a jerk for not following the custom, but Mercedes was legally obligated to yield.
The accident is Amy’s fault. The law states that when a light turns yellow, stop if you can safely do so. Amy had PLENTY of time to stop. There’s a reason why they say you should stop at a yellow light if you can, at that was a perfect example of why.
Stop if you can is clearly the call of the driver. If your front wheels cross the stop line before the light turns red you have a right to continue through and clear the intersection. It was the turning driver's fault.

In this case they are both being negligent. She had PLENTY of time to stop. She entered the intersection 5 seconds after the light turned yellow. That evidence would definitely come in to play if they took this to court. the other driver also tried to save time and entered the intersection on yellow. They are both at fault bud.. #13: I hate when people try to be "polite" and yield their right-of-way. DON'T DO THIS. For the reason in the video, but also because it only makes traffic worse; people expect you to take the right-of-way, and being "nice" only confuses them - so they stop and wait to see what they should do. Also, if anything happens, your failure to yield the right-of-way puts you totally at fault. This behavior is extremely common at 4-way stop signs. It seems like most people don't know how they work. I heard one of the best pieces of advice about driving in traffic from a flight instructor: "Don't be polite. Be predictable." (Some airplanes don't have radios, so the pilots need people to follow the rules, so they can know what to expect. Also, at an airport with a control tower, unusual maneuvers are distracting to air traffic controllers. Distractions are very very bad, in that job.)
Those 4-way stops are just bad, IMHO. I'm not sure, but I think most of the rest of the world puts stop signs only on intersections that are particularly accident-prone, and then only on two of the branches. All other intersections have no signs, which means the right-before-left rule applies. This means, everyone gives way to the person coming from the right, or to oncoming traffic if they're turning left themselves. Unfortunatly, this can create a deadlock, e.g. car A wants to turn left, car B is oncoming, car C is coming from the left of car A. That means A has the RoW over C, C has the RoW over B, B has RoW over A. Everyone is waiting. The first one to wave the car he has the right of way over is the hero and resolves the situation. The whole concept works rather well.
5:22 that's not illegal left turn, you can turn left yielding to upcoming traffic. This is not the first time you are making this mistake in your videos
We need stronger penalties for driving uninsured, being underinsured and not covering the damages you cause, and for failing to self-report damages you cause to parked/unattended cars.
I doubt that's true everywhere.. putting on your turn signal, starting to leave your lane but never actually leaving it doesn't seem like causing an accident to me (they corrected on the line, didn't even look like it went over the line). Looks like a terrible overreaction by the driver in the middle lane. I can't imagine giving no fault for such a bad knee jerk reaction with the steering wheel lol.
@@1byrdman007 They aren’t 100% at fault, but if that car didn’t start changing lanes into the other car no accident would’ve happened. And in the US, which I believe which is where this took place, that is considered a non-contact hit and run and that car has to stop
@@shwn4922 I certainly agree that a non-contact hit and run is possible, but you would need a lawyer in this jurisdiction to determine the specifics (more than just US, state and local laws need considered.) Starting to change lanes is hardly a reason to swerve the way that car did, and I'm guessing a good lawyer would argue very little liability compared to the bad driving from the middle lane driver. If they had actually left their lane into the other person's lane I could see more liability, but driving on the line and then correcting doesn't seem like a huge infraction. The biggest infraction was probably leaving the scene, the scene of an overreacting bad driver lol.

2. It is illegal to overtake there, the road markings clearly indicate this
3. The cyclist did not signal or use the turning lane, instead using the wrong turning lane for that junction
Both at fault, however the driver would be liable as the larger vehicle and the fact they where illegally overtaking, Hope this helps!
Edit: Cyclists have full priority over cars on all roadways on the UK except for motorways, they have, legally, a right to be there
The cyclist was entirely right and the driver entirely wrong but a lot of drivers think the cyclist is wrong because he exists.
Which is why ppl hate cyclists. They can try to cause an accident like this and still get off scott free.
cyclists should be on the sidewalk
@@ariestitties Which is why we need to build bicycle lanes. Drivers are so dangerous to each other, to bicyclists, to pedestrians, and to buildings that they need their own separate lanes away from traditional traffic like bicycles and pedestrians.
@@langhamp8912 I think you’ll find the cyclist was also wrong. He did not use the filter lane correctly and also did not signal. They both were in the wrong but in a scenario where it would have been legal for the car to overtake a dare say the law would still side with the cyclist as they seem to never do any wrong.
I think they both would have been liable if there had been a collision with damages. Without dash cam footage unfortunately the car probably would have been held liable.
Looked like the cyclist failed to signal or shoulder check, though with the dark clothing it's hard to tell. But why was the car on the zebra section?
No doubt about that. He was very lucky to not be killed or injured.
Most cyclists are a lot better than him. Otherwise they'd not survive.
Where I live it is in fact, the law. "The bicycle is defined as a vehicle. The operator of a vehicle is granted the same rights and subject to the same duties of the driver of any other vehicle."

#25 is why I purchased aftermarket "rubber bumpers" to stick on the farthest edge of my car doors. And lots of people also do that in my country. It's not just to prevent denting other people's cars, but also to protect that edge from being damaged and becoming a starting point for rust.

Model Y broke the scale for safety of a vehicle of it's class when it was tested by EuroNCAP last year, and we even got to see a real world example of how safe the Y is when a doctor attempted to kill himself and his entire family by driving off a 330 foot cliff in California early this year; they all survived.

Amy: your not cursed owning a Tesla. You just need a few driving lessons. That yellow/ red light accident was 100% avoidable.
Ikr

5:50 its the cyclists fault 100% - they are supposed to signal with their hand if they are planning on turning.
Not the same in many states but in Michigan, Amy's location, it is though the wording is slightly different.

I'm from Romania and this is my first time seeing a video from Romania
#13: I hate when people try to be "polite" and yield their right-of-way.
DON'T DO THIS.
For the reason in the video, but also because it only makes traffic worse; people expect you to take the right-of-way, and being "nice" only confuses them - so they stop and wait to see what they should do. Also, if anything happens, your failure to yield the right-of-way puts you totally at fault.
This behavior is extremely common at 4-way stop signs. It seems like most people don't know how they work.
I heard one of the best pieces of advice about driving in traffic from a flight instructor: "Don't be polite. Be predictable."
(Some airplanes don't have radios, so the pilots need people to follow the rules, so they can know what to expect.
In US nobody would stop & cars would just impact. You need to have stop signs at intersections
5:22 that's not illegal left turn, you can turn left yielding to upcoming traffic. This is not the first time you are making this mistake in your videos

4:31 that is actually considered a non contact hit and run, so yes it is still a hit and run and that car is liable for the accident

Who else watched this live at like 6 am? Also now that I’ve seen this Channel and what Tesla autopilot has done to save people’s lives, yeah I’m getting a Tesla. Model x black is my favorite model. Reply with your favorite model and color
Black Model S Plaid!
@@WhamBaamTeslacam Nice choice!
@@WhamBaamTeslacam I want a Tesla Model X Plaid, blue exterior, cream interior, 20 inch wheels, with FSD. That's my favorite model
@@cooperlee-clay754 (See above) That's my favorite model. I prefer the Model X over the Model S because it's larger and the doors are a lot cooler.

13:56 lets just appreciate how much lane keep assist helped in that person in the dodge.
I doubt they were using lane keep assist
lol no, lane keep assist would have *prevented* them from dodging!
It's kinda in the name... 💁♂️
Also, the timestamp doesn't seem to make sense. Did you mean 5:20?
Even Amy was going front, she technically didn’t ran a red light because the light was yellow, but why did the cops said it was a red light, and also Amy could’ve avoided the car turning left or could’ve just stopped their
If you watch it again you will see that it turns red before she is through the intersection.
She easily could have stopped there too, given it was a brand new Tesla with brand new tires.
@@XDIRTYxDOGX I'm not interested in blame, I'm interested in avoiding accidents. In that situation I would've just stopped and then I wouldn't be totaling my car (which is a serious pain in the ass even when there aren't shortages).
She was lucky that the yellow was so incredibly long. No way it was good judgment on her part to test that yellow---she had amble room to gradually brake and stop. She had more than enough distance to stop. 50/50 sounds fair, given it was just a roll of the dice that barely got the nose of her car past the line before it turned red.
@@ischmidt Not interested in blame????? You said that, "Amy could’ve avoided the car turning." isnt that placing blame? lol... The car that turned did not have the right a way and is still at fault... Call an attorney or police officer and they will tell you the same. Blame would be placed on the turning driver.
On video number one while she should’ve stopped she did not run the red light as her first axle was over the white line before it turned re
Amy is average women driver saying she’s “cursed” 😂
0:59 wtf police department, she already crossed the stop line before the light turned red, so she should be fine...
5:56 the cyclist of course. He didnt even indicate that he wants to turn
The vauxhall should be paitent enough to wait just incase the cyclist turned and then went round when there was no turn lane
DJJumpdancer correct there is something called hand signals or a light attachment that you can use
-the only hand signals that everybody should know are
(left arm level with shoulder)
1. STOPing - arm at 90 degrees down fingers together pointing at ground
2. LEFT TURN - arm pointing left fingers together
3. RIGHT TURN - arm at 90 degrees up fingers together pointing at sky
you are required to know these to get your license here in MI
and yes you can use these if your rear lights go out in your car
Well both. With the markings on the road the car wasn’t allowed to do the overpassing anyway.
