Then right when they start to rebuild what was lost, Godzilla appears and brings further destruction, setting Japan to an even lower point than after the war, down to "Minus One" or -1.0

I'm glad y'all picked up on the "anime time" during the atomic blast. Everyone criticizes Noriko for pushing Koichi instead of both running, but the blast was basically a nuke exploding just a few blocks away. It was a split-second reaction.
@@blacky8987 she was in Shocked then that was a split seconds decision, she wants Koichi to survived because she thinks Koichi needs to redeemed himself
Right?? They forgot about newton's third law. She had to push him hard enough for him to go into that alley way which means equal force back to her. She had no time to get a running start for a tackle.
17:39 - The atomic breath in this version of Godzilla has been equated to the overload of a nuclear reactor. The entire buildup to it has signs. The dorsal fins on his back are like cooling rods that keep his power in check. As they move out, the power starts to build up. He takes in oxygen, an essential fuel for combustion. The ‘rods’ jam back into place, causing a sudden reaction not unlike what happened in Chernobyl. Godzilla forcibly expels the condensed raw power (which seems to briefly damage himself in the process) and the result is a full on nuclear explosion, complete with a mushroom cloud.
I think it was portrayed beautifully this time around. Not sure if anyone else picked up on it, but its the same ability he displayed in GMK; the very first atomic breath he shot was akin to a nuke going off. Not sure if it was nearly as devastating, but the director definitely took the ability used once and formulated it around Godzillas atomic breath.

To fill in for y'all. This is an alternate sort of take of the first Godzilla. Godzilla was supposed to be some sort of monster that lived in the sea by a little island. American nuke tests irradiated him and he became radioactive and angry. In the original some backstory explains that he had a family of other monsters that all died in the bombing so he was angry due to that. True.. this was an All-star Cast in Japanese Industry, Kamiki and Minami-san was a the Perfect cast for The Lead Role, they already have their chemistry on their past Projects , and they are really Japan's Ace Actors of this Generations
In this Godzilla, they're pretty much remaking the 1954 movie… And they did amazingly wonderfully well! Not only the acting but the visual effects got an Oscar for this, that's right Godzilla minus one got an Oscar for visual effects. That means this Godzilla was so good that they had to give it an award at the 70 years you can't even look it up. It was definitely heartwarming. This Godzilla's atomic breath is unstable, he shoots out the nuclear energy. It concentrates in one spot and then boom a nuclear explosion. Godzilla's main purpose is to expand his territory, as well as make the humans pay for using such a tremendous power to hurt the very planet. He calls Home and that made him what he is. This movie is called Godzilla minus one, the Japanese had absolutely nothing after the two bombs hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki... just when they were about to get their life back Godzilla came and then they had less than nothing. He is pretty much the result of the lingering effects of not just World War II, but of the effects the two nuclear bombs had on the country. Also, Godzilla always had regenerative abilities. It may not have shown in the older movies, but the fact that he kept on walking and his body didn't look like they were scars whatsoever that he could heal extremely fast. In fact in Godzilla 2000 they pretty much explain how he was able to heal. The black mark on the women's neck the Director had said it was Godzilla cells
How do people not recognize the nuclear testing effecting Godzilla? They show the us testing weapons literally less than a year after Oppenheimer and we should know history. Crazy
The war ended in 1945 the smaller Godzilla that he saw on Odo island was caught in the July 1946 nuclear test blast at Bikini Atoll that was what mutated him and caused his cells to regenerate leading to his larger size. No sea mine had a blast like Bikini.
The higher ups wanted war. The emperor, despite the popular myth also wanted war. The populace were fooled into believing war was a Good and useful thing.
Operation Crossroads was when the US was testing nuclear bombs at the bikini atoll, a series of islands much closer to Japan than America. IRL it caused mass relocation of residents of the area, with the inability to return due to the fallout, as well as a lot of concerns about radiation spreading in the ocean to Japan. In the movie these series of explosions are what end up mutating godzilla and causing it to rampage across Japan.
The answer to your question about Godzilla’s purpose. Basically wants to destroy and punish humanity. When we first see him in his first form, Godzilla seemed to have contempt for humans but would only attack when provoked. Think of it like a cornered animal protecting his territory. Kind of like how Jason Voorhees and the shark from Jaws does. But once he mutated into his familiar form, his contempt turned into outright hatred and misanthropic. It’s implied that Godzilla blames humanity for his condition. That is why he seems very outlandishly violent and destructive. He wants to punish them for their hubris in a sense. Godzilla was not always seen as a “hero” or “anti-hero.” This went back to his more “villainous” roots. Hope this helped it a bit guys!
I'm what you would call a GODZILLA-HOLIC! I've seen them all and have been watching since childhood! Since seeing this movie, my sons new nickname is Tachibana! That's all I call him now! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
After Shikishima told Akiko he wasn't her father, my best friend who i went and saw it with said out loud in the theater, "you ain't her father but you are her daddy! Man up!'"
Godzilla was based on the US post WW2 above ground nuclear tests in the Pacific. They had to the wrong weather information and the fallout fell onto a fishing vessel from Japan. The sailors made it back and all of them died. Godzilla is an allegory for the bomb. They were paying tribute and reinventing Godzilla as this unknown terror who gets super sized due to being near the atomic blasts.
Fun fact: Takashi Yamazaki the director of this film is a big fan of Godzilla, he also featured Godzilla as cameo in "Always: Sunset on Third Street" on 2005 and he is the director of "Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle" which have same design for Godzilla in this film
Godzilla at the start of the move was before he got exposed to radiation. Called godzillasaurus. And his just about ever iteration of Godzilla is able to regenerate fairly quickly.
I may be wrong but Godzilla was first shown to regenerate in Godzilla 2000, it’s actually a major plot point. They alternate between that or just him being thick skinned lol

It’s called Godzilla minus 1 because after the war Japan was ground zero trying to rebuild, Godzilla came and brought them down to minus 1. At least that’s what I’ve seen floating around in the Japanese circuit.
Godzilla has Cell Regeneration G1. Its similar to instant regeneration, he can even regenerate from a single surviving cell, took him 5~6 months to fully recover his shape but not completely his bodily function... give him 9 months give or take. Not even all monsters in GMK after reducing Godzilla into a mere heart can fully destroy him. The instance Toho Godzilla ever dies is when he was blown with an "Oxygen Destroyer" and Burning Godzilla as he went into Nuclear Meltdown, not even leaving a single cell as it crumbles into dust.

In traditional lore, Godzilla was a naturally occurring species until atomic testing mutated him into what we know. so at the beginning that is just him in his natural state being a natural animal. A territorial predator. That is why he showed up, cause Odo island is HIS territory
I'm sorry guys i have to mention and gush about Shin Godzilla. Its a personal favorite and i love that both of these movies show how utterly terrifying Godzilla is. Hope Shin is available sometime
The craziest details about this movie is when the godzilla using the beam inside the city and after that the "kuro no ame" appears just like at the Hiroshima and Nagasaki event. The survivor said that after the nuclear, there was a black rain falling down from the sky.
This movie is basically a remake of the original black and white 1954 Godzilla where he was a villain symbolically representing the Atomic bomb. He was just a random force of nature that wanted to destroy and was defeated in the end. He only became an anime type monster king later
I love how the People got Froze and Amazed while Godzilla Charging his Atomic Breath , like they are watching How Epic this Movie Masterpiece 😂 they really witnessing a History 😂 Btw that ash Rain was really happened in Japan after the Hiroshima Bombing that was called Kuroi Ame ( Black Rain )
She WOULD HAVE been dead. The spot on her neck was organic material from Godzilla. I believe she def died but it attached to her (vlasted off of Zilla by tanks or the beief damage he does to himself with his heat ray) and regenerated her. Or at least saved her. Great reaction with amazing feedback and theories. Bravo.
Here's what'll blow your mind. Godzilla broke into many pieces at the end, but we only saw one piece regenerating and we don't know which piece it was. Does that mean there could be dozens of Godzilla's regenerating from all the peices??
I have a theory why Godzilla crumbled at the end. He's so big that gravity is constantly trying to squish him flat; the only reason he's still alive is that he's regenerating the damange all the time. This also explains why he's so angry (he's in constant pain). When Koinichi blew up his brain, there wasn't anything making Godzilla regenerate fast enough to counteract the effects of gravity.
At 9:20 during the nuke scene that was a nuclear bomb test that irradiated godzilla The war was over It was just a nuke test the Americans were conducting in the pacific newr japan
this is unrelated to this movie but i think you guys would really like the 2008 speed racer movie. It was way ahead of its time but now more people have grown to see it for how beautiful it is.
Godzilla is the embodiment of war. That is why Godzilla comes from the southern sea. The destruction of Tokyo represents the Tokyo Air Raid of March 10, 1945. And the blue ray of light represents the nuclear bomb. Each series has a slightly different meaning for Godzilla, and in the previous Shin Godzilla, it is said to be the embodiment of the grudge spirits of the dead from the war. The last one, in front of the Imperial Palace, is said to be the embodiment of the spirits of the dead, and various lines of dialogue are cited as evidence of this. This time, Godzilla has become a reiteration of the tragedy of war itself, in light of the world situation. Incidentally, Godzilla will never attack the Imperial Palace.
18:48 Radioactive rain; the aftermath of a nuclear explosion, or in this case, atomic breath, and it's definitely NOT something you want to be caught in.
Those trains don't stop on a dime no they don't but in the city with many stops they averaged ten miles an hour as they were designed and built in the 1920's.
Fun Fact: Godzilla always had a healing factor. It's called REGENERATOR G1. But it's hasn't been portray in the Monsterverse yet! It originates from the TOHO Godzilla! Check out the Heisei era for more information on it! It was great to see some version of return.
Godzilla hates humanity so much he risks melting down to keep powering up to kill more... this movie handles so well post war hate from ww2 When asked why a British soldier became friends with his Japanese capture in the 90s he simply said "sometimes the hating...has to stop" Godzilla couldn't stop..and paid for it

True.. this was an All-star Cast in Japanese Industry, Kamiki and Minami-san was a the Perfect cast for The Lead Role, they already have their chemistry on their past Projects , and they are really Japan's Ace Actors of this Generations
It’s called minus one because Godzilla comes right after the atomic bomb bringing Japan lower than 0 aka minus 1
Post war Japan was Ground 0 to Negative one Real Quick when Godzilla Wrecking Havoc
def one of the best Goijira films ive seen in a while
Is the best
The director confirmed that the black thing on Noriko's neck in the final scene are Godzilla cells and they are the reason she survived.
Thanks for covering this, guys! One of my favorite movies.
Pat that was NOT a birthmark on the woman’s neck at the end of the movie 😂. Look again
What this movie really made me realize is no matter the people, no one truly wants war. The people of Japan were very much in opposition of the war.
Lol no they weren't. They joined hitler buddy
The higher ups wanted war. The emperor, despite the popular myth also wanted war. The populace were fooled into believing war was a Good and useful thing.
This is the best Godzilla film ever made. Great reaction bros! 👍🏿
Godzilla was not always seen as a “hero” or “anti-hero.”
This went back to his more “villainous” roots. Hope this helped it a bit guys!
Its still amusing seeing some dudes secretly get annoyed by the middle dude🤭
I'm what you would call a GODZILLA-HOLIC! I've seen them all and have been watching since childhood! Since seeing this movie, my sons new nickname is Tachibana! That's all I call him now! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tachibana so cool.🎉
How is Shin godzilla? also how are the 3 animated films of Godzilla on netflix ?
@@Oakland510 Shin Godzilla is good! The animated movies were just OK to me.
@@cyndigirl418 thanks! I had all 3 parts of the Netflix animated ones on my watchlist , I’ll skip that and head to shin
Tachibana San was a clutch 🥶🫡
Toho Studio not Toei Animation, Toho has done (all) Godzilla movies from Japan of course😮
I was confused for a bit
The man in the middle is the type of person you would least want to watch a movie with.
After Shikishima told Akiko he wasn't her father, my best friend who i went and saw it with said out loud in the theater, "you ain't her father but you are her daddy! Man up!'"
Godzilla the best damn monster ever! Over 30 films and he still killing it from 1956 to now!
39:29 i really like this part t when they see that she has a actual mark
Godzilla was based on the US post WW2 above ground nuclear tests in the Pacific. They had to the wrong weather information and the fallout fell onto a fishing vessel from Japan. The sailors made it back and all of them died. Godzilla is an allegory for the bomb. They were paying tribute and reinventing Godzilla as this unknown terror who gets super sized due to being near the atomic blasts.
this movie was a perfect love letter to Godzilla and the fans.
This was fire i never noticed what was in her neck
A possible Sequel indeed 😂 G-Cells
It’s called Minus one, because Godzilla attacks Japan after they got nuked. So now they’re starting from less than zero.
It hurt when I found out long ago that Shin wouldn’t be continued, but this new version is so worth the pain and the wait. I’m so excited to see what Toho gives us after this. I’ve always despised the American versions and kept waiting for Toho to bless us.
People forget how tuff Godzilla's scales are & also his healing factor.
please watch shin godzilla now! it is the other super famous beloved modern godzilla
Its defintiely worth a warch but thats cap that its beloved lol . While i do enjoy it when thay movie came out it has the fandom pretty split in half. Half loved it half hated it. There was no imbetween
@@greenkidd529it’s my favorite version of Godzilla and the movie was a bit slow with all the meeting and no clear main character it’s still a good watch
there are plenty of godzilla movies were the humans defeat him
The GMK movie is one of them
What do u mean, "since when". Godzilla always had a healing factor.
I think minus and shin are the only two godzillas to actually show the process of healing I could be wrong
Godzilla minus one is on Netflix and it's in dub, and about her neck it was confirm she got G cells
Badass reaction
It’s Godzilla Minus 1 because it’s a prequel to Godzilla 0, the original 1950s movie.
why yall dismiss joel like that when he was talking about her neck like yall knew what it was
Y’all it’s 1950…info didn’t travel fast like it does now lol
They wouldn’t have been able to sound an alarm ahead enough.
Love the reaction too! Best Godzilla movie I’ve seen in a looong time.
17:50 People dying

I love how the People got Froze and Amazed while Godzilla Charging his Atomic Breath , like they are watching How Epic this Movie Masterpiece 😂 they really witnessing a History 😂
Btw that ash Rain was really happened in Japan after the Hiroshima Bombing that was called Kuroi Ame ( Black Rain )
godzilla not dead he lives on
She WOULD HAVE been dead.
Majin Buu Theory ?
I have a theory why Godzilla crumbled at the end. He's so big that gravity is constantly trying to squish him flat; the only reason he's still alive is that he's regenerating the damange all the time. This also explains why he's so angry (he's in constant pain). When Koinichi blew up his brain, there wasn't anything making Godzilla regenerate fast enough to counteract the effects of gravity.
lol
I think the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests were what inspired Bikini Bottom in spongebob.
I have been looking for it! WHERE DID YOU GUYS GET IT FROM!?
Kong would never stand a chance against a blast that is literally a nuclear bomb
At 9:20 during the nuke scene that was a nuclear bomb test that irradiated godzilla
The war was over
It was just a nuke test the Americans were conducting in the pacific newr japan
this is unrelated to this movie but i think you guys would really like the 2008 speed racer movie. It was way ahead of its time but now more people have grown to see it for how beautiful it is.
That atomic breath was out of this fucking world.
The guy in the middle talks too much
1:48 *Patreon and Chill* that was clean✊😁
She’s now biollante
🤫🤣
bruh, about to turn into Mothra is crazy! 🤣🤣🤣
13:29 every goes crazy, except dude on the left is terrified
18:48 Radioactive rain; the aftermath of a nuclear explosion, or in this case, atomic breath, and it's definitely NOT something you want to be caught in.
Those trains don't stop on a dime no they don't but in the city with many stops they averaged ten miles an hour as they were designed and built in the 1920's.
The best GODZILLA movie might i say.
Fun Fact: Godzilla always had a healing factor.
It's called REGENERATOR G1. But it's hasn't been portray in the Monsterverse yet!
It originates from the TOHO Godzilla! Check out the Heisei era for more information on it!
It was great to see some version of return.
Come to think of it, have we ever even seen Monsterverse Godzilla show any visual signs of injury?

Can't you appreciate it quietly? Can't you understand that you are disturbing other viewers?
It is very disappointing.
Godzilla hates humanity so much he risks melting down to keep powering up to kill more... this movie handles so well post war hate from ww2
When asked why a British soldier became friends with his Japanese capture in the 90s he simply said "sometimes the hating...has to stop"
Godzilla couldn't stop..and paid for it
Gotta watch Shin Godzilla next.
You sank my Godzilla!
i think you guys are the first reactors i've seen that directly saw the stuff i did, specifically the pressures of the ocean beign a genius play to harm godzilla
King Kong ain’t messing with this Godzilla either😂
Definitely should watch Peppermint with Jennifer Garner plus Miss Bala with Gina Rodriguez
to pat's point about the humans killing Godzilla, its not the first time. the original godzilla of 1954 had the humans killing him, but a goated movie nontheless
it called minus one cause japan already at ground zero after the nuke drop and godzilla attack put them at minus one
