@18:00 Something that I've found to work really well when there's cars backing up at a roundabout is to upgrade the road entering it to match the number of roundabout lanes. Then if a space opens up, multiple cars can enter the roundabout at the same time, which works much better than having a single lane where cars enter the roundabout one by one.
Yes, I find that works for me also. Or, rather I tend to downgrade the roundabout to match the number of lanes of the main road, rather then the other way around. I have a six lane road going into a three lane highway roundabout, so the lanes match. This main roundabout is kind of the heart of my city, so that helped a lot. A three lane rondabout needs lane connectors to work properly. If you only use arrows, only the two outer lanes will be in use. But with lane connectors, you are able to force traffic going to the third exit to choose the inner lane when entering the roundabout.
One thing that irked me is at approximately 18:14 Biffa extended a 4 lane, bi-directional road and wrapped it toward the highway. Instead of making it a bi-directional connection, he only attached a slip lane off the highway.
Hi, Biffa. Network Extension is a good mod but compared to a lot of the other mods you are using it is very big and adds a lot of roads that can't be easily replicated in vanilla (The big asymmetric roads for for example) it also adds some roads that are ALREADY* in vanilla (the two and four-line highways). Maybe have a look for yourself with the mod turned off so you can see what is and isn't there so you can make it clear in the videos. *The mod is so old (like a lot of the good mods) that it added the roads before they were in vanilla. Now I think it only still has them so older cities can keep working. Thanks for all the awesome videos BTW :-)
@8:00 just have only the outside lane (left lane) be straight with no switch in the node. Let the other two switch and all 3 lanes will be used with the people going straight in the left lane and the others exiting and entering in the middle/right lanes.
There were only like 3 problematic spots in the whole city, from which the whole rest backed up ... A traffic light can really help with the flow of a roundabout, if there is one road where most of the traffic is coming from. The Yield sign favors the inner road, even if it is way less busy. A two-phase traffic light can shift the priorities so that the traffic flows way better.
Just keep in mind that increased mass transit usage doesn't always mean that more (unique) people are using it. If you just build your metro really inefficient so the people would have to change a lot and spend more time in subway, the number increases anyway (it will count one person more times as he changes). I don't think it was this case though, his metro system was just a mess and you changed it for better but the loops are kinda overused here... In London, there's only one loop lane and all the others are linear.
@20:45 pretty sure some of the slowdown going from the roundabout to the street is caused by the pedestrian crossing. Maybe adding an elevated pedestrian crossing and then banning pedestrians at street level will further improve the traffic flow.
Biffa please don't do that ever again! You did wrong on those lane arrows! I can't watch your videos just because I'm scared of seeing things like that! :'( 13:32
Thanks for the video! Please do another vanilla only video. It helped me a lot the asymetric roads tip. I'm a cities esthusiast but I have it for the PS4.
17:56 you could just allow vehicules to enter the junction since the roundabout is big and there is barely anyone on it. Same for the other ramp comming from the highway.
I wish there was a keep right unless passing or turning left option. If coded correctly that would keep vehicles from going into one lane and only that lane as if they all had rode rage.
a sip o tea and biffa can use his hero abillity to solve all problems a city can have. also you often do the mistake to forbid cars in the third lane of a roundabout that they can´t leave because you say they can change by one lane max and because they can´t find a way to there line they keep driving in cycles and its even shwon clearly in some videos.
I don't think I would call it your best fix. I've seen you do some much more complex fixes in this series. Still, some very useful tips in this and a great fix!
In a lot of cities it is typical to see a junction as in this city at the 8:00 mark. Vehicles travelling from East to West and wanting to go South, come off after vehicles that are travelling North to West join. This means that vehicles are added before the vehicles exiting are removed, with accelerating vehicles joining and breaking vehicles leaving jockeying for position. In this example there is a slip road that allows traffic wanting to go from the East to North to leave before the junction, wouldn’t it work better to use that turning to handle traffic going from East to North and East to South and having a fork in the slip road with one fork joining the North bound and the other fork looping round and over to join the South bound traffic South of the junction? Likewise for the other directions. This way vehicles are removed before more vehicles join.
"1 like = 1 tea sip " Which would mean that: A sip around 25 ml of your tea, the video got 6.1k like ( 17.11.2019) which would calculate into > 25ml* 6100 = 152 500 ml which would mean 152,500 l. This sounds like fun
Absolutely love these Biffa and can’t get enough, but might I suggest a change of music every once in a while. I’m honestly getting really sick of the same songs, different songs every episode would be great, thanks so much! Bjorn Nyland’s channel has a ton of different non copyright music if you want to check him out
I think you overlooked something very important, the cars from the highway cannot reach the first roundabout, they all go the shortcut - which is leading into the city, around the second roundabout, back through the city and finally on to the first roundabout. This would be a better fix I would suggest, let them reach the roundabout directly from the highway, instead going through the city... 2:35
Something you never do (especially in the beginning), and its really bugging me out, is to watch where the cars are going and if there could be added shortcuts through the city, so so the cars dont have to take the highway to get from one part of the city to the other. I think your fixes could get 3 times faster...
Mirco clearly you don't pay attention to his videos because he adds slip lanes all the time and he doesn't necessarily show every single thing he does in every fix video
@@babygirlhehe9748 if you check where the people is going in the first place you can avoid fixing highway intersections that wouldn't be overloaded anyway if the roads would be set down smarter
Mirco and he does that in all his videos?? like i'm rly not understanding. there's no way you pay attention because he always talks about having as many routes as possible to get places and he's specifically mentioned roads that connect neighborhoods and he's put lanes connecting them and slip lanes and all that stuff so that they don't have to take the highway and go off via roundabout every time they wanna go somewhere?
I've had enough. Watching your videos inspired me to first start playing Sim City (sucks), so I checked out Steam and found the game's going for $7.50. I really dig the traffic management bit.I'm curious what all the mod talk is about...

The 1/2 is vanilla, but the 2/3 etc are not. They can be found as individual assets and/or part of one of the network extensions mods. (For compatibility reasons I prefer the individual ones). That said, Mechanically, they're vanilla, they don't involve doing anything you can't do in the base game to make them work as shown.
You REALLY need to fix my city. I have a huge Highway Interchange and it is always clocked up. I‘ll send you the city tomorrow probably. I hope that you will fix it!
Another dedicated vanilla video PLEASE! Been addicted to the switch version and could always use more traffic tips. I have like 17 roundabouts and I’m only at 40,000 cims
At the start of the montage there's still quite a tailback, I wasn't even sure which one was the fix! I think doubling the offramp at 17:26 would fix most of it, possibly with a lower speed on the roundabout.
You don't need to manually add up the passenger counts on the metro... it is right on the main mass transit flyout (split into residents and tourists).
There should be a mod where those vehicles that just change lanes so that it holds up dozens of cars behind them are driven by someone called Magoo. It's such a Magoo move.
9:06 the road to the oval about is raised and the second road coming off the first roundabout is raised as well, I can't tell how traffic gets to the right of the city

I don't think it was this case though, his metro system was just a mess and you changed it for better but the loops are kinda overused here... In London, there's only one loop lane and all the others are linear.
Thx for that shortcut bit Bif, great help!
I was just watching a video from bald and bankrupt and then immediately this... your voice sounds just like him!
YT used to recommend his stuff all the time, and then a couple of months ago just stopped doing so.
so weird, you didn't build any roundabout in this video, that doesn't feel right at all.
Sick montage at the end man, I've been enjoying your vids and I don't even play the game!! 👏👏
Thank you Jayce Westerlo :-)
Thanks for the video! Please do another vanilla only video. It helped me a lot the asymetric roads tip. I'm a cities esthusiast but I have it for the PS4.
17:56 you could just allow vehicules to enter the junction since the roundabout is big and there is barely anyone on it. Same for the other ramp comming from the highway.
I wish there was a keep right unless passing or turning left option. If coded correctly that would keep vehicles from going into one lane and only that lane as if they all had rode rage.
I think you should separate modded and vanilla fix, if you have mods, use them instead of going vanilla, you can make 2 series if you like
a sip o tea and biffa can use his hero abillity to solve all problems a city can have.
also you often do the mistake to forbid cars in the third lane of a roundabout that they can´t leave because you say they can change by one lane max and because they can´t find a way to there line they keep driving in cycles and its even shwon clearly in some videos.
I don't think I would call it your best fix. I've seen you do some much more complex fixes in this series. Still, some very useful tips in this and a great fix!
"oh you have stargates" ... wait what?
Yeah I would love to see a new vanilla video Biffa. Definitely up for that 😁
Amazing as always! Enjoy your tea! ☕
This is a beautiful city, well done on the traffic!
Fork handles?
@@drivelhouse7 Not sure what they are called but here is a real life example www.google.com/maps/@51.4009517,-0.5339245,16z
have a sip of tea from one tea drinker to another, cheers mate. great vid.
Thanks 😁
This was awesome! Great job man!
13:37 you wanted to seperate the right and left turn and straight on, but you made it 2 straight on and one left turn and no right turn
I can understand why TfL rejected your application as planning manager. You actually improve the traffic in cities
I liked it. Nice to see that even though i thought i looked through everything there was still stuff to improve on 😁
I liked this video before even watching it so that Biffa could sip his tea.
"1 like = 1 tea sip " Which would mean that: A sip around 25 ml of your tea, the video got 6.1k like ( 17.11.2019) which would calculate into > 25ml* 6100 = 152 500 ml which would mean 152,500 l. This sounds like fun
Backwards montage, loved it!!
I don't even play this game but it's so satisfying to watch freeing the traffic :D
@@babygirlhehe9748 It's more than just slip lanes. Alternative routes that avoid the highway entirely are extremely useful.
MadocComadrin he does that too?? i'm so confused like you rly must not watch his videos
Mods are on the steam workshop 👍
I think that 3 and 2 lines road is not vanilla. i dont have it in my game with all dlcs.
Also i love how this City is built. It Looks really nice.
Haha also funny that you add Metro use while the summary stands Right on the left side for every public Transport. But i am sure you just forgot it in that Moment. I love your Videos. Hope you do soon a City review again.
Yep. It is not. It is a well-known mod: "Network extensions 2"
I would say the better metro planning did help to get more people on it, but the city also grew by 20k in this video which probably also contributed
At the start of the montage there's still quite a tailback, I wasn't even sure which one was the fix! I think doubling the offramp at 17:26 would fix most of it, possibly with a lower speed on the roundabout.
You don't need to manually add up the passenger counts on the metro... it is right on the main mass transit flyout (split into residents and tourists).
cheers Biffa, straight up traffic magician.... maybe you could take a look at Toronto, Canada and improve that a bit?
There should be a mod where those vehicles that just change lanes so that it holds up dozens of cars behind them are driven by someone called Magoo. It's such a Magoo move.
Great video. Awesome traffic control
9:06 the road to the oval about is raised and the second road coming off the first roundabout is raised as well, I can't tell how traffic gets to the right of the city
Yes please do another vanilla traffic fix 😁
watching a lot of your videos i'm a sim city 4 guy and love the traffic aspect of this game. i can play this game right now my laptop will not run that game it barely runs sim 4
Love the videos. I tried playing with despawn turned off and I bankrupted my city lol
