      @@miguel.ledesmaledesma1790 so they weren't for real last year? Or the Dodgers for that matter? All I'm saying is they're good yes but October baseball is another beast ala 2022. Last year they blamed the playoff system and yet they had a week off before their divisional series and lost to a hot team. Everyone has them a shoe in for the WS but c'mon anything can happen. Let's pump the break and let it play out lol

    The best “save” of Kimbrel’s career was the $60 million he saved the Braves, and offloading the Upton brothers was huge for future growth. Shelby Miller fell off a cliff after they traded him away which was a huge timing bet gone right for the Braves. You might have considered mentioning that those mid-teen Frank Wren years proved that buying up big free agents isn’t always a key to access unless you have AL East money (i.e. Yankees). When the Braves got away from the farm system development and resorted to free agent shopping they had their worst years. Great video, buddy, keep ‘em comin!

    One thing I've wondered sometimes is if Coppy ever really had a plan to start competing. When he was fired/banned, it didn't seem like the team was ready to compete yet. When Anthopoulos was hired, he flipped the switch and here we are.

    I was pretty wary when the Braves started the rebuilding process. It rarely seems to work swiftly with teams often seemingly in the process of a perpetual rebuild like the Royals were for 30 years. But it worked out pretty well with the Braves not blowing a ton of money on an aging big name and getting their pieces in for the long term. Still a bit sore that Freddie left but Olson, while not quite Freddie, has really come and shown why the Braves were willing to give up so much for him.

    One correction is on 2018 Draft. He didn't sign with the Braves, not because he chose to play in Japan, but because he was offered a signing bonus below value of the slot due to him having a wrist injury at the time. He declined, and then went to play 1 year of college ball to be eligible for the 2019 draft, but in May was offered a deal by Fukuoka to play in Japan instead.

    The Kimbrel trade definitely wasn't "centered around Maybin". He was an afterthought. Wisler and the draft pick were the main part of the deal. It was largely to unload BJ Upton, as well.

    it wasn't about playing the phillies it was about the unfortunate situation with that Braves team's health. Max fried sick with a stomach virus Spencer strider not fully back from oblique tear with 0 rehab time ( leading up to the game Snit literally said we'd be lucky to get 3 innings out of strider and that he was on strict pitch count) as well as the would be replacements pitchers from AAA (Huscar Ynoa and Ian Anderson) were also both injured and unavailable. So wrong time? yes. wrong team? No. Braves would have won that series if they were healthy. no doubt.

    John Schuerholz taught me a valuable piece of info when talkin about this subject. He was part of the Royals when George Brett was drafted. He was the GM in 85 when they won the WS. He was complimented on his genius in putting that team together. His response was, "Yeah. Genius. I drafted Brett in the 2nd round. If I was so smart, what wete we doing in the 1st round.
    The point is, that you can draft, trade and develope to your hearts content, but you never really know that Acuna is going to be Acuna until he becomes Acuna.
    Don't get me wrong. The Braves have done an amazing job. But there is an element of throwing darts. Teams that develope their ok talent to good and good to better. like the Braves tend to spend a lot of time leading their division. But this team also benefits from some fortunate talent. Acuna and Strider in particular.
    Dodgers, Giants, Astros and Rays are some of the other good teams at this.

    At 4:48, I was unaware that Freddie Freeman a first baseman could post an ERA+. I'm assuming you meant 132 OPS+
    At 17:33, You tell the story like Freddie walked and then they went out and got Matt Olson but that's not true at all. They made the Olson deal and Freddie only walked and signed with the Dodgers afterwards. Now you could argue Freddie's holdout on the years (No he didn't hold out for more money, he wanted another year on the contract guaranteed) played into that decision and you wouldn't be wrong because he did force their hand. But they did in fact trade for Olson before Freddie walked not the other way around

    • @pjbuma13
      @pjbuma13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What actually happened was Freddie’s agent kept turning down offers from Braves without communicating to Freddie. The Braves saw they were weren’t going to get a deal done so they went and got Olson as to not be without high level 1B. Freddie’s agent was the problem not the Braves or Freddie himself. This is why he fired his agent early on the 2022 season.
