      Yes, same rules apply to guys pants - you'll see the same kinds of wrinkles indicating where more or less room is needed in the pants.

    Tested on an old pillow case for crotch adjustments i extended the crotch point 1/4" and it helped a lot,even made the crotch length a bit longer so i didn't need to add any to the length of the body section.TY both for doing the vid. :)

    Thank you so much for the 'live' demonstration of the fitting issues. About the foil thing: there actually exists a quite sturdy flexible ruler that can be used or this purpose too. I recently bought one of about 24 inches. I think they are for sale up to 36 inches. Because of its 3D shape it will not flip when shaping or measuring a curve on your fabric. It is also helpfull for i.e. shaping or adjusting necklines. I have no relation to any seller by the way, it's just a tip :-).

    I am making pants and the difference between my crotch length and the pattern is 2 inches. I removed 2 inches from the front and nothing from the back. Now the back leg length is about 2.5 inches shorter. Is this suppose to happen or did I do something wrong?

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  ปีที่แล้ว

      That doesn't make sense. You should go back to the paper pattern and compare the lengths on the paper pattern first, then compare those to your fabric pieces.

    Those fitted shorts look a bit like cycle shorts. I have just finished making my very first pair of pants. I used panels of red and blue, in a nice soft stretch cotton. Only trouble is there needs to be more room in the back. These where made from an old oversized pair, that I pulled apart and generated a new pattern from. I think I mucked up when I tried to convert the pattern from a pair of baggy shorts to one that is close fitting (at home exercise pants). Hopefully I can learn something here and make my pants usable. TY :)

    so i have a question. What if you have a pair of pants, that have no wrinkles anywhere so they seem perfect, but are uncomfortable when you sit. What should you do then?

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what the issue is sitting. If they're pulling across the thighs, you may need to extend the front crotch point. If they're uncomfortable because they're pulling down in back, you may need to extend the back point.

    • @mellie4174
      @mellie4174 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well for me they just feel really tight in the crotch, like they are cutting into me. But when i stand in the mirror i don't have any pulls anywhere. Maybe it is because it is a woven and all my pants are jeans in strech denim?

  • @makeu4828

    I am super frustrated because I don’t understand any of this! I buy pants/shorts and usually they give me a front wedge but also have WAY TOO MUCH material in the thighs. If I had a typical bubble butt, that material would be pulled out of my front to accommodate for the butt. But my butt is pretty small and I have a belly that usually is the same size as the bubble of my butt in the back unless I starve myself for two weeks straight. So visually I have two butts one in the back and one a bit higher in the front. AGH!!! The smaller the size of the pants I find, usually the better they fit my thighs but then at times the more they stick all up in my front business. I guess the only way to find out what I should do is to buy some “training pants” at goodwill for cheap and to experiment scooping in and scooping out to find out what in this world would be the correct solution. Because none of the tutorials I watch are helpful in explaining what issue I have...too much or too little material in the crotch. All it shows is straight up loose or tight in that area but I have both loose and tight at the same time which frustrates me to no end!!! None of these videos get me closer to understanding anything.

    • @Mellysews

    Thank you. I had no idea how important the curve was for the crotch area. I have about the same body type as Susan & for some reason that makes me feel better. I'm wondering if the duct tape molds to make a tailor's dummy lower half would help determine the curve. I've been trying to learn how to make one, although I might just make a partial dummy for certain things.
    The tin foil thing should prove helpful. I wonder if putting a pipe cleaner wire inside would help or hinder the process for forming the curve.
