    Saw this at Fully Charged in Sydney in March and was impressed. Thought it compared well with the MG4 which was also shown there. Particularly liked the good headroom compared to many EVs. It was very popular with the crowd and was of interest as VW group as a whole didn’t exhibit.

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, it’s a good thing. And VW Group wouldn’t have had an exhibit because only Cupra (and Audi…) has EVs in Australia.

  • @gesp5151

    Trouble is the EV platform is VW and despite the stated charging speed figures, it doesn’t deliver those! When you complain they say it’s only a range (albeit it never gets in to the range!). My experience was DC charging 20-80% is more like 50-55 minutes not 35. AC charging about 80% of the time was only half charging due to some battery safe mode that apparently randomly cuts the charge so on a cheap overnight 6hr charge I was getting 20kw not 40! Big difference. I had mine for 4 months, it then spent 6 weeks in garage and I got a BM i4 instead which is brilliant and does exactly what it says

    Hiya,
    We have the V3 version in the same blue, with blue interior. Has heads up and sat nav, park assist and the 20 firestorm rims.
    Just to give you a heads up. The two rear seats and lack of a pan roof is due to Cupra reducing the weight because of the extra kg of the bigger battery.
    Love the car and the range is superb.
    Regards Phill, Worcestershire England.
    P.S. Ours also has wireless carplay/auto.

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Phil!
      Yep, the ones in Australia don’t have wireless stuff yet, due to Australian regulations on the platform or something silly. Those features will get added later on.

      Is the Tesla network open to non Tesla cars in aus? The only reason I decided to order one of these is because in the UK and mainland Europe you can use the Tesla superchargers now. They are far cheaper and work, unlike a lot of their competition.
      If the Tesla network wasn't open, I think I would have waited another 3 years. 3 years Is my lease cars schedule.
      Also if it wasn't for the born I probably wouldn't have gone EV, it's one of only a few that do anything for me. I probably would of gone with the Peugeot 308 estate (wagon). that also comes in an EV, only 150 with a similar range.
      Looking for an new car this time round has been quite hard, cars are all getting a bit samey and a bit uninspiring. I use to get really excited the last year of my lease, searching out what I wanted next. But this year, there is little out there in the UK that's any good.
      Id like some of the Chinese brands to come over here, but we are blocking them via tariffs. In china is where the action is now. The old school Europe and American OEMs are slowly dying and pumping out shite.
      And I can't bring myself to get a Tesla. F me they bore me, and they are too common. That's one thing I like about the Born, it's been out 3 years. And I've only ever seen 2 of them on the road, in North Wales UK.

    No V2X
    No charge timing ability (even 2013 Leaf has this)

    No one pedal driving.
    Could use an extra 50kW too. Otherwise love it!

      Thanks for the feedback mate. See, some of those are the decision makers that I really don’t like to add into the reviews I do because while they might matter to some people, they won’t matter to everyone. So, I don’t mean to gloss over stuff, but I know people do usually conduct extensive research before they buy and will figure out what’s important to them.
      For me, some of those things don’t matter. But I can’t see why they would matter to other people.
      Cheers for the comment mate. You’re going to like the MG4, I reckon. 😉

    Just bought Cupra Born with all the options and some. I was bummed out over the car not having the heads-up display and sat navigation that comes with that, but that wasn’t a deal breaker as I wanted a drivers car with Spanish flare. I was however really unhappy to find that the app wasn’t available when picking up the ca, that’s linked to the sat nav and heads up unit that’s not in the Australian car. Had I’d known I would have paid a little extra and purchased the twin motor long range Tesla despite my wife’s sustain for EM/Tesla and the fact that there a dime a dozen or a little bit bland.
    All said and done it’s a great car to drive but it’s not a Golf R that’s for sure.

    • @markoshark4697
      @markoshark4697 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told by the local Cupra Garage that the app did work for setting aircon and stuff before jumping in the car. They also said that the Android Auto could be done wirelessly. Hoping that's the case

      @paulpavlou9294 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markoshark4697 Hi Mark,
      I’m in Australia and the app isn’t an option and I hope Android works better than Mac OS as my iPhone 11 Pro works most of the time and my wife’s iPhone 13 Pro hardly ever works. Neither of the iPhones will work wirelessly and must be tethered. We cannot find any differences on our phones to offer any reason why on works and the other doesn’t. We have been short changed compared to our British and European friends as their cars are fully featured and Cupra Born that comes to Australia is not.

    • @mondotv4216

      Spanish flair? It's a VW ID3 under the body panels so it's actually mostly German.

      @@paulpavlou9294These are the common complaints with the MEB platform cars. The software is clunky and patchy. And with no inbuilt Satnav, you're reliant on Carplay and AA, especially in an EV where navigating to charging stations is important.

  • @trottiscliffe
    @trottiscliffe ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's odd. UK model has sat nav, Apple and Android. Why on earth would they omit those features? There is a huge new software update version 3.2. It needs to go to a dealer for an upload and takes six hours. However, if these have just arrived in Australia, they may have the new version. The only pont about the 77kwh model is weight. I have a 58kw and it doesn't have such a wallow, and weight isn't as noticeable. This car is an ID 3, made in Germany tweaked and IMHO is better car, better steering, handling and cabin. UK warranty is a mere 3 years.

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s to do with Australian sign off for the platform or something. It’s the first and only MEB model on sale here so far. The others (ID3, ID5, Buzz, Enyaq) arrive next year with the features active.

    It's an ID3 underneath with some prettier body panels. More expensive and heavier than a Model 3 RWD with slightly more range but much less space and options. A lot more expensive than a base MG4 which is also RWD and starts at $38,990 plus on roads, has about the same amount of space and handles great - it's much lighter. It only has 350km of range but for a daily driver that's more than enough. I'd say that's it's main competition. The equivalent range MG4 is $55,590 plus on roads but comes better equipped as standard and is lighter and more efficient. And coming soon the BYD Dolphin which starts for $100 less than the MG4 in the base model. They'll struggle to sell that as it's FWD and a much less appealing body shape.

  • @acde9355
    @acde9355 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've test driven this model and it was excellent. The only thing that could stop me from putting a deposit would be the absence of high level driving assistance. For other factors, this car is definitely bigger than it looks like, at least more practical than a FWD Mazda CX-30. Being eligible to apply for a $6000 tax rebate means this car has a sub-50k drive away price and makes it the most affordable European green car (including EV and PHEV)❤.
    So, it's going to drive, not that small, not that expensive ❤

    1,950kg kerb weight? Yeeesh, and here I thought my AWD SUV at 1,7500kg was way to heavy.
    Which VW factory is this form/ Spain or eastern Europe? No Android Auto (wired or wireless) is a big NO NO from me, not interesting in OEM infotainment (that said I still find SYNC3 to be very good save for no ability to send natural reply messages) that have HVAC within sub menus.
    No doubt that this is a good BEV but again price is to high to make it affordable to the masses.
    Also hot tip, if you have a wall box charger which does 7.2kW please double check the power point and cable is at least rated to 20amps and the fuse (located inside the electrical main switches box) for that power point is at least 30amps, better be safe than sorry, remember more amps down a standard line leads to bad bad things.

    • @therightcar

    • @MikeStevens
      @MikeStevens ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest issue for me is the connectivity features it's missing in our market, because they were so keen to get it here quickly. Remote connectivity, wireless Android and CarPlay, etc. Features that are offered in more and more rivals. I mean, these aren't priorities for everyone, but they matter to tech obsessives like me!

    • @351tgv
      @351tgv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeStevens - Wireless Android Auto is not a big deal on my end as I have high quality USB C cable in the car so its a simple connection and away I go, I can also se the device to not recharge but still provide connectivity.
      A good example of Android Auto, I was able to listen to and reply in natural voice to SMS and also 3rd party apps like MS Teams and WhatsApp, listen to Tune In radio, my Pixel 6pro does a great job with ford SYNC 3 connectivity / Android Auto.
      Last weekend I used "Here Maps" instead of Google Maps and it worked just as good even with live traffic updates overlaid onto of the built in Australian Maps (no need for data DL maps), loved all the fixed red-light /speed camera and live mobile radar and mobile speed camera updates which were well in advance (upto 2km with a warning every 500m) that said I did switch of overspeed warning as I had set to notify if it was over 5km/h at highway speeds, the live true GPS speed is also very accurate, overall Here Maps for Android Auto works belter than Google Maps does.
