Got this knife recently and I think it´s great. It is quite similar to the Recon 1, a knife I have carried for years. This knife is basically a slimmer, slightly smaller and lighter version of the Recon 1. Super strong lock up. Mine was not overly tight out of the box. I have owned a number of Tri-ad lock knives, and a couple have been very stiff out of the box. However after a few weeks of handling they break in well, the knife opens and closes smoothly while still retaining an incredibly strong lockup. As to the lack of textured grip, I was a little worried about that, but holding the knife in my hand, I think it´s fine. When you hold this knife in hammer grip, as I would in a self-defense situation, it feels just as secure as my Recon 1. The handle shape is great, the choil is pronounced, and with my fingers wrapped around it in hammer grip I don´t feel like the knife is going anywhere. All in all another excellent Cold Steel knife, I think this would be a great EDC knife or even a defensive knife for someone who wants something a bit sleeker and less obtrusive in the pocket than a Recon 1 or Voyager.
Kevin cleary Hey Kevin nice to see you hear. 2 of my favouite knife reviewers. Just wanted to know what you think I should get the spear point or the tanto. Thanks.
finally bought it! i prefer the ffg clip point on my voyagers (all sizes), and the tanto ony the mini tac, so this spear point is a blade shape i haven't had in my cs collection yet. bad timing cash flow-wise, but thanks anyway for showing this pearl of a knife again and reminding me how much i adore it. you sir, are much too persuasive (i love my black alox minichamp btw lol) cold steel - the glocks/AKs of the knife world and i now first notices the hidden pivot on the ss endura. crazy how long that too me :)
I have tanto version and it requires a lot of pressure to release the lock. Maybe because it's new and has to wear a bit... Opening is very smooth, it's feels pleasant in hand despite size.
hey Izzy have wanted a code 4 tanto plain edge for ages nice knife i had a cold steel drop point folder with a san mai blade in the 1980s always wanted another - by the way i ended up with a CRKT m16-14sfg with the VEFF serrations they work really well best ever for serrations and what a really nice all around knife great video as always -cheers from southern Ontario
Bought this knife and like it very much, but my Recon1 spear point is still my EDC and my favorite go to knife. I am already saving for the 4 max. That looks like the perfect knife for me :)
I was just wondering about this folder. Specially de Tanto version. For Defence use. I Have the CS counter point 4 inch for defence, after a good review you did. In 3 days Kershaw Bear Hunter is arriving. You recomend it for defence use. I think you are just right with these 3 knifes
The Patriot Medic Yeah I had a Recon 1 with the same issue, Tri-Ad locks can occasionally require a lot of force, or to push it wayyy far down, before it will release.
I would love this as an edc knife, really like the blade shape and how thin it is. Only downside for me would be that it can be a little tricky to get pocket lint out of the knife after a while :-)
I own this knife and love it! I'm with you, I prefer spear points and drop points. Its just personal preference. I just ordered the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter as well. Any plans on reviewing it?
Milligan Thirteen The Ultimate Hunter looks pretty cool, no plans on reviewing it yet, now that they are using the new steel, the prices have gone up, so I gotta budgetize between all their new offerrings.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives I went ''just today'' with a American Lawman, instead. Although I am a aluminum fan. My 26' is all heavy welded aluminum. Very hard decision. Wanted AD-10 the 4MAX's litl brother, actually, but again a good amount of $$ on ebay for a new one. So the lawman will be in my hands tomorrow. A smaller, but capable EDC for when I don't need my monster 4 MAX. KEEP IT UP brother...I watch 99% of all your vids. (get a max, for your collection, there's nothing much that comes close...!)
To me this is a large gentlemen's knife. I prefer not to recommend a single knife when people in law enforcement, military, or other emergency services, or people who want a knife to be used in emergency situations ask. I do however try to point them in a general direction and give them reasonable guidelines like; Needs both a tractionable handle shape and a grippy texturing. Not only is this very essential for holding onto the knife while using it in wet, bloody, muddy, sweaty, cold, or other compromising conditions, it is also key to being able to quickly remove the knife from your pocket in a stressful environment(at which the aforementioned conditions may also be present). I also must be almost effortless to open(NO TRI-AD LOCK WITH THUMB STUDS). It's just too clumsy and there's a high risk of slipping off the thumb stud under duress and closing back on the fingers instead(seen it happen more than once). So if the retention pressure remains to a point at which you can fit fingers between the blade and handle, I tell them to avoid it. And as I said, I generally prefer not to recommend any one knife, but when it can't be avoided I almost always go with the Manix line from Spyderco. Especially in the roll assigned to the Code 4 by Cold Steel.
WeAllJuggleKnives Even though I cut myself I am not sad because I learned a valuable lesson with a small cut to the thumb. I am employing this Ganzo in a self defense role so I could have cut myself trying to flick it open in a self defense situation or have guillotined my fingers later.
Jawnboi I don't Know exactly what happened because it was very fast. I was fondling my Ganzo G727 and still haven't adjusted the pivot because I did not have yet a torx set. I tried to open it fast, the blade went half path, my finger went below and I made a nasty cut to my finger. It was very fast. I was trying to flick it open. So basically listen to WAJK when he say you shouldn't try to flick a folder with Tri-Ad lock or any stiff folder. Now the Ganzo is pretty smooth because I adjusted the pivot. That's why I am starting to consider other locks because the other options are way smoother than the Tri-Ad lock.
A little too much emphasis on the self defense aspect unless you're military/law enforcement. There are many bigger, better blades out there for that. This is an edc that does everything pretty well. Slim, relatively light, decent size blade, smooth for easy in and out of pocket, handle shaped for a good grip, killer lock and now with a great new steel.
+WeAllJuggleKnives I think this knife is knife is their move to another market niche. If someone asks for a knife to open a package and I pull out my old recon 1 (axis lock) people gasp. Obviously most people are not knife people. If I pull out my code 4 I usually get a 'wow, nice knife'. Like their Finn wolf, aimed at another market segment.
+Michael Demers Yeah, that's why I carry my lone star hunter, along with my gnarly XL serrated Hold Out or talwar. The lone star looks like a biggish buck knife or a blade that a grandpa would own, and doesn't look scary and "weapony" like my bigger cs folders. The sheepdog doesn't hate/despise the sheep, and I try not to scare people if I can at all help it. Though, that same 4" lone star hunter would be an absolutely nasty SD blade... Kitchen knives and plain-jane hunting knives generally scare me more than "tacticool" knives.... People who buy/own/use nicer tactical style and martial arts blades aren't generally the ones going out and murdering people. But most people don't know that, or care.
Cut myself 3 times in the 2 days I’ve own this knife. First 2 were minor. I guillotined my right index finger on the third time. And yes, the blade is very sharp! No stitches needed but it was a deep gash. Be very careful closing this knife!
This is my every day carry in the Tanto blade. Love it. Thanks for the review!

Kevin cleary Hey Kevin nice to see you hear. 2 of my favouite knife reviewers. Just wanted to know what you think I should get the spear point or the tanto. Thanks.
YEAH, WeAllJuggleKnives actually goes outside and beats knives! (get out of the cubical)
I think especially the spear point is gorgeous. Just a really pretty knife, plus there's tactical merit to it.

cold steel - the glocks/AKs of the knife world
and i now first notices the hidden pivot on the ss endura. crazy how long that too me :)
I bought the tanto and the spearpoint and find them strong and nice looking for a fair price , greatings from the Netherlands ,
Robert 30-06 which is better spear or tanto
I have tanto version and it requires a lot of pressure to release the lock. Maybe because it's new and has to wear a bit... Opening is very smooth, it's feels pleasant in hand despite size.

Nice knife. They have these in CTS-XHP now, but I'm sure that you already have that knife as well. I have the AUS-8 and the CTS model. Both are great.
It's easily a last ditch self-defense tool. Would you choose the recon over the code 4 ?
Bought this knife and like it very much, but my Recon1 spear point is still my EDC and my favorite go to knife. I am already saving for the 4 max. That looks like the perfect knife for me :)
I'll probably get the code 4 clip point or the mini recon clip point in the new steel when I get a chance.
I was just wondering about this folder. Specially de Tanto version. For Defence use.
I Have the CS counter point 4 inch for defence, after a good review you did.

Polimorfos Nuclear - Awesome. Love the Bear Hunter, I made a pocket sheath for mine.
Great video. Durability which is better Code 4 or Recon 1 ?.
Classy looking knife, but I'm hesitant about the lock back release. I have a Counterpoint that is very finicky a lot of the time.
The Patriot Medic Yeah I had a Recon 1 with the same issue, Tri-Ad locks can occasionally require a lot of force, or to push it wayyy far down, before it will release.

Cool looking blade and a very informative review.
Maxim Sokol Thanks, Max!
Nice knife. I have not seen this model before.
I own this knife and love it! I'm with you, I prefer spear points and drop points. Its just personal preference. I just ordered the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter as well. Any plans on reviewing it?

True, I'm in the same boat. My wife is getting pissed at my knife collecting. haha Hoping for a nice tax return! Thanks for your awesome work!
Have you had any experience with the new carpenter steel Cold Steel is using on their new blades? How does it compare to Cold Steel's AUS 8?
Tony Hayeck It's supposed to be a lot better, I have a Spyderco that uses the carpenter steel, I haven't stress tested it though.
all knives can be used as a defensive blade against a crackhead in a walmart parking lot.Its a aluminum handles spear point recon
But Dave, what if the crackhead had a very disadvantaged childhood, doesn't he deserve mints and kisses instead? LOL.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Now dats funny....don't care who ya are!
Held this knife in hand and I must say it is a testament to the BS that is textured grips. It's all in the handle shape and this knife gets it right.
What is your opinion of the clip point in the same model ?
what do you think clip point recon 1 or spear point ? clip point looks very cool put the tip is less strong i guess^^
The clip point on the Recon 1 is more pointy than on the Code 4 so I like it a bit better for the Recon 1.
A complement to my bad azz 4-max.......now in carpenters cts xhp alloy, in 2018-19.
The 4-Max is extremely tempting, I've been eyeing one for a while.

great review brother
the new one will be in CTS XHP, not XPS. XPS was a dell line of computers lol.
Excellent review!

Always thought my recon 1 and the code 4 clip points looked a lot alike
Great review, thank you!
10 minutes ago I learned the hard way that you shall not try flick a folder with a stiff lock. The folder I was trying to flick was a Ganzo G727M.
+PowerMadHeadBanger I never flick open any of my Tri-Ad Lock folders, I know too many people whose Spartan guillotined them!

I'm curios, what actually happened specifically?

I see, I'll keep that in mind.
Keeping it real ! (Shank)😂
For sure, I've made a few shanks in my day. I was not in prison, I just made them as throwing knives, but they are shanks nonetheless :]

Nope
Wtf
