I very recently let a hive grow in my current playthrough, playing as a somewhat Raider-esque colony, fortified with turrets and mercenaries. I let a hive grow to at least 160 insects at the edge of the map, made things pretty tense, the walls were finished but not the defenses, but thanks to numerous raids(both perpetrated and defended from) my colony ammased a fine arsenal or advanced armor and weapons.
Then randy pushed in a raid, sieging pirates, at least 30 of them. They shelled the colony and the hive, enraged the insects and were promptly decimated by them, the defenses held on, for a whille, but the walls were falling quicker than we could repair them.
Then guess who tossed in another raid not even 24hrs later? Randy tossed in a whoping 83 tribespeopple raid. The neolithinc idiots charged at the insects with, surprising efficiency, but more stuff still counters less stuff, so the insects, despite their numbers having dwindled so heavily, won vs the tribals, luckily, the tribal raid was exactly what we needed to survive, the walls fell, and the insects got in, but their numbers had been diminished enough for my warriors to take them.
I dispatched a S&D party to clean the hives... and the aftermatch... well... the whole map was a mess... Like... comparable to those moments where you save your game, boot up the dev mode and start spawning lots and lots of raids to watch them wage massive fights just for fun? Well, it was like that. There were so many bodies, soo many bodies everywhere...

@@MrLogan2600 The ammount of mental breaks that repairs and clean up jobs caused was incredible XD
I lost a colonist and all but two animals(had 18 colonists and 13 animals prior to the hive event) so everyone was quite miserable for weeks lol.
I suppose I counted (thanks to the AllowTool mod) at least 90-something humanlike casualties and over 160 insects.

the worst is when you know you don't have the manpower to kill the few that spawn, and you watch them reproduce in the mines, slowly but surely
I had a boreal forest, rich explorer playthrough that had few hives. Without any food at night I had to scavenge insect jelly without waking up the insects to survive

@@liamquraeshi2898 If you do it while they're sleeping, you're fine. Provided you can actually move to the jelly without stepping on them. They get real mad if you wake them up.

Mate this is some 10 out of 10 narration as well as a pinch of roleplay mixed with rimworld I hope to see more of this as it is incredibly rare to find (in my opinion) rimworld roleplay and top notch narration.
I'm wondering how you got statues that match the colonists looks. Making memorials for colonists that died being a badass is one of the highlights of a run. Also like the video format. Its alot easier to stomach a 10 minute short story then a 10 hour long letsplay.

Androids or Android tiers. There are a few other but those are the two I use.
As a player that love digging mountain and make base inside the mountain I can say that more insect equal more Chemfuel.
This might happen if you have mods called fog of war, area that rarely being visited will have shroud covering them.

Well done video man, very cool. Tynan himself said Rimworld is not so much a game, as it is a story generator, so this is the logical output. I'm sure he would be proud too if he sees this.
I once was breeding Insectoids on purpose inside of a cave, by making it the only open path that leads to the base entrance is through the Hive, so any raid that comes by they're slaughtered by the hive and if they're breeding too much we just seal the cave made of Granite from both sides and turn it into a giant oven by burning some furnitures.
This is some of the most well made and epic shit I've ever seen coming out of Rimworld! Bravo!

Once had a tribal hoards of 50 rush my 6 man colony. 2 stayed behind to slow the advance while the others prepared a caravan to flee. We had muskets and flintlocks (intentional choice, a playthrough where it's a post medival period)

I remember having mech ride with like 50 scyters right after mech cluster. My defenses were end game at that moment with end of the line charge railgun 2x2 turrets. But then the unthinkable happened, tribespeople attacked the colony but ended up waking the cluster and baiting scyters onto themselves. Terror blood and missery of being slaughtered with auto kinfes fron their perspective looked really weird for my colonists. After 2 sides bled out the remaining mechs rushed towards the railguns leaving half the map in blood for me to clean up

There's a guy, ambiguosamphibian, which let his last colony get overrun by 80+ insects passing through his "killbox".
Edit: as in, he let them throug the killbox wich was just a short corridor AND DIDN'T EVEN SHOOT.

I used to have a hollow mountain i'd store chemfuel in. Every so often insectoids would spawn and I'd send my least favorite colonist in with a flamethrower.
i used a tactic called "Ovens" that I used to eradicate the bugs AKA burning their hives down with flamthrowers
I’ll be honest, this made me absolutely desperate for a Rimworld anime with this as a season (or series) ending arc.
I accepted a colonist who was being chased but didnt say by what
A couple weeks later he confessed that he was being chased by insects
My base got a 60 hive and ~120 spider infestation
Lets just say it didnt end well for me

At 5:33 you fucking blew my mind. That is some creative wall building to enclose the bugs. I'll use that in the future. Fucking hell, I got 2000 hours in the game and never thought of that.

I dealt with a infestation that size before, all it cost me is some brain damage to my trumbo, which was caused by my own grenade.

Situations like this is why I play with SRTS Planes and bombs, few hundred bugs you say? Napalm bombs are the way to go.
Live that fun VietRim experience while you bomb the crap out of some insects napalm draped from your F-4.
One small correction, you say that Megascarabs are the size of Beetles when they are actually much larger than a standard Beetle. Hence the "Mega" in their name
P.S. Also you said they were weak, my beetle army would like to disagree lol
