Rest in Peace Larry... Had the pleasure of taking 2 years of lessons with him with a group of other guys. I wish I just wasn't a dumb 8th grader when I was, should have took proper notes!
For weirdos like myself, I think he's playing a Selmer Balanced Action, not a Super Action. In either case, it is one of the first saxes with great ergonomics. It was made between 1937 and 1953.
Put it on 25% speed, or pause intermittently, and take it down on manuscript paper. That in itself is a learning experience. Then practice playing it without the sheet music, slowly at first. Notes and rhythm first; speed later. For (a lot) of extra credit, do it in 12 keys.
One if the greatest differentials between fame and ability there’s ever been. RIP Maestro McKenna
Larry Leaps in lol
I was proud of that one 🤣
The amount of quoting happening while still managing to flow smooth is insane
Holy frick this is fantastic! Swing improv master class in under 2 minutes.

Dang! So lyical and form-fitting.
I've been transcribing this solo during this summer, thanks Larry for your enormous knowledge and sensitiveness at playing. 🙏🙏 Rest in peace
Man I miss Larry
Rip maestro
Larry the boss
so beautiful... thanks for sharing
Wonderful 😎
Thanks for that analysis 👍
I felt it
The difference between swinging and playing lines - young platers take note this is how you do it.

instead of doing a smooth playback can you show the music line by line? it's hard to read like this

Nice tenor but when comes the "stunning" solo ?????
Then you have to sit through the most white washed trumpet solo 😭
Gee. Who knew Donald Drumpf could play sax! Oh, wait-that's not him, is it?
Great solo. Creativity is ageless. Check out Rusty Higgins and Pete Christlieb on tenor and Ron Stout on trumpet all from LA.
This is a good solo…. However nothing special and certainly nothing havent sen dozen of other players to just as well
