Interesting talk. However when the question of the Chola’s religion came up the hesitancy to say it was from Vedam, Veda or Sanatana Dharma which was practiced throughout Bharat is an insult to the Cholas. Also when commenting on the life of the average person during the early rule of these Kingdoms the pure speculation that people were not taken care off is revealing of the conscious or subconscious bias’s Sir has. A Raja’s prime duty per Sanatana Dharma is his people. Maybe it is the long Marxists influence in the South, which wanted to destroy native faith and governance systems over many decades, but I got the impression at times from various comments Sir made that he has some disdain for the Hindu cultural and religious heritage of the South. Or it could be just a result of long exposure to incorrect narratives that Sir is unknowingly expressing himself in such ways.
      Other than that interesting talk

I am not a history student but still I can tell about Tamilnadu history more than him. He is telling only wine was imported from Rome. Glass, Gold were the main items. Exports include spices, animals like tiger, elephant, leopard ete, muslin, germs. The Greek and Arabic names for rice (Oryza and urz), ginger(Gingibar and zanjabil) and cinnamon (Karpion and quarfa) are almost identical with their Tamil names, arisi, inchiver and karuva. When Pallava were ruling , Pandiyas also were ruling in the south. Only Cholas were vessels of Kanchipuram. During Gupta period , Samudra Gupta came upto Kanchi when early Pallava king Vishnugopa was ruling..

  • @chidmb
    @chidmb ปีที่แล้ว +10

In my view the main reason for the ancient Tamilagam being so rich is because of its position in the Indian Ocean region. Many of the Transit ports of the Ancient world, especially the ones between Greece and China were situated in the Tamil regions of South India. There are historical records and Artifacts which confirm the fact that Foreigners were a common site back then and there are enough archeological evidence of Greek colonies in various parts of Tamilnadu (Probably created by the Greek Sea farers and traders of that time). So it is Trade that enriched the region in addition to being an agrarian society. There is an ancient saying in tamil 'Thiraikadal odi Thiraviyam thedu' which translates to 'Surf the seas to earn the fruit called wealth' which aptly reflects the outlook of the Tamil Society. Even the Chola conquest of Srivijaya was due to the fact that the king of Srivijaya was disgruntled by the Cholas controlling the trade and taking away the earnings that could otherwise come to his kingdom. He therefore created frequent disturbances to the Tamil Merchant groups and their Ships carrying valuables to China and Vice versa! The gentle man here missed this crucial part.

The origins of Chola kings of Tamil lands mentioned in the copper plates unearthed in a place called Thiruvalangadu about 100 years ago gives common ancestry to Cholas with Ikshvahus until the time Mandhaata.
After Mandhaata there was a division. In the Ikshvaku dynasty, only the eldest son ascended the throne.
The other children of the king had ruled other parts or had founded their own dynasties. King Sibi had come in the lineage of siblings.
In Sibi’s lineage, king Cholavarman came who founded the Chola kingdom. This information is found in the copper plates.
A famous Vedic king was associated with Swat region. He was none other than King Sibi (Sivi) who offered his flesh to a hawk to save a pigeon. In his book, ‘Ancient Geography of India’, Cunningham quotes Hwen Thsang that “the legend of ‘the hawk and the pigeon’ in which Buddha, to save a pigeon tears his own flesh and offers to hawk” occurred in the region of Swat. He also quotes Fa-Hian as saying “that Buddha was then a king named Shi-pi-ka or Sivika”. The name, Bodhibhavana during Ramayana times reinforces the presence of ascetics and others immersed in Knowledge and salvation in this region of Swat.
Sibi was originally a king of Vedic culture, born to Madhavi, the daughter of King Yayati. His father was Usinara. In an amazing correlation, Swat River that starts at Kalam is joined by two rivers one of them known by name ‘Ushu’! The phonetic similarity with Usinara cannot be ignored.
Mahabharata recounts this legend of King Sibi at many places (MB:3:196, 3;207, 13:32, 13:67 &14:90). At one place he is said to be the king of Kasi (Mahabharata 13-32). But as with siblings and cousins, Sibi must have sought a place for himself away from ancestral roots and had chosen the region at the commencement of Swat, then known as Ikshumati! His descendants occupied the entire region of River Sindhu in due course taking up various names as Sivi, Saibya, Sauvira and so on. The lesser known name is ‘Sembiya’ which the Cholas of Tamil lands held for themselves. It is from the genealogy of Cholas, we come to know that Sibi was an ancestor of Rama!
Sibi as ancestor of Rama and Cholas.
The genealogy of Cholas is found in the copper plates of Thiruvalangadu. It traces the origin of Cholas from the Solar dynasty of the Ikshvakus and continued with the same names of Rama’s genealogy till Mandhata. After Mandhata a divergence comes. In Rama’s genealogy, Susandhi takes over the reign from him. (Valmiki Ramayana 1.70.26). In Chola’s genealogy, Muchukunda’s name appears after Mandhata and continues with Vallabha, Prithulaksha and others till Bharata. Cholavarma, one of the sons of Bharata founded the Chola race in the Chola country.
Only the eldest son came to the Ikshvaku throne. This explains why the genealogy diverged after Mandhata. Sibi came in the lineage of Muchukunda, the sibling to the king of Ayodhya.
The Cholas were proud of their lineage from Sibi and called themselves as ‘Sembiyan’ - a derivative from Sibi. This was mentioned at several places in Sangam literature and to name a few in Puram 37 and 39. The information not known to outside world is thatRama also was considered as an ancestor of the Cholas.
Though there is no direct mention of the name as Rama (so also with Sibi, as that name was never mentioned in the verses but only through an allusion to the legend of hawk and the pigeon), the reference to him is found mentioned along with Sibi. Rama’s name was indicated by the reference to the destruction of Ravana’s city, signified as “thoongeyil” - the fortress that was hanging from the sky - a reference to its location on a mountain touching the clouds. It appeared as though Ravana’s city was hanging down from the clouds. Allusion to Rama as the destroyer of “thoongeyil” is mentioned inPurananuru - 39, Siripaanaattru-padai - 79-82, Pazhamozhi - 49, Silappadhikaram - 29-16-4/5, Manimegalai - 1-4, Kalingatthu-p-paraNi - Raja - 17, Raja raja Chozhan vula - 13, Vikrama Chozhan vula 8-9.
With the Tamil chronicles establishing Rama along with Sibi in the same lineage, the verse in Ramayana on ancestors of Rama in the city watered by river Ikshumati could only be an allusion to Sibi.

@@skyquestmani According to Purāṇas and Tamil sources, Chola was a brother of Pāndya. Evidently, ancient Cholas were the descendants of the Puru or
Chandra dynasty. Later, the Chola dynasty of Tamil Nadu had been mixed up with the Ikśvāku kings of Andhra. Thus, many Telugu Chola lineages (Velanati, Renati, Pottapi, Mudigonda and more) came into existence. This may be the reason why the later Cholas claim their origin from Sūrya Vaṁśa. @@skyquestmani The Chronology of Cholas
According to Manimekhalai and Tamil legends, Kāveri River was
released from his water vessel (Kamandal) by Rishi Agastya in response to the prayer of Chola King Kantan, or Kantaman. Kalingattuparani and
Vikramacholan Ula indicate that King Kantan was the earliest known
king of Cholas and a contemporary of Rishi Agastya and Paraśurāma.
He was also a contemporary of King Tondaiman. The legends of Vada
Thirumullaivayil indicate that King Tondaiman was a junior contemporary of Śiva and Murugan. King Kantan gave his kingdom to his illegitimate son, Kakandan, in order to escape from Paraśurāma.
Kakandan ruled from the city of Champā, which came to be known as Kākandi, Puhar and Kaveripattanam. Sangam literature refers to another Chola king, Tungeyilerinda Todittot Sembian, a descendant of Śivi, who destroyed the forts of Asuras. He started the celebration of Indra festival for twenty-eight days at the instance of Rishi Agastya (a descendant of Agastya).
The Rāmāyaṇa refers to the kingdom of Cholas. Therefore, it is
chronologically absurd to establish King Chola as a descendant of Sri
Rāma. Seemingly, the Chandra Vaṁśa of the Cholas and the Sūrya Vaṁśa of the descendants of King Aśmaka or King Danḍaka were mixed up after the Rāmāyaṇa era.
Traditionally, the Cholas had three surnames: Killi, Valavan and
Sembian. According to Vīracholīyam, Sembian means a descendant of King Śivi. Probably, Sembians or descendants of Śivi also settled in Tamil Nadu and became a lineage of Cholas, being Chandra Vaṁśis. Ancient Tamil sources mention the names of 122 Chola kings who reigned around 5000-1020 BCE.
Before the rise of Vijayālaya (150-180 CE), the lineage of Muttarayar ruled in Tanjavur. The city of Tanjavur was the capital of Muttarayar kings. The name of Tanjavur city is derived from the name of Tananjaya (Dhanañjaya or Arjuna). It is traditionally believed that Muttarayars came from North. Seemingly, Sūrya Vaṁśi Cholas of Andhra Pradesh, known as Muttarayar, occupied the Chola Kingdom around 600-500 BCE as allies of the Pallavas. Vijayālaya, a descendant of another branch of Cholas, conquered the Chola Kingdom from Elango Muttarayar, the last king of the Muttarayar dynasty.

After it is been destroyed by tsunami these regions are under sea. Then they shifted capital to Madurai which is currently there. On there 3rd sangam happened. The Chola kings of the past were known for their secular outlook, as they encouraged both Shaivism and Vaishnavism. In what is now Bangalore, they left a lasting legacy by constructing temples and lakes. Examples include the Someshwar temple in Ulsoor dedicated to Shiva, and the Chokkanathaswamy temple in Domlur dedicated to Vishnu, both situated on the banks of the South Pennar River, known as Dakshina Pinakini in Kannada or Thenpennai/Ponnaiyar in Tamil.
Moreover, the Cholas undertook extensive lake dredging efforts in the region, rejuvenating water bodies such as Agara Lake, Madivala Lake, Bellandur Lake, Ulsoor Lake, and Varthur Lakes. Many temples they constructed around these lakes still stand today, serving as a testament to their influence.
Notably, tamarind trees planted during the time of the great Rajendra Chola continue to thrive in Nelur, marking a unique bioheritage site. The Cholas have left their mark throughout the area, and their contributions remain part of the region's historical and cultural landscape.

Well I don't know from where you got your history mate but Bengaluru was not under the control of Chola's for long time Bengaluru was ruled by Ganga Dynasty between 350 ce to 1000ce and they were under Chalukya's and Rashtrakuta's and they fought Chola's throughout their existence and defeated many chola's king in war and they in the end met their end in a skirmish between Chola and Ganga's and the someshwara temple was built by Chalukya's not Chola's
Madivala Lake is a natural lake, and its creation is not attributed to a specific individual or group. The lake has undergone transformations and improvements over the years, with recent efforts to develop it into a biodiversity park. However, the original formation of the lake is a natural occurrence.
Ulsoor Lake, also known as Halasuru Lake, was created by Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring, the then Commissioner of Bangalore. Although the lake is dated to Kempe Gowda’s time, the present lake was created by Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring during his period of service.
Varthur Lake was created by the Ganga kings thousands of years ago for agriculture and domestic uses.

Hii ranveer bhaiya plz bring back Rajrishy Nandy Sir, and ask him the following questions-:
    1. How does one figure out the best suited practice and deity for them besides their preference.
    2. What practices in our religion differ wrt men and women
    To give you an example
    a) The Devya kavacham that is done alongside Durga saptashati has a verse for protection of the doer's wife does that mean women/ girls can't do that.
    b) The Argala stotram also done alongside Durga saptashati, it's 24 th shlok talks about the doer's wife again. The ending of Argala stotram also promises boon in masculine gender, i.e., nar
Does that mean that females can't do these things .
Where as the 32 names promises that for everyone, i.e., manushya
(I AM NOT A PSEUDO FEMINIST THESE ARE MY GENUINE DOUBTS PLZ CONSIDER THEM)
    c) Similarly Rajarishy Nandi sir prescribes a 30-40 days sankalpa for siddha kunjika stotram but for quite obvious reasons most females
Can't do it, any substitute for us.
    3. Another question regarding siddha kunjika stotram. It contains a mantra which is some kind of expanded version of maa Durga's very famous Navarna mantra in the version of it that I read.
But the I found another mantra in siddha kunjika stotram on TH-cam itself, the name of the channel is Debashish chakraborty.
    5. Last, which practices actually differ for males and females in our religion (I mean I know that these differences are genuine).
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Plz consider this humble request bhaiya.

      @palavbhiva ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sister, I have tried to answer your questions as per my understanding in tantra practices. I hope, it will help to solve all ur doubts.
      Answer to ur 1st question:
Sometimes it is difficult to figure out deity or ishta devta for many people. It is always advised to have ishta devta as per one's 1) Own Nature and 2) Life Aims. Mainly deities are of two types - saumya and ugra. YOU SHOULD IDENTIFY DEITY SUITED TO YOUR NATURE.
Mahakali, all Kali kula devis from Dasha Mahavidyas and all Bhairavs etc. are ugra devtas,
Whereas Vishnu and his incarnations like Ram-Krishna, Mahadev, Ganpati and all Shri kula devis from dasha mahavidyas are generally saumya devtas unless you are praying to their ugra form in tantra.
Each devta has unique characteristics like Maha Saraswati is for Vidya (Knowledge), Maha Laxmi and Vishnu for Sampatti (Wealth), Maha Kali for ultimate moksha (salvation), Ganapati for Wisdom, Hanuman for strength, Surya for developing tejas , Mahadev for getting rid of ego and so on. YOU SHOULD IDENTIFY YOUR LIFE'S GOALS AND ACCORDINGLY HAVE YOUR ISHTA DEVTA. Our scriptures advise us to pray only those deities which are capable of providing MOKSHA. This way, along with accomplishment of life's goals, you may achieve moksha in the end. Only pancha devtas (five deities) and their incarnations are capable of giving us moksha along with fullfillment of our life's goals. These are Bhagwan Vishnu, Bhagwan Mahadev, Bhagwan Ganapati, Devi Bhagwati and Bhagwan Surya. The best possible way to find out all about these deities and their qualities is to read Purana related to specific pancha devta like Bhagwatam for Vishnu, Shiva Purana for Mahadev, Devi Bhagwatam for any devi worship etc. So that you get to know about each deity and develop a sense of closeness to pick one as your ishta devta.
      Answer to ur 2nd question:
First of all, before starting any sadhana/practice specially related to tantra. You should have proper Guru who is well established in tantra practices otherwise don't go for it by reading tantra books or internet surfing.
As far as I know, devi kavacham and argala stotram are not just literal words with meaning. They are sounds encoded with particular ENERGIES by Lord Brahma with the benediction of Bhagwati to receive benefits for various purposes. Energy takes it's form according to sadhakas "THOUGHTS" in mind with continuous repetitions. Both male and female can read Kavacham and Argala stotram as per my guru. Only bhava (भाव) i.e. thoughts in mind are important. Like in Kavacham, it reads "bhaaryaam rakshatu bhairavi" (भार्यां रक्षतु भैरवी) then you should imagine praying to devi for the protection of your male partner.
When a sadhika (female sadhak) takes sankalp for 31 days, during the menstrual cycle - days of sadhana are extended further to 5 days i.e. from 31 days it becomes 36 days. You should take a gap of 5 days and carry on further during menstrual cycle. Only a small prayer (क्षमा प्रार्थना) in your mother tongue should be conveyed to deity for the reasons in delaying your sadhana further. As you said, sankalp is never taken for 30 or 40 days. It is taken in odd numbers like 1,5,7,9,11,21,31,41,51 and so on.
      Answer to ur 3rd question:
In tantra, there are many different versions of siddha kunjika stotram for different purposes like as per 1)Rudrayamala Tantra 2)Damar Tantra etc. Some are lost through history. You found different expanded versions of navarna mantra because of that. Siddha Kunjika Stotram given in Durga Saptashati is recommended for general public. Don't go for other versions without proper guru's guidance.

If u can ask precise question, I could answer more effectively about ur doubt.
There are no such differences I find in tantra for male and female sadhak. Except if u r doing a sadhana for pratyakshikaran siddhi (real time manifestation of any deity) (प्रत्यक्षीकरण सिद्धी). When manifestation takes place after successful completion of ur sadhana and deity is happy, a sadhak is asked to set up a relation between deity and him. There u can have siddhi of any male deity as your father, brother, husband or friend and in case of female deity, it is mother, sister or friend. In case of male sadhak, the relation is either wife, mother, sister or friend for any female deity. U can have this type of siddhi only for nimna koti (निम्न कोटि) devtas like apsara, yakshini, gandharva, kinnari, bhairav or bhairavi sadhana. Mahashaktis like Durga, Laxmi, Vishnu, Ganesh etc. do not manifest so easily. Never take sankalp for such deity's pratyakshikaran siddhi. Sadhak has to go through lots of dangerous situations in such cases.
