    When I listen to Lewis Grizzard, Jerry Clower, Wendy Bagwell, Tim Wilson, Justin Wilson, Charlie Douglas, James Gregory, or Jeff Foxworthy...THESE GREAT SOUTHERN COMICS ALWAYS MAKE ME EXTREMELY PROUD TO BE FROM THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH!!!
    Much love from Mobile Alabama.

    One of the best things my dad did for me as a kid was to read Gizzards column to him. For one, it's what helped improve my reading, sharpen my love for the bulldogs, my love of the South, but also taught me the value of humor. Grizzard was reason enough back then to subscribe to the AJC. Today, as a father, I look for people to help shape my children. Unfortunately, it's been all but impossible find someone like Grizzard for my own kids. The best I've found is old Grizzard content like this video and old articles.

    I've been a fan of this fellow ever since I first read his column back in the 70's.
    Now have been blessed to share the same grand nephew, his niece and my nephew.

      I'm from, and still in, southern Ohio, but I'm also an honorary Georgian because I've lived down there so many times.
      I kinda go back and forth. Lol.
      I realized after listening to this one that yanks wouldn't get the parts about Georgia tech. They wouldn't know that was part of the joke.
      How sad their lives must be? Lol

    I remember somebody interviewing Lewis Grizzard after his heart surgery. He said that after he had that pig heart valve put in, every time he saw barbecue pork, tears came to his eyes.

    Oh this fella was soo funny. Used to see him in a quiet corner at the "Varsity" eating some of the best greasy onion rings in the world. Miss his corner in the Atlanta Journal as well as these comedy acts.

      @sylviaross5486 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SoloLdy Yeah, unfortunately, those greasy onion rings are one reason why he had to have that pig heart valve installed.

    Was this a rip-off of Ray Stevens or did Ray Stevens rip this off for Aint Sittin Up With The Dead?

    • @onthesideofright9755
      @onthesideofright9755 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be either or neither. Sitting up with the dead was a custom in the South. People would also sit at the grave (graveyard shift) to make sure the person being buried was actually dead. There were some who tied a string with a bell on the hand in case he woke up and needed to be dug up.
      Or so I'm told. 🤷‍♀️

      They were both comedic geniuses, so they may have influenced each other, but neither of them stole anything from the other.
