I never missed his columns. Lewis Grizzard is one of the reasons I fell in love with writing and the South. He'd probably think I was a Yankee, though. I grew up in Virginia and Tennessee.
Thanks for sharing this. Lewis Grizzard wrote some very good books and his sense of humor help keep him ''going''.. Also used to read the things he wrote in the news paper. He is missed but if there is a heaven he is probably maken them laugh up there.
Was about 8 years old when my friends father would play his 8 tracks while we were goin over to the lumber yard to get stuff for the next project for around the house.
If you listen to Jerry Clower, Lewis Grizzard, Jeff Foxworthy, Rodney Carrington, and probaby a few others, you will here a lot of repeated material. Clower was the OG of this southern style humor. But I am sure even some of his stuff was ripped off from somebody else.
Am glad you posted this.. Lewis Grizzard was one of my favorite Humorist and author. He died way to soon. R.I.P. Lewis.
Glorious comedian. Love that he was able to work clean and keep it classy.
RIP Lewis and his Labrador Catfish. He could make you laugh and then make you cry and then make you cry laughing.
This guy has me in stitches and i ain't even Southern
Met him a long time ago at a Pro Am of a golf tournament, very nice guy, cared about his fans!!!
He was hilarious, and his humor proved that you don't have to be foul-mouthed to be funny.
I agree.
Lewis is hilarious and proves you don't have to be foul.
yes that was the best thing about it.
GOD BLESS LEWIS GRIZZARD....

Tell it all brotha, tell it all.
Wonder what Lewis would think of what;s going on today about the Confederate statues, etc.
I miss you so much Lewis Grizzard.
He would hate it.
I think I vaguely knew that he died, but I saw at Wikipedia that he died March 20, 1994. I didn't realize it was over 25 years, though!
At 3:57, he mentioned Ernest Angley, who is still living at 97 as of May 9, 2019.
Rev. Angley is totally cool.
He is dead now. 💀
I loved him.

I've heard the "The Lord will take care of me" line before.
That "The Lord will take care of me" joke was also told by Jerry Clower. Wonder who told it first.....
Its a common joke in the south.
I do believe Jerry was older than Lewis.
One of the greats .clean humor very funny. Not vindictive either

Oh hell, Fanny....
Lewis Grizzard is funny. Just heard him for the first time.
He talks just like I'd expect after reading almost all his books.
Wonderful. The best
I fully agree
Using an old Brother Dave joke. Goodness.
Trying to translate Lewis Grizzard's books into Spanish, is like trying to translate Gabriel García Márquez into English. It don't work.
I heard a stolen joke what done by Rodney carrington here...
The joke where the guy did it with a goat was repeated by Rodney Carrington.
The new version has the preacher sayin "Brother, the mosque is down the street."😜

I’ll be god damned Rodney Carrington stoke that joke about the goat
Wassamatter Felix? Y'all can't talk rite?
Bro. Dave wants his joke back! But he's an easygoin cat got his own thing goin etc.
He kept referring to "baw" games when speaking about baseball. Is this a tragic regional consonant loss or a speech defect?
Six years too late but fuck it,it's just his accent
I dare say the heavy southern accent may be different enough from normal English to be considered a separate language.
It's the proper way to pronounce the English language.
It’s done for effect and purpose.

I loved to listen to him. Thanks for posting this. I had this recording, but alas I had lost it.
