Yes they were told that and not just the European Jews but even Arab, North African, Central Asian Jews etc. I have seen interviews with Morrocan and Iraqi Jews who said they were told exactly that. I have also seen an interview with an educated Russian man who was placed in an illegal settlement in the West Bank. He had no idea it was illegal until he looked it up he wasn't happy about that. It's sad.

(1) there will be a Palestinian state nearby the Israeli state (Resolution 181)
(2) all the Palestinians who were made refugees by Israel in 1948 will be allowed to return to their original homes. (Resolutions 194,3236)
None of these 2 conditions were fulfilled by Israel to date, thus undermining its own membership

Last week my old football team Bohemians FC of Dublin Ireland played a friendly against the Palestinian team. The old stadium was sold out and full of Palestinian flags and chants for Free Palestine. It was the women's teams playing and Palestine won 2-1. I couldn't have been prouder to have been a former player of this great club. Now today my Taoiseach who's party I have never in my life voted for, made another great gesture that makes me very very proud to be Irish.

There are over a hundred other nations that already have recognized Palestine decades ago. These are the First European ones. Which makes it significant. Don't hold me to that though. I'm not 100% sure if there are any EU nations.

Well, their ancestry is not the problem. The Hebrews haven't existed for thousands of years. Western/European Jews appear to have paternal ancestry from the Middle East, but it's much less so on the mother's side. It is because acts such as this only emboldens the Palestinians and Hamas. They see that the longer they hold out, the more Israel is ostracized on the world stage.

Well the Israeli government has made any peace deal virtually impossible but I hope that region finds a way to live in peace , any future deal must be based on a 2 state solution and both sides must abide by the rules based order and both sides must define clear land and sea borders .
I don't support Hamas or Israel but from a objective point of view , both sides should prevent escalation and agree on a cease-fire and agree on brokered talks and a long term commitment on a peace deal
The United States and the Islamic world have made good progress in terms of supporting Gaza with aid and food and cash but escalation is not an option
