THAT’S what we’re in store for if Trump wins again.
US military veteran here; I can tell you this is absolutely a ridiculous idea and one espoused by comfy idiots who have never seen a day of service. The US military usually makes up about 1-2% of our population. Expanding that to mandatory for fighting age men and women would be in the 10’s of millions upwards to 100mil. Logistically that would be a nightmare, unfeasible, and there is no way in hell our military could make that work. Not to mention the idiots in the GOP aren’t even thinking of the fact that will cost us an ungodly amount in additional social services and military spending. The retirement benefits for everyone who served alone would cripple the VA, and the amount we would shell out in be benefits would be more then the GDP of most countries. Conscripts don’t get retirement benefits . They return to civilian life after serving a certain years . Conscription was mandatory in USA and all European countries and even Japan in both WW 1 and WW 2 and continued almost till 1989 . And not all conscripts are sent to war . Only a selected number are sent . Like in Vietnam war .

The bill also revoked a 19.5% pay increase for our enlisted service members who are currently struggling to find housing for families due to cost, full military housing and/ or condemned military housing and barracks. When i was in high school (NY, nearly 20 years ago) every senior that didn't already have a uni lined up by the second semester was seriously encouraged to take the ASVAB.. by "seriously encouraged" i mean the army recruiter came to my home and talked to my parents trying to get me to take it, the navy & air force recruiters tried too but not as aggressively as the army guy. There was no escaping the ASVAB back then.. at least not in my HS. I did finally take the damn thing, but that honestly just made them come at me harder.. Back when I joined the military. Judges would give problem youths an option; jail time or military service. Most if not all youths picked the military. A lot of them committed crimes or other offenses, which lead to military prison, dishonorable discharges or a general discharge from military service. When some people are forced to do something they don't want to do, it's usually isn't a good out come.
They don’t get paid enough.. there are military families that struggle.. the housing on base has mold.. it’s ridiculous how bad the housing is on base. Give them more money to support their families and maybe they’ll be happy to support their country..
men get registered to selective service anyhow, but if they are not enrolled in a 2yr, 4yr Degree or Trade program, mandatory service should be passed, it will lower crime though
I'm not going to lie, and maybe this is the part of me that is half-Korean, but I am generally in favor of mandatory military service for 2 years, like in Korea. Something is pleasant about the rich kids forced to be in the same rank as the poor kids and everyone forced to do some manual labor. It also teaches you some basic manual labor skills, which I would have appreciated when I was leaving High School. That said, the U.S. Military would probably A) Actually send you off to war regularly and B) Let the rich kids off with a bone spur note from a crooked doctor.
My husband (white collar, top earner) was studying to join the military as an officer. It's been part if his plan for years. But he immediately soured on the idea and threw it out the window after watching this debacle with Israel suddenly pulling our government on a leash. He is willing to serve America with an American government and democracy he trusts to keep us out of unnecessary conflict...but he's definitely not signing up to be cannon fodder for foreign conflict that doesn't benefit us in the least. The war machine is out of control.

Uhhhh....a bill was signed Friday night, Jun 14, 2024, making registration for the Draft mandatory or face punishment. The bill also revoked a 19.5% pay increase for our enlisted service members who are currently struggling to find housing for families due to cost, full military housing and/ or condemned military housing and barracks. Oh and enlisted military families upto atleast E6 are currently on food stamps.....🤨 Why....should anyone serve a military like this? Why......should anyone serve in a military where it's own government will stave them in the back? Vietnam or Afghanistan ring any bells?

How's about offering FREE UNIVERSITY ANYWHERE fees for service? University should be free like it is in Germany anyway. Otherwise, you're not going to get any takers, military service doesn't pay well enough anyway and no one seems to want to look after vets in a real sense and not just saying "I appreciate you". This generation has been screwed over enough by older generations. How easy for a generation that didn't have a "mandatory" service to tell the next generation that they are basically already stealing from that they have to have it!
Make it worth their while to put their lives on hold like that we already have taken too much from my children's generation thank you.
When i was in high school (NY, nearly 20 years ago) every senior that didn't already have a uni lined up by the second semester was seriously encouraged to take the ASVAB.. by "seriously encouraged" i mean the army recruiter came to my home and talked to my parents trying to get me to take it, the navy & air force recruiters tried too but not as aggressively as the army guy. There was no escaping the ASVAB back then.. at least not in my HS. I did finally take the damn thing, but that honestly just made them come at me harder..

Back when I joined the military. Judges would give problem youths an option; jail time or military service. Most if not all youths picked the military. A lot of them committed crimes or other offenses, which lead to military prison, dishonorable discharges or a general discharge from military service. When some people are forced to do something they don't want to do, it's usually isn't a good out come.
They don’t get paid enough.. there are military families that struggle.. the housing on base has mold.. it’s ridiculous how bad the housing is on base. Give them more money to support their families and maybe they’ll be happy to support their country..
The housing on base does not all have mold, only the housing given to lower ranking enlisted.

I'm not going to lie, and maybe this is the part of me that is half-Korean, but I am generally in favor of mandatory military service for 2 years, like in Korea. Something is pleasant about the rich kids forced to be in the same rank as the poor kids and everyone forced to do some manual labor. It also teaches you some basic manual labor skills, which I would have appreciated when I was leaving High School.
That said, the U.S. Military would probably A) Actually send you off to war regularly and B) Let the rich kids off with a bone spur note from a crooked doctor.

My husband (white collar, top earner) was studying to join the military as an officer. It's been part if his plan for years. But he immediately soured on the idea and threw it out the window after watching this debacle with Israel suddenly pulling our government on a leash. He is willing to serve America with an American government and democracy he trusts to keep us out of unnecessary conflict...but he's definitely not signing up to be cannon fodder for foreign conflict that doesn't benefit us in the least. The war machine is out of control.
IMO democrats are in on this too. Let’s see if trumps youngest son or the sons of any wealthy people will be forced to enlist.
