I haven't even really been applying the process, just shifting my mindset and being aware of false narratives has let me climb a ridiculous amount in the past 2 months. This is Daniel from Skool; Thank you for choosing my post! First I would like to apologize because I wrote that when I was aggravated after a game. The focus wasn't on winning or losing, lp loss or gain. I have won and lost games where everyone fought the whole time in ranked and normal games. I believe I threw a lot of people off with the talk of losing while trying to improve. I will also say that I have been toxic and checked out of games myself. This channel helped me to find the toolset I needed to improve those stage 4 issues and I am still not perfect in anyway. The point that I was unable to focus on and that bothers me is the game doesn't feel fun anymore. I love competition and the bullshitting back and forth. I have played many sports for many years and am quite competitive myself. During all those years and across all the sports I never encountered people wishing death and cancer on others among other things. Fights would break out here and there and people get emotional. All normal things and usually they would apologize or just move past their differences. In league they never apologize or just move on. They hit play again and bring it into the next game and so on. So the question "Am I The Problem?" Is my mindset incorrect and I should attempt to gain a new perspective on it. Am I the only one who feels like the game is less fun then it used to be. The answer I found while watching today was that I should always full mute and focus purely on game play. Thank you again for reading my post and giving your opinions, I greatly apricated them!

Thank you guys for this episode, i just took nearly a 200 lp drop from silver 1 78lp all the way down to bronze 1 20lp after spending nearly the entire season and 160+ games learning malzahar and taking the slow climb up. Hearing about how other one tricks also have this issue really helped me come to terms with the drop. i had near completely dumped any mental progress i was making while listening to you guys on the climb up believing that the sudden and abrupt drop couldn't possibly be my fault. I am returning to the basics, locking in with a less randomized build path, and reequipping the 5 honor skin as a promise to re-fix my mindset. Thank you again for all you do.

I was really pleased when Nathan realized that the "leavers" are more like "dials". Regardless of the accuracy of the analogy, the overall point and the discussion was very good, and it helps to look at the game this way. I've had the situation before of feeling like I'm improving over a period of time but going nowhere in terms of rank. And it was because I was also matching my improvement with more tilt, flaming team mates, spam pinging etc.

I have a friend who recently started medical school and his time to play League went way, way down. Many days he doesn't even play a single game but he usually gets in about 8-10 per week. And guess what happened? His winrate actually went up! He reached Masters with about a 65% winrate OTP Shen. He had even previously noted that his winrate went down significantly after 4-5 games per session (he never 3-blocked). So sometimes playing less can lead to higher intensity, more focused games, which leads to better results.

I've started the process of just playing consistently. Because what I would always do is just play like 8 games on a Friday night, sometimes playing more on Saturday night, and then not touch the game for a few weeks. But 3 games a night feels good, and I've only done it for a few days, but I can see the improvement coming along already. I've been playing since Ezreal came out, and didn't start ranked until I got to level 30 in season 4 and have been consistently bronze or silver. I started bronze this season, but this is the quickest climb I've had yet. And keeping a positive mindset really helps, not that I was a negative player, but I did that thing that Nathan has talked about of just mentally checking out of matches instead of making opponents work for the LP as you guys have said, and I didn't even realize I was doing that until you guys talked about it. It makes the game a loooooot more enjoyable when you play from that perspective. Just had a Yuumi jg that didn't take smite, and we still won by never giving up. I appreciate what you guys do for the community, you guys are like an oasis in this desert of toxicity.

Nathan's job analogy is spot on. This summer I've been working in retail and I've noticed that I've had a significantly better experience and a positive cyckle going on there. It all stems from me wanting to give it my all, and really trying to be as good at that job as I can, and the positive reinforcement from that has made all the difference.
Of course that won't solve all of the problems, but I damn well did not create unnecessary baggage by going in with a poor attitude.

This is pretty wild. I agree with a lot of what is being said and much of these topics resonate with me, not necessarily because I once was higher mmr and now I'm not, but because I took over a year long break from League for a myraid of reasons, mainly that it had a heavy impact on my mental health and my capacity to be a good father and husband. I've started playing again, the meta has changed and I'm learning... itemization is different and I'm learning... I decided to begin again using a brand new account, leveled it from scratch, and have been hard focusing on maintaining my mental in a good spot in the process, and while I only have roughly a 50% WR, I have been consistently climbing and haven't had a lull or "mental boom" yet. I was formerly a Vayne OTP, much to your points kind of shining a light on OTPs being a bit more susceptible to a lot of these levers in action. Now I play Caitlyn, Jhin, Miss Fortune, Ashe, Lucian, and Vayne fairly evenly. I probably play Jhin and Caitlyn the most in the current meta. I also have exceptional games/stats with Thresh, Leona, and Nautilus (maybe I should switch my main role to support?). My previous highest rank was Plat 1 back when Emerald wasn't introduced into the mmr tiers yet (and I am actually fairly confident that had I not gone on a deployment that I would have gotten well into Diamond at the rate I was playing/climbing) and I am currently sitting in Gold 3. Knocked a lot of rust off, been feeling good and doing well, and I've recognized that I gotta refine quite a few things. Your mental state is, imo, one of, if not THE most important factor in consistently climbing. Cheers guys, thanks for this.

What happens when you go on a loss streak is you second guess your own knowledge and start doing different shit, throwing out what worked to get you at that rank in the first place.
Part of the reason why I'm extremely low variance in my lp range is because I will take a break and hard reset when I catch myself starting to do this.

  • @coolbrotherf127

The common thread I see when people get stuck or downswing is that they focus too much on winning and not enough on improving and playing at their best. That expectation of "I've improved, now I deserve a higher rank." The problem is that people are really bad at accurately comparing their level of play to others and how little a single improvement actually has on their overall skill level. No one got to challenger the next day just because they improved their CSing a little bit in gold. The players that are eternally getting and staying in high ELO focus on themselves and take the small details and optimizations very seriously. Players tend to get lazy or frustrated and start ignoring those small details thinking that they deserve to win just because they want to win.

To riff off the age question from the mail bag- Street Fighter is the perfect example of age not being a barrier for high performance. One of biggest Street Fighter tournaments ever just happened (EVO 2024, 5200 entrants) and 3 of the top 8 players are pushing age 40 (Momochi: age 38, Nemo and Tokido: age 39). All are veterans and legends in their own rights, but this just emphasizes how experience and repetitions can make up for whatever physical attributes may be lost to Father Time.

I'm not sure the job analogies really are working for me, when i'm playing league i'm having fun, i have options, agency on how i approach the game, which role and champion, how much i'm invested into it, i do not need to be playing it and that's why i enjoy making the choice of playing it.
Pretty much none of those qualities exist in jobs, especially when it's like you said your first job at macdonalds, literally the only reason people are there is for money and they don't have a choice to be doing it, they also don't have agency on which job they're choosing most of the time, agency you only build with time but honestly it's a myth that even giving it your all will eventually guarantee you agency over your job position.
That's why when i hear job analogies coming from yall i'm perplexed because it seems like a leap to insinuate that not giving it your all at your job means the same thing or can lead to you not giving it your all in league, when in reality the main story you hear from almost every pro player is that they slacked off at school or at their work to focus on league, which eventually paid off.
Maybe if you can see a pattern for someone that's simply not giving it their all into anything in their life then yeah it can also be reflected into their job, but i then believe a better analogy would be just looking at how people approach their overall life and passions rather than focusing on jobs. I feel like how people approach being in a band, playing football, making short films, studying in college for their passion, teaching themselves skate or an instrument, weightlifting, would be a much better analogy because the second you assimilate to behaving in league like you should in your job then i'm loosing you.

I'm only halfway through the video, but if you are talking about the mcdonald's job comparison, I think the main point is that your mindset and attitude dictates a lot more than some people realize. You accept your league rank, you don't need to necessarily be happy with it but you have to come to terms with you are there currently and that's that.

    • @snm8183
      @snm8183 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I guess what he means by the job analogy is maybe its similar in a way that you dont have a choice to be ranked in silver. As you are younger maybe you feel like maccas is decent enough job but as you grow older you see people starting to work in companies with less physically demanding jobs and with higher pays. That time you start to think why the hell you are still stuck in this hopeless job. Well like you said sometimes you have no choice. Maybe its because of your education, your family etc, but the only thing you can control is yourself. Its like a game in leauge, sometimes its your teammates' fault sometimes its party due to your lack of ability in turning a lose into a win. Either way the only way to get out of the current rank is to learn from your mistakes and focus on yourself. Same as working a less decent job, you cant change how your manager views you, you cant make your colleagues less dumb than you think they already are - the only thing you can change is yourself. If you want to switch job, figure out a way. If you want to get back to college, then think of a way to get back into it, if you want to stream/ learn coding, then do them, etc. The only thing you can control is yourself, and the only one who can actually get yourself out of this situation is yourself.

Dude is down 700 LP. That's rough. OTP's get hit hard by meta shifts tbh. Also, the biggest drops I've seen from people are from D2 down to low Emerald and from Masters down to D3. I've never seen anyone go from Masters to Emerald and get stuck.
However...I've seen Masters players get absolutely shit on by Bronze players, legitimately. So it's possible that if they're tilt queueing, learning new champs and stuff they could drop a significant amount, even if they weren't originally an OTP. I think a lot has to go wrong though for it to happen.
Also, Riot has explicitly made attempts to reduce inflation over this season...They've also banned over 50,000 bot accounts which further causes a downward shift of the ranked distribution. Almost everyone I know is sitting in a lower rank than they were last split. There's obviously something else going on with your boy being down 700 LP, but I think you can chalk up at least 200 of it to overall deflation of the ladder.

I think people get too hung up on 'toxic team mates, afkers and inters' being what's holding them back in their ranks. Don't get me wrong, it makes the experience less enjoyable, but it doesn't have a meaningful impact on your LP. For every game you lose from an inter, you will also win one eventually from an enemy inter. You get bad players on your team at the same rate as every other person, including the enemy team. So in isolation, these issues cause you short term losses, but it balances out over the course of many games. That's just how averages work. Even if you never get another afk in your game again, you would still be at the same rank over the course of a season.
Only changing YOUR play will affect the outcome of YOUR rank.

Dont really get the Zeri example in the last email. Stats are collected from real games anyways? So it doesnt matter if you or other player experienced the same thing in a game. You just learn it from other players' experience. As for gold/ challenger opinion of course everyone's opinion could be sound but when you are gold yourself its very hard to tell whose telling the truth. So it makes sense to listen to someone from a higher rank. Its like at school you listen to your teacher, who was employed cos he has a degree in a subject. Your teacher is likely not a random dude on street who doesnt even have a bachelor degree. Yes a random dude might have better insight on a subject but how can you guarantee the quality of his opinion? If he is that good the chance of him not having a degree is also slim.

The silver 1 player has too few games in. And the fact that he doesn't enjoy playing in silver is the biggest hurdle thats causing him to plateau. Its funny that when you look at others mistakes they can seem obvious but when its you are the one making them. Years ago I picked up wild rift and went straight to Plat, I plateaued for a few weeks there but cos I enjoyed being a "Plat" I continued playing till I reached Diamond at the game and it didn't even feel tiring at all. Then I looked at the ladder and thought it was too much work to reach Chally in a mobile game so I stopped, by the time I was already 600 games in WR. What I wanted to say is it takes time to climb in every game and if you dont enjoy where you are at right now it makes it 10x harder to even climb cos its easy for you to get excessively emotional when you lose. Also every challenger was once a bronze/ silver/ gold player its just how the game works.

    People need to take breaks
Half the reason they dont climb is they're on a hair trigger to soft int or spam ff because theyre already frustrated

Obviously this would be hard to track but I think it would be interesting if there were ranks based on the number of games the user has. would be a wild ranked system, but it would stop these no-life challenger players from flaming an emerald player with 1000 lifetime games about how they are big sad dummies when they have 30,000 lifetime games
