If they’re resetting ranks this hard then absolutely. If the average demotion is around 6-8 divisions which I think is what it’s been, if in an optimistic scenario you have a 55% win rate that’s still well over 200 games to get back to where you are. You have a 3 month split where usually the first and last 1-2 weeks are generally very poor match quality, and you need to spend a ton of time before you’re even back to where you started. I know riot wanted to tackle rank inflation but they should’ve just waited for next season instead of doing a third split. With 3 splits you spend just as much if not more time getting back to where you ended previously as you do actually climbing
lol, how interesting. its also if riot gave out lp based on "performance" or "grade" so they get the measure up, instead of completeing the actual target
imLS has a pattern of dishing out oversimplistic near-useless advises, all the way to horrible suggestions, especially given his rank. telling someone to aim for 10cs/m is only slightly better than telling someone to aim to crush at least 7 structures to win. it overplaces farming to the highest priority, without relative consideration of any other actions. does he honestly think a new player will have enough wisdom to not take that as an absolute, not having a clue how circumstantial decision making is, in this game? especially in jungle, especially as amumu a ganking champion. is LS really that tone deaf he's incapable of putting on someone else shoes and listen to himself? as if that's not bad enough he gave an even worse one to someone i assume is a new player, worse if he's stuck losing
@@GrammeStudio He doesn't have the nuance in the initial statement, but he's just saying to have that mentality. League at its absolute core is about gaining gold and xp to outpace your opponent. You don't win games by going for that goal, but LS is stating that step 1 to learning league of legends is learning how to last hit. Once you can last hit well and it becomes second nature, then you learn other parts of the game. Obviously exclusively csing isnt correct, but the game is WAY too complex to teach someone how to last hit, trade, teamfight, split push, roam, set up objectives, etc.
with that being said, 10 cs/m is not a realistic standard. However, I absolutely agree that focusing on farming is step 1 to improving in league of legends.
They're changing around the meaning of rank too quickly with far too little communication. First you add emerald and inflate every rank below it, and now we're deflating high elo? No idea what riot are smoking.
Bunch of smoke and mirrors in hopes of driving player retention (they have the stats so they would know if it does tbf). Scummy ass company when it comes to their leadership and top of the brass decision making.
The one thing people are missing is the percentage of players in the tiers with this new split. E4 is now 10% rather than 15%. D4 is 2.5% rather than 5%. Master was top 1% now is 0.5%. Everyone is just looking at the visual rank but fail to see that you’re probably closer to your previous ranks mmr
@@eebbaa5560 it’s just a vacuous statement which assumes the player knows fundamentals, which in this case we know he doesn’t because of how new he is. especially as a jgler in bronze where the enemies will constantly make punishable mistakes, a player focused on full clearing will literally just not impact their game
10 cs/m is impossible most games as Jungle. It's not something you can do consistently. It requires a laner to die, and you also need to have the downtime to pick up their farm. Or for the enemy jungler to consistently devalue their own farm in favor of ganks, and your team needs to have enough lane control for you to invade. Both of which are not going to happen regularly, and it will become increasingly uncommon in high elo brackets
@@darnellafrance3591 yeah i don’t even play jungle idk how i’d consistently get more than 5 per minute in a role where you actually have to play the map from minute 1.
fullclearing before gank gets you to 7 or 8. its literally impossible without tax or good invade timer. you could argue FC>gank bot x3 gets you drake and ONE counterjgl opportunity if you are lucky and get kills multiple times. only then would i even think about anything above 8cspm. 10 cspm is insanely hard without lane prio and kills on top of that
I really appreciate your LS rant. I am starting to take my League climb seriously after getting dumped into Iron and it has begun with just focusing on CS and I am starting to run into classic traps of "well I out farmed my lane, or I traded fine with my lane, why is my team getting stomped?" I clearly have a lot of tunnel vision right now and you all are helping me realize I need to get over that and look at the map more fully.
Gold, XP with a farming jung is still the easiest way to get out of elo hell, if enemy jung ganks, you think of invading his camps and trade xp and gold for his efforts he used to ganks. Also red buffs difs are the easiest way to trade -1vs1 with other jungles or reason to force invade into enemy jungle. I think most importantly is it to choose 1-2 champs a split to learn and otp them and look up pro builds and games from pro players. I know it's boring to only play 2 champs but if you want to play other champs play normals or arams. That the advice I can give you 😊😊
@tomiboyy If you saw the vod Curtis said good farm is a by product of other things which is true. If your goal in League is to farm 10 cspm. You missing out on many other things that are more impactful. Because Curtis gave an example of an LS fanboy (that was their name LS Fan) and they tunneled so much on cs that it took a while for Curtis to break their habits because they were so engrained.
@@2BsYummySoles I agree with you, but regognizing a good gank, a bad gank, is way harder for low Elo to learn than just ego playing farming Jung mechanics. It's not that hard to learn to 100 cs shy in 12 if you watch some videos, but it's still gonna be a always a new story by ganking, cause most champs a different, played different..... Additional even if the bounty system with gold and kills changed now, you have to know what to do with kills. Either you get the kills on jungle, you can buy better item, but that did not change much for your bot for instance... And if they get they get the kill, it's mostly not even worth for you as a jungle, by losing time gold and xp that your bot mostly does not know how to use and will gave the gold to enemies very soon. That being said I agree with you that there is more, but contextualising the easiest was to climb up helps the most. I am not a ls fan boy at all. I watched agurin a lot on shy years past now and realized my xp and my possibilities of climbing. Nice video though :)
Came back after a two year break. Played split 2 and had 80% winrate and ended up in high Diamond. I thought, wow the games finally feel balanced, with only few trolls & afks. Then split 3 happened.. Got placed in Emeral 4 and the matchmaking was as bad as it has never been before. I played against split 2 master players with split 2 full platinum players, and this almost every game. After a while matchmaking was still insanely unbalanced and I noticed that people started to troll, int and afk because of frustration, which made it even more impossible to climb. I will wait for improvements or next split.. Sadly a break again, was excited for more balanced games.
suddenly, but I agree with Riot, today Master Tier is basically a silver from first seasons and it should not be this way, finally this is positive change against pre-boosted people who grind 2800 elo in normal games and think their +30-10 gonna justify them being Dia with silver skills
I went through something similar recently. Won 3 Lost 17 Games over a 20 game period when I first started the split. Tilted was an understatement. Watched Curtis's video on the Split 3 changes and gave me so much insight into why this had happened. It's shit but, it ends. Currently 50% WR over last 20 game up from 15% as previously stated. Games have flipped, no more trolls/ints/afks and most importantly climbing again! If you quit now, you'll fall further behind not playing at all rather than having a realistic acceptance of the game state. VOD reviews post game and /mute all has made a HUGE difference. Also after each game, checking where my self-talk is at. (Positive/Negative?)
@@LaplacianDalembertian Its absolutely the opposite. First seasons Master were dog in comparison to todays master players. The overall skill level of league has drastically changed over the years. The champs are harder to master, there's more knowledge and niche things to know in order to have good macro. You are objectively wrong in thinking that early season challengers would be anything but diamond today.
Exactly I hate when these coaches and "high elo" ppl say just focus on getting like 8+cspm. Its not that simple, to achieve that you have to understand a lot of other concepts to be able to get 8+cspm, wave management, recall timer, trading, picking skirmishes and teamfights.etc you have to do all that well and then the 8+cspm just comes naturally. Its exactly like saying "just cook a good meal"
Absolutely. I feel like where most lower elo players lose CS is poor wave management and recall timing (they push the wave but don't crash it properly, ends up frozen on enemy side), rather than simple last hitting. You're telling them the objective but not properly teaching them how to get there.
I would replace focus on 8+cs for decision making mid game , you can catch alot of people off guard if you are good at coming up with a plan/steps to futher progess the game, its a team game and who ever makes the first pings for like a baron most people will follow that call cause they are just going with the flow of the game. Also every high elo player had to grind from low elo at one point , which means they put hundreds of games in low to get high , even myself started silver 2 for 3 years , 1tricked yasuo for 700 games just to get to d4, then season after that i went from d4 to challenger.Once you get a good understanding overall of the game it gets alot easier to move up over time. But that first lift off is LONG DAYS AND PAINFULL/STRESSFULL so best of luck o7 you got this!
@@Arth950 bruh its what im arguing. Macro encapsulates all of that. If u take enough bad trades u need to back and potentially miss out on cs. If u recall at wrong time while wave is pushing into u then u potentially miss cs. If u cant predict a losing teamfight and end up going in and dying, u potentially miss out on cs Etc etc etc
Interested to see your video on this. I've found game quality has CONSIDERABLY dropped, and to an extent this happens every season, but I only got back into league seriously last split after playing in season 7-9 seriously. But I've noticed that this season is just terrible. People are flipping every game cause theyre so tilted, I'm having to hard carry almost every game I win, and ACEing almost every game I lose. If I slip up and feed or if I let a troll tilt me for even 1 or 2 games it tips my 55% wr to 45%. the 30-40-30 rule just seems to not be how it feels. Feels so much like 45% of games are guaranteed losses (even if you snowball the early game) and you have to sweat your ass off to win the other 55%. Riot should have done this at the beginning of a new year long season imo, rather than at the end of the year in the 3rd split. Just seems like a shitty tactic to getting people to grind more (and it's worked)
This is how it feels when you are playing at the edge of your skill level. It was also like this years ago. You are dealing with so many situations without having developed proper solutions yet. That's why everything feels like a coinflip and that's also why you are focusing on your team so much. When you consistenly win lane and impact the map with your lead, just by your sheer presence, then you will have many more winning sidelanes and more objectives. No need to 1v9 every game.
@@tatamigalaxy-i5r not really cause i climbed with a 70% winrate last split but just didnt have enough time to climb any further as i only got back into league 1 month before the split was over, then this split the games feel impossible at below the same level
The wierdest thing is just literally this morning I thought, "ooh I heard some advice somewhere that I should focus on CS as the single most important thing". I just lost a game and thought that my CS;ing was subpar, so I did that for a game and everything you said would happen literally happened in that game. Uncanny
Lmaoooo i loved you guys going in on LS. I mean its exactly like you said its borderline damaging to a low elo player to tell them “just get 10cspm” no context
I finished low master (50-100 LP) for 3 years in a row, this split I'm emerald 4 45% winrate with 300 games played I keep getting lower and lower the more I play idk what happened I don't play vs last split master either I'm losing in lobbies where people finished d4.
I agree, telling a bronze player to get 10CSPM is ridiculous, I'm emerald+ and i get maybe 7-8CPSM in most games lol. 10CSPM is not the goal, it's the result of many other goals which happen to increase your CS, like not dying, good backs, and prepping minions for under tower. It's like telling someone new to the gym if you want muscles like me just lift this 200kg weight. It's the incremental training that allowed someone to develop the muscles to be able to lift that weight, lifting that weight alone, did not give them those muscles.
Aren't there also certain champs where, if played correctly, you won't be getting more than 8 no matter how high elo you are? Like I know that one challenger Zac OTP gets about 7.
@@jahcode6132 the purpose of CS is to contribute towards the larger goal of your team gaining resources and the enemy losing resources, a ganking champ like zac is good at getting his team resources but not himself, so certainly wouldnt be aiming anywhere near 10cspm
lmao this is so validating, i thought i was an absolute emerald bum for only getting 7-8cspm but everything you said is correct, there is a lot to think about during the game that contributes to this
I had my friend live coach me when I was learning the game. Super useful not having to worry about the map when starting out and being able to focus on lasthitting and using my abilities
Honestly, as somewhat of a LS fan myself; It would be great if you guys could do an episode with him. I’m sure he won’t refuse it. PLEASE make it happen!!
Yeah, I really wish they spoke too. I feel like Nate and Curtis would be perfect at explaining " overwhelming the mental stack" as a concept to LS. Plus, what Curtis mentioned about just straight up watching vods of players together and seeing what different or similar conclusions they come to would be really fun to watch.
Same that sounds super interesting I’d just like to hear how they would react to each others perspectives on things in the moment if it does happen hope it can be civil sounds super interesting
Biggest Problem is in low elo. If you fought hard to arrive in Gold coming out of the hell in silver and below and now get placed in bronze for no reason you where robbed of your achievement and have to climb out of that hell again. When I arrived in gold, the games felt like people had a general idea of not feeding and a goal. After that I got chafted by the new system got places in silver 4 with the same people from gold mixed with people in that actual elo. Now all matches felt even more a gamble than before. (smurfing, inting, afking, etc.) Guess what, I climbed to gold but now of a sudden i dropped down to iron 2 and struggled to get out there because its the random hell all over again. It killed my motivation for the game.
If you're high bronze ir silver, then youre playing with people who were also gold last split. You aren't playing with and against people who were also bronze last season.
I know your feeling and its blindness. Everytime i climbed I had the same feeling that you share but its not true. I had your feeling until i climbed to plat and saw that they are dogwater aswell. I continued playing on a diamond account and was able to stay in there and they still do the most ridiculous bronze things, the only thing that changes is mechanics and champion mastery hence why its so important but in plat dia master emerald you will still see people making bronze plays every game it seems to be an issue to make correct makro for everyone. I was in shook seeing I perform better against diamond midlaners then plat/gold ones because the permanent chaos and mess just made me messup myself against them even tho i could tell i was theoretically better. Playing against way better players makes you very cacious and the respect and fear you have manes you learn faster, since there your mistakes get punished not like in bronze silver gold plat where you can get around anything even making the most stupidest shit. play against better players and you will learn million times faster then against low elo players. but hey i also quit the game this split seeing that the cool team mates and gameplay doesnt even exist in high elo or only very rarely, its the same shit everywhere with different difficulties not worth the time its about the other people in the game mostly either way just do things your good at and dont deal with this trash game, if it was a communicative game with VC yea sure its a good game but not a team game that relies on communication but offers you 0 ways to communicate
Riot's approach to ranked this last season has just been horrifically awful. I quit ranked at the end of last year after reach my goal (Masters), and don't plan on coming back unless they make significant changes. Not only are they forcing people to climb 3 times a year (exhausting), but they're doing the hardest reset to high elo they've ever done IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR? That being said, I genuinely don't think Riot cares about players like me anymore. Their goal is just to get people addicted to the grind and have whales spend tons of money on insanely priced exclusive skins and battle passes. They're culling the playerbase and milking those that remain because they don't view League as a growth game or sustainable.
Exactly they are done with this game for sure making the game more inviting for new players would be too much work for them its always easier to milk the whales addicted to your game with the rigged matchmaking and 3 splits. Almost any online game goes this route as soon as they know their game is doomed soon.
I was actually thinking about quitting league because of this split (or at least for a while) I got Emerald 4 last season and since the new season I can't get over Gold 4. I focus on learning and improving and I feel I play better and better, but still it doesn't matter. I particularly don't like the quality of the game. I want to improve to get into better games with better players and I feel the opposite is happening. And don't get me wrong: I know all elo is elo hell, I'd just like a bit more consistency like I feel I had in previous years. All I get is players giga feeding nonstop, quitting games, afking, feeding on purpose, trolling lane assignments, troll picking in champ select. Is not like is just one game that happen this in a couple: IS ALMOST EVERY SINGLE GAME. And I think the culprit is matchmaking disparities and these MM changes.
same here, could be 10-0 after 15min and still lose 10 in a row, matchmaking is broken, somehow my opponent is all much higher lvl and my team full of bronze every round
You must have a small sample of games so far. I finished emerald 4 last split and started placements gold 2 and am currently plat 3 after like 13 ranked games. And keep in mind this is on adc which is apparently a bad role rn. I do agree that there have been a lot of trolls on both sides lately
You should just stop playing then because even if you improve and start to cllimb you are going to have the same game experience all the way up to masters and above. It has been this way since like season 7~ when more people finally realised the only way you actually get punished by Riot is typing. Don't get me wrong there was definitely griefing in earlier seasons but it wasn't even a fraction of how bad it is now, people can soft int hundreds of games without any repurcussions, and so they do.
@@banditbrah I have stopped playing ranked for 2 weeks, game is much more fun now, seems pointless when I play with emerald smurfs and we cant win bcoz our team either 50% int or troll no matter what you do, then you ask whats the point? to get to plat? just for season skin? it just doesnt worth the stress and time, instead just having fun in normal mode and aram
That's what I was thinking. Today I started learning some new champs. Played 2 games of norms and a few of flex. My plan is to play about 20-40 like this before I drop a solo queue ranked game. Boy was it a rough day, but I expected it to be
@@Acceptable890 i hope people finally see how shit ths game is and finally stop being addicted to it i usualy only play like 50 games a split finishing emerald 4 split 3 so far im stuck at 50% winrate in gold mmr while almost every game someone is totaly gaped doesnt matter if enemy or my team and dies 15 times while not contributing anything to try and win only constant dying. Actually hope player numbers plumit so the higher ups that make these cahnges finally get some sort of deserved bad emotion they give their own playerbase nonstop the matchmaking forcing winrate 50% wasnt enough tho gotta throw in another split and requiering 3 times the games to get back to your last splits rank the people behind all these changes are truely evil.
This split is being just disastrous to me, 100 games with 60 losses. I ended last split emerald 2, struggling on platinum 4 right now and getting teammates that ended last split bronze/silver laning against plat/emerald players. I can't seem to get 2 decent matches in a row, there is always 2 or 3 players that are totally misplaced. I really don't get how this reset is supposed to fix anything or make queues more balanced, it's just chaos to me
Im a 30 year old man and on the last day of split 2 i made it back to my rank which is emerald just to be back in gold the next day....... Im not gonna do that again
@@kangyxd bro I'm currently in gold 2 too, and honestly I just don't have the energy anymore.... If it was one split it would be different, but 3??? Right now I'm kinda stuck playing Aram but seriously contemplating just stopping altogether
Me too, made it to diamond, then decayed because I took a break after grinding like 120 games. Who knows what I will get reset to for Split III after decaying.
I usually finish each split Plat 1 to Emerald 3-4. This split I'm struggling to get back into gold after being placed silver 4?!?. Whatever they've done to matchmaking it feels awful to play. Every game there's a minimum of 2-3 of INTing or leavers. I don't understand how they've made matchmaking so one sided, but it feels like if you start to lose games you continue to get paired with players who are also losing. As a support player this is honestly making me want to take a break from the game until they change whatever THIS is. Last split I hovered around 83% w/r, and in the last 6 splits I've NEVER had a losing record, in this split I can't imagine even getting back to 50%.
also a support main and feel the same. My peak is Plat 1, ended last two splits in Plat 3. I don't feel like my skill has decreased very much, though it has decreased a bit since I didn't play for two months. But I'm around 100 games into Split 3, and keep bouncing between Silver 1 and Gold 3-4
1:06:00 to tomas, there is a saying in the board game Go that I find very applicable for anyone with ranked anxiety and I hope the Nate and Curtis can start using. The saying is "lose your first 100 games as quickly as possible" with the number "100" being changed to 50 or 1000 depending on who you are talking to and the specific scenario. This is an admittedly strange mindset shift, but you basically just need to go into games and, while still trying to win, try to get to 100 losses as fast as possible. This is used both for complete beginners learning the game and for those with ranked anxiety who are scared of losing rating so they barely play ranked. This all coincides with the "dojo" mindset. When you've payed 20 games, a loss is a huge deal. It is 5% of your ranked journey, so of course it will feel huge. When you've lost 100 games, you probably played around 200 games or so, so any loss is
When I first started out playing league in s10 I had gotten the 10cs/m advice and proceeded to hit iron with a 30%wr on kat mid because I was too willing to trade my hp for farm among my other shortcomings. I ended up giving kat up and shooting up to bronze and silver over the course of s11-12 when I started to play mid lane mages where all my practice csing was more in line with the identity of the champion. There is so much bad low elo advice out there, but there is hardly any accountability or curiosity into whether the advice some of these high elo guys give is actually productive to be telling a low elo player.
well katarina is probably the worst midlane champ to ever focus 10cs on in fact you are often losing if you cs too much on kata its a mechanical champ and you have to see every opportunity or a bad enemy to make something out of her the skill ceiling is unimaginable with her, on the other hand you can easily climb higher doing this but playing malzahar the champ changes how you have to play the game not the game the champion
Getting 10 cspm is one piece of advice that I’ve gotten multiple times while playing multiple roles and it just doesn’t get me anywhere. I even paid for coaching where I was told that at my current level in jungle (iron/bronze) I should be aiming for 6-7 cspm, getting back to camp respawn at 4:20, and assessing conditions before taking objectives, and that should get me to silver. Except I consistently get that amount of farm, get back to my camps by 4:20 or no more than 20 secs later after a successful early gank, and I assess conditions before taking objectives and it just doesn’t matter. I can do all those things and still lose more often than not. My issues are dealing with teammates that throw. For example, laners who think that taking my jungle camps when they’re full build is the move instead of pushing lanes and sieging. Teammates who want to permafight or ARAM instead of pushing side lines. Teammates who don’t listen when you ping your head off to communicate what your plan is, like pushing lanes or going to a certain part of the map, etc. Like I know there is TONS I can do better, but when I’m already doing these things and getting told I’ll climb if I just do this and then not climbing while doing those things… it fucking sucks. Like why is what I’m doing not enough? Why did I bother paying for the coaching when it’s not actually helping me get anywhere?
hard to say without watching your games or seeing a profile. could be you don't play enough, could be you are making game losing mistakes in mid/late game which counter acts the good early game or could be missing game winning opportunities, could be you getting that 4:20 camp respawn, but not doing it consistently enough for it to matter, etc. Do you review your games? three block? Are you really doing all those things every single game? Track it yourself. After every game, write down if you got the 4:20 camp respawn, if you checked win conditions, etc. Sometimes, when I stuck and think I'm doing everything right, I really am doing everything right, but I'm not doing it consistently enough. I might do X right in games 1, 3 and 7, Y right in games 2, 3, 4 and 6 and then Z right in games 1, 4 and 5. It feels like I'm doing X, Y and Z right, but it isn't consistent enough to matter. Also improvement very often looks like plateau, then everything clicks into a spike, then another plateau and so on.
Thats bcoz Jungler just doesnt matter, its all about adc or a crazy roaming mid, even if you go 10-0 jungler u will still lose 90% of the games because ur adc/mid/top are total scrubs
I just coached someone in Iron and it's quite similar for most Gold and below. A lot of people don't understand the general macro of the game and playing out the map. It's easy for people to get sidetracked and you can only play your own game really. If youre doing the right things it at least improves the odds of getting wins.
As a jungler, farming is not how you win games, regardless of what coaches want to tell you. The jungler is the primary playmaker of the team. Your job is to get map control for the team by invading, ganking, getting picks/punishing people who are out of position, and setting up objectives by sweeping for vision with your support. It is by far the most dynamic role in the game and fundamentals do not teach you how to be good at jungle. You have to really understand timing, map rotations, etc. It's like playing quarterback in football or point guard in basketball. You are relatively in charge of strategy and calling the shots in 70% of scenarios.
As a returning casual, who is now focused on getting better and climbing ranked this chaos brings me comfort as I feel less behind since everyone is adapting and with no preconceived notions of what my ranked should be it feels great.
I don't specifically want to defend LS here, but one of the things I do see with some players is that they don't value farm as much as they could. I do think this is endemic to a specific type of player more so than others e.g. I find this extremely common with people who play Fizz, Sylas, Akali etc., where they either completely sack their lane if they are losing it and just perma roam which is a valid strategy though, but once mid game hits, they get so caught up in the dopamine of constant fighting it never occurs to them that they are being extremely ineffective with how they spend their time where they usually lose their lead because of how it puts them so behind relative to the opponent who is more picky when they fight and keep up their farm. These are the sort of players LS is probably thinking of when says to focus more on farming, but the issue is the delivery. What he's trying to say is to value farming more over fighting which is solid advice for the player who overvalues fighting, but he delivers it by giving this concrete number which creates an actual mental goal of trying to always achieve a specific tangible result which can become toxic if you don't reevaluate the hypothesis why this is an important goal to achieve. For someone who respects LS even if I don't always agree with him, I did find that him stating trying to reach 10 cs a min quite helpful when I was newer to the game, because I genuinely struggled to last hit. It helped me reshape my understanding of League as a resource management game and the way it impacted me now several years later is that the only thing that tilts me really hard is when I am falling very behind in farm and XP to my lane opponent, probably because I know those are the things I can directly influence whereas I cannot always influence enemy Katarina instantly roaming bot side after a reset and getting a triple kill. With that said I've also seen the player who takes his advice to the extreme and never interacts with their opponent during the laning phase. They always notably play control mages too, especially Orianna and Syndra, which just goes to show what impact he still has over the low elo community in this regard. Syndra is particularly weird given that her passive literally incentivizes her towards trading with her opponent in other to build passive stacks more quickly, which also shows how the perception of Syndra as this scaling control mage who farms to 2 items and oneshots people in the mid game is also very much alive despite her mini-rework (people forgot about Syndra being a lane bully weirdly quickly). Fundamentally, I think what I disagree with here isn't so much that LS is giving bad advice but more so that he refuses to acknowledge that he is. He knows he can't coach low elo players because he tried early on in order to earn extra cash and quickly realized he just can't empathize with their issues and it takes too much effort for him to try to understand them so it was easier for him to just say he's not up for the task, but I think he also realized that his audience will statistically always be comprised of largely a low elo audience, so he still tries to cater to them in this way. He could try to understand his audience better and where they're coming from but he's not.
issue with advise from folks like LS, is they operate under ASSUMPTIONS that are highly unlikely in bronze. they dont seem to be consciously aware of their presuppositions you're only able to invade effectively if there's roam leverage. but roam leverage is pointless if laners dont rotate leading a dive is only powerful if laners can follow up your dive ganks are only powerful if your laners look at minimap more than once per 5min and know to setup ganks yet LS and his peers usually assume those 'advance' behavior arepart of bronze skillsets. yet bronze players are assumed to not know farming is (most) important? that only shows how out of touch folks like LS could be. bronze players know about 'advanced' knowledge but clueless about the 'basic' skill? the kind of absolutism playstyle informed by his kind of absolutism principle is also asinine, given how drastic one should be playing amumu vs fiddlestick. amumu excels at ganking, fiddlestick is a poor early ganker. telling ludwig to focus on farming on both powerganker and powerfarmer is so ignorant, that it can only be equated to a bronze laner expecting his jungler to gank every minute and all lane soloing all dragons
The sylas one is so real I see so many games where he is like 8/1/2 100 cs at 22 mins. Maybe the fizz and akali one are true but I play those champs and heavily value farm allways have 7-8 per game maybe it’s an issue tho and I should be roaming more
@@uniqe_apple9763 Sylas is an example of knowing your power curve. If your champ is extremely dominant early/mid game. You don't necessarily need to focus on farming and you're wasting your champion's advantage by not trying to make plays around the peak of your power curve/spike.
I just had a game where my ADC Jhin went 9-0-2 in botlane. He set up a freeze that lasted about two minutes and he pinged me letting me know that the enemy Jungler was going to help bot lane break the freeze. Absolutey no way our Jhin is Gold rank.
@@crazyoliver7877 gold 1 is full of emerald and plat players from last season. i placed g3 this split and went to p4. its emeralds, plats, and smurfs no real golds are even there from g2 onwards imo, high gold is basically plat just look at the last season rank icons in your ranked loading screens, lots of blue and green at the top of those gold borders...
I feel like I had a bit of a rare start to the season, for context I ended last split diamond 3 and going into this split I started emerald 3. I got consistently lucky and was quite honestly carried quite a bit and in about 3 days was one game from diamond 4. Then the games got increasingly harder and I went on an insanely long loss streak losing 15 out of my last 20 games and all I could think was that it was my fault. I had no idea about the changes to the split at the time and it definitely took a toll on me mentally. Dont think I'm going to touch ranked again for a while this experience 100% ruined it for me.
Live coaching for jungle is so overwhelming.... the decisions im struggling with require a 5 minute conversation to uncover why it makes sense, and learning why is the reason you need coaching. to do something live seemingly speeds over these issues. Of course if you are silver there are some coaching insights that make sense like go baron, or path this way, but they need to understand the thought process more than anything
i agree, for people like me that focus on LADDER RANK over MMR. its so obvious. i was top 20% in p2/p1 and now i am top 16% on the ladder, and im ONLY PLAT FOUR. SOMETHING FISHY IS GOING ON HERE
The easiest way to start learning about a champions identity is to understand what class Riot has put it into. These are all found on their website, but I think the fandom has a nicely organized list. They are broken down into Artillery, Assassin, Battlemage, Burst, Catcher, Diver, Enchanter, Juggernaut, Marksman, Skirmisher, Specialist, Vanguard, and Warden. Each has a basic formula that gives you an idea of how all of the champions within the class work, and you can see the patterns that way. A good example is comparing Fiora, Jax, and Riven, all Skirmishers. They all have some kind of mobility, but it's not long in distance, more likely to be short and low cooldown. They have a defined defensive ability (riven shield, jax stun, fiora parry), and they all have ultimates that directly increase their ability to fight in directly understandable ways, like stat gains and increased damage. They all have a unique way to play their individual kits, but if you understand they all have a similar strategy using a similar kit, you can quickly get a grasp on whatever champion you're trying to learn, and then get the specifics while you play.
44:50 Nathan we miss your live coaching sessions. I understand the rate you were going at it was a bit insane but if you'd consider hosting them again from time to time I think they were a massive benefit for the community, especially the channel that featured the coachings. I learned a lot from them.
I’m going to be honest, I’ve been ignoring all of the online commentary about the current split, just focusing on winning my games, and it has been the most successful season I’ve had so far. I’m 3 wins away from being +20 wins over .500 and I feel like I have been consistently ranking up. Winning games = ranking up. The number on the screen and the .jpg of your rank literally doesn’t mean anything. Ignore the title of your rank. Ignore the number of your rank. Ignore the number of LP you gain/lose. Play the game. Take note of mistakes. And make improvements. Everything else doesn’t matter.
Agreed. They really went back on their words 😅 before they were all "holier than thou" when it came to the rankad laddar always putting you where u deserve to be and now they are litterally crying themselves 😅 that they deserve some other rank 😅😅😅
Same, i think most people complaining were broken champs abusers that got into low elo again but now they don't have their broken thingy to scape from it.
@ I’m not in one. I’m still at +21 wins now. Getting to where I’m balancing out on wins losses. It’s about getting better now. It’s how it always has been. Maybe if you weren’t trying to be a hater online you’d see success too.
I'm hoping you can respond to this. I'm losing motivation to queue after mutliple disconnects that have lost me about 100lp. I'm talking after champ select and before loading into the game, everything crashes. Even restarting doesn't help, I even wrote a bash script to shut down all riot apps so I can reload fresh but that doesn't help. This has happened twice out of my last 10 games or so, -40 lp and an lp penalty on the following match. How do I stay motivated to queue this game when I'm losing before even loading in? The real shame is that I love the experience when it works, but recently I have been considering a permanent break from the game with just how often it does NOT work...
I think it's kind of funny that the Saltu stickers are on Nathan's side and MLA stickers are Curtis's, but the Orriana ball & Rek'sai tunnels are swapped
Get 10 CS per minute seems to basically mean, don't miss a single minion, don't lose your lane or a trade, make ganking/diving you impossible, don't rotate to objectives or plays, don't roam.
Ludwig playing league and being hardstuck bronze takes me back, when I started playing league ranked in 2023 I was hardstuck bronze for like 2 months playing kayn jungle and especially playing jungle, where you're not only responsible for your lane, but every other lane plus objectives, it's a hard time, but it around 3/4 months I went from hardstuck bronze to hardstuck gold to low plat at the end of s13, honestly just playing the game and seeing people better than you playing the champion you want to play is enough, that's what I did, I just played and saw karasmai semi regularly and eventually I got good enough at the game to reach low plat and that was enough for me, honestly haven't really wished for a higher rank ever since then
I went from a 65+% win rate split 1 and 2, and now I have. 12% win rate in split 3. 3 matches back to back I had 2 leavers, a Nami who used her bubble on nexus the whole game, and a Swain top that died 23 times in less than 28 minutes. Those are the worst, the best are not too far off. I can’t. What the hell is going on.
The system is broken, I'm diamond leveled skill, gotten it many seasons before, I have a 55% winratio when I grind/climb to it and did the math, I need 250 games which comes to 6-7 games a day just to get to my skill level, let alone play with my peers to improve. By the time I have those games in it's gonna be near the end of the split Way too much commitment/grinding for me.
I miss Curtis' Clip corner. It was good to get into the details. I wish you'd bring it back every now and then. I get that it's tough for audio only listeners
Yo seriously, I've been maining Annie for 10 years, now. I really want to know why I shouldn't play her! I'm not a 1-trick, and I want to know why I should drop her!
I assume his reason for advising against playing Annie to learn the game is that she cannot separate trading from wave management, since she really wants to stack her passive on minions, and does not teach many skills that can be transferred to other mages.
@@ohdrluwhao He was talking about 2 different pieces of advice LS (and many others) often give. The main line of thought was about "try to get 10cs/min", which leads to problems like players only farming and never trading. "Play Annie" is another piece of bad advice, which is why he wanted to come back to it, after finishing his point about the CS one, but then apparently forgot.
@@murphyslaw3483 Also could you show examples of transferrables skills on other mages that Annie does not have? So for example, why is going from Viktor to Veigar better then Annie to Veigar etc.
The problem with "little jimmy grinding and finally hitting diamond" is that he really didnt earn diamond. Riot inflated LP gains and anyone who was high plat a couple years ago could have easily hit diamond in the last few splits. They stopped giving it away this split and now little jimmy is on an alt in plat, griefing the game after the first bad thing that happens because he "doesnt belong in this elo with these pigs" even though every other player in the lobby was also diamond last season. So many people in my games are on alt accounts either smurfing or not willing to play on main and its made matchmaking horrible. They aren't queuing to win and give up instantly because the account they're on doesn't matter to them. I agree that riot needed to curb the LP inflation in the game to make these ranks mean something again, and I've always been asking for a harder reset to keep people from being grandfathered into their old rank, but they really should have waited until S15 or communicated it very clearly to the player base what was going to happen this split. The small note in the patch notes that almost no one read means most players just think this split is horrible/broken/bugged and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as they switch to playing on alts and troll their games.
Good insight here. i've been rounding master - grand master for a while now and much of what you say is true, specially the low master players were given free elo tbh, nowhere near a regular master playstyle or decision making, but, in my opinion this split is horrible/broken/bugged somehow. the matches are not equal at all, it feels like they grabbed all the players (good and bad) into high emerald - low diamond and the games are chaotic, from a consistent 55-57% winrate on all my past seasons im now at 46% in diamond 3 elo.
Hey little Jimmie here! I finished D3, had a horrible first week into this new split and I’m at E4, and I cannot stabilize very well. (Also an ADC main, but take what you will for that)
I come across a lot of advice from LS on TH-cam, and while I find some of what he says is useful, I find that most of if just wasn't very useful in my games. I don't consider myself an expert level league player, so I couldn't confidently go against his advice or just straight up say they're wrong, and just assumed there must be other issues I missed. Good to see some other high level players also share my sentiment!
I am simply using this split to discover new and old picks instead of one tricking Quinn top. Im either waiting for the meta and ranked ladder to stabilize or for item/champ specific buffs. No need to mental boom over struggling in gold when I was easily getting platinum in ~30 games. This split is my "Rediscovery Split"
@@Youngmefr i have a million points on Quinn so i can make it work and Vayne is in a better spot into tanks. Im also gold so im not even punished for my mistakes due to player skill or lack of. I imagine it would be much worse in Emerald or higher
@@kylelipka9133 y I’m low master and it’s terrible bc jungles know how to punish them probably and it’s anyway weak in lane caz of the nerfs to adc u need to be a very good range player with much experience like drututt to climb with it
I feel like the point would be to give a new player a definitive goal/reference point to improve. Maybe you don’t hit 10 cs/min but going from 4->6 cs/min might be enough to go from bronze to silver, then 6->7 silver to gold, then you might have enough knowledge to start improving in other areas
@@derek8228 Understandable, But the way he wrote it and knowing LS he meant it. Saying focus on getting 10cspm is like saying Just get good bro, like that is going to help at all. Also, getting good cs is not just a matter of last hitting, there is SOOO much more behind "just get good at farming" specially for a jungler.
I don't think that is it at all? It is giving/prioritizing a real statistic to measure improvement on, no? A new player has no idea how to measure their performance and they over focus on things like kda or objectives gained when it would be more helpful to look at gold gain (measured in cs) and this applies when either winning or losing). Probably the most helpful advice in that short of a tweet, since this reprioritizes a new player to think about a statistic they honestly disregard at first @@jinzok
I worked so god damn hard to hit Master last split, and to now hear that it "was too easy" to get to Master feels like a punch to the face. If that was "easy" I won't stick around for the hard mode
Its just not the fact the there are 3 splits which keep you playing almost every freaking day. Its the fact that in 3rd split they went all crazy and if they are placing you 1 league under you are lucky. I ended emerald 4 20lp didnt play not to get negative MMR and still got placed in gold 3 in the 3rd split so basically 2 leagues under my skill level. I just quit the game, bc its impossible to keep it up.
Reading helps a lot guys. He states it’s not really achievable on jg…. As for the cspm I focused on getting 8+ cspm while in bronze and jumped straight to gold. This is amazing advice and is the best advice one can give tbh. I don’t follow LS but you just named all of the qualities that you will naturally learn by simply focusing on csing. Gotta remember bronze has a lot wrong with their game and focusing on one thing at a time is best to climb fastest.
I found this video in my feed and I am so glad I did. The same things you all have been saying is what I have been saying since I first hit gold back in season two with just 6 months of playing. When I first started playing and until season 5 it felt really good to go up and when I was beat I knew it was because of misplays lack of warding or something clearly obvious. I was able to 1 v 2 because of skill and outplays sometimes 1 v 3 even with 1 lvl behind because of skill. Since all of the changes the game has felt pretty bad. Champs that have no resource pool, can jump to infinity and beyond. Its getting kind of insane. In split 2 I hit emerald 2 and was about to get into diamond for the first time because I was trying mind you as the worst role right now as ADC or mArKsMan. Idk what has been going on and I understand some of the changes have been relatively healthy but this is just getting crazy. I used to watch pro play for the innovations and crazy outplays from all sorts of players but as of the last 5 years most of the outplays have been pretty bleak. Mind you I was watching when the community was only 100,000 strong. I felt when you all said its not just about the farm. When traveling to Korea to see my family we would go to a pc cafe and play games where we were 7 to 10 kills behind. Collectively we would decide to team fight and gain leads only losing 2 to 3 people and killing 4 to 5 of them because we knew what our champs could do or handle then take obj and towers. Where as in NA its a poop storm where people die 3 times and its "GG Lane or jungler feeding go next waaaaaah" as they actively ignore that lane and dont even attempt to help that person out. Its crazy
What was crazy for my experience, is that we played DuoQ for 2 weeks w my friend (we were Low Diamond MMR last season He was D3, i was E1) And we were literally struggling to climb out of Platinum. We played like 10 games a day and we lost more than half of those games every day, like literally we got hardstuck platinum... And we didnt know shit about this change , after 2 weeks i deleted Lol, and he dont play anymore and im just now finding out they changed MMR??? Like wtf is this????
Some of you that is complaining about S14-3 is just brain washed that you deserved the rank last split. S13-2 and so on was inflated as Fxxx. Especially S14-1,2. It should be harder.
I dont think it was a bad move, though I agree with your comments on transparency. I went from LE to DMG during the ranked squish in CS GO, and wasn't upset about it, but I also knew it was going to happen. As long as you are being matchmade accordingly....
2 splits in a row that they made sweeping changes to the ranked number sauce, and it's going to jack up match making for the entire split again. But yeah they did this last split, I was struggling in gold and i was just entirely against emerald and diamond players as a former emerald 4. Peaked p2 and had to battle up to p4 and the percentiles have definitely changed and it's messed up every single persons mental.
It already was in Split 2 Peaked Emerald for the first time after coming back to the game In years. I went on TH-cam watched coaching videos and informed of latest, understanding the game with new eyes. Split 2 comes and after 4/5 placements Plat 1 50LP, I thought I would be chilling......how wrong I was... Ended up quitting after I went on negative win rate and ending in Gold 3. Some games were unbearable with the difference in skill from players. Granted, some games might have been my performance that failed the team, but the vast majority was not. I was getting negative LP gains. Got into a negative win rate for the first EVER. I was extremely confused. But I knew this was due to RIOT's game system, which is a no more that a construct, a fake. Otherwise, what happened to the "if you are good, you climb and belong to the elo you are in"? Did I suddenly became not good? Do I suddenly do not deserve to have classes climbed to Emerald? The hours I spent (re)educating myself on the game no longer matter? Disgusting practice to attempt to retain players. Ultimately, only those who can play 10h a day will take profit from ranked. I am now giving it another try in Split 3. Again at 4/5 winning placements and I am silver 4.....there is no motivation.....why do they do this? I will be now a whole division after my placements, for what?
its ironic Ls says that cause there's older content where hes also on record saying that CS is also dependent on "game state" like if there's a lot chaos happening naturally you wont get 10cspm. I forget what video but its there I've been watching him for a while lol
I have been playing for close to a year now, and I have learnt and progressed massivley, I was wondering if you have any advice for someone who is scared to play ranked, I would say that currently if I focus that I could hit emerald in a good amount of games and I think if i were to grind it for a year I could improve much more and maybe get master, but how do I start this journey, I dont know what champ I should play, whether I should go meta-team based picks, such as whether I should go ap if we have more ad or tank if we have none or whether I should just play 1-2 champs and stick to it, I play jgl as its my strongest role but I play every role and nearly every champ to a certain extent, but how do I get past the hurdle of starting the climb and getting rid of that anxiety, I have played less than 8 games of ranked, about 4 when I started playing with my gf and i did terribly for obvious reasons, however I played a few games recently where I did really well and rolled the game in bronze-silver mmr, as my gf was placed iron, but even tho i had 20+ kills and the game was over in 25min with no chance of losing, the anxiety of queuing ranked doesnt go away, I dont know whether its ranked as a concept that stresses me, whether its the pressure of having something on the line and that I have to preform well every game, or that I just dont feel good enough to play ranked yet, any advice from anyone would be amazing (who plays ranked ofc), I dont know thank you!
Once I had a few game on syndra where I tried to have 10cs/m for the first 15-20 minutes just to have a feel of how good my champion feels if I am farmed up. I think it was good for me, because I played too aggressively and gave up a lot of cs for trading , now I am aware that what I lose for a trade. So I think “10cs/m” is not good in long term, but can be helpful if you just use it to explore different styles of the champions ( especially if you play extremely aggressive) As for live coaching, I think it is good, but it is different for everyone. Someone resonates better with it some not, and I think elo bracket is a variable as well. When it is a new concept, it is more helpful like this is an example of how to do . And then you can remember how it was. Sometime good, but it is a tool and have to use it the correct way, with logical reasoning why it is better in that case. Most of the time I think VOD is better, but sometimes I think live coaching can give a good grasp on the topic,as a starting point to the learning process.
I remember he its trolling on bel'veth to not go lethal tempo. I loved lethal tempo, but it was very situational and anti-thetical to her actual play pattern even though it seemed counter-intuitive that she wouldn't go lethal tempo. The vast majority of the time, as was consensus across all region high elo bel'veth players, was conquerer - and maybe PTA. I remember we actually ran the tests and early to mid game, is was basically equivalent damage just without the healing xD
My games have been so much better in split 3. I feel like I'm finally not being punished on my main account in Bronze and the MMR got reset to how I've been playing recently rather than the full history of the account. And the smurfs / trolls feel much fewer and far between so far which has been awesome.
CS is a prime example of easy to learn but extremely hard to master to a point of diminishing returns at a certain point because if that's your goal you occupy too much of your mental stack too much. Not to be confused with downtime. Its like spacing. You wouldn't tell someone to only focus on that in silver because while it can auto win you the lane. But you need a fundamental knowledge of a lot of other things to express it. Because if you are unaware of a Zeds where abouts and facecheck the ability to space does little for you
yup diminishing return and fundamental knowledge of A LOT OTHER things are two components of why hyperfocusing on one aspect of skillsets is HORRIBLE advise. ...at some point, putting time into learning the first basic skill becomes so much harder to achieve next level that it becomes more efficient to learn something else to witness a sudden spike in performance. ...there's a reason why kids dont just learn one subject all the way to PhD before learning another one. bruce lee might be correct about practicing one kick 10,000 times but that's only because it's compared to practicing 10,000 different kicks once. a much more realistic comparison would be between practicing a kick another 5,000 times vs practicing punching 5000 times
plus the fact we dont have that buffer anymore when you rank up, every other season if you had even 1 lp in that rank you didnt get deranked back down to the other rank before
Back in season 11 when it was the pve powerfarm jg meta I would shoot for 10cspm on Kayn. I would usually get 7-9. I remember the game when I finally got 10, my team ff'd because the enemy nunu was out impacting me 4 levels down.
I was emerald with positive winrate climbing my way. Split changes and I drop to gold2 with 46%wr. 1 thing that is for sure, is that the players after the split were NOT the same. No way in hell they are the same players.
Live coaching is the equivalent of playing chess with a professional. To review in the moment, if you don't have a basis for that review, it can enlighten but will only teach you what has happened, not concepts that have yet to apply or are considered fundamental.
The ranked reset improved my quality of games and made me climb an extra 400 LP because my teammates seemed more competent and understood the game more. But I could be coped out
Man, banger podcast that I'm leaving two comments in one day haha. First off, I can understand where you're coming from Curtis about livecoaching; however, I think your argument against it was a bit reactionary. I think "live coaching" is better viewed as another tool in the toolbox and is something that will have a time and a place. That experience Leena got is something that she most likely will never forget and there is something so powerful in that ability to make a direct connection from "learning objective" to "actual real-time impact". When you're playing League by yourself, there are so many things going on that even if Leena had made it a learning objective to "ward and lean" and did it in the game. Eventually the chaos of the game for the next 25 or 30 mins can take away the ability to clearly see the impact of that one instance of warding and leaning in-game. Sure, you can go back and review your game to see if you did it properly or not, but sometimes that doesn't always give you that aha! moment. Live coaching can give the learner the ability to free up mental stack since they now have the "coaching training wheel", which I believe allows the learner to actually visually see impact and internalize the lessons, instead of the moment being completely lost due to the cognitive demand of the game. I think a good example of this I can compare to was when I was a kid learning soccer. My coach was trying to teach us how to "open up" our body to receive the ball and the importance of it to be able to position ourselves properly to later pass the ball. Listening and watching the coach do it in training helped me a little, but it wasn't after he stopped the session. Physically oriented me, and pointed out in that specific scenario what to focus on, that it finally clicked with me. So no, I don't think it will stop people or stunt their ability to learn League. If anything, under the right circumstances, I think live coaching, can really shine a light and help your viewers as you say "achieve their goals faster".
Hi Lina here! This is exactly how I felt and also I do wanna make it clear that Neckless told me that you can't only have life coaching - it has to be something rare and well thoughtout. I think outside of connecting a learning objective to ingame it also allowed me to experience the real power of my champion (Azir) and knowing what's possible if I keep improving. It was motivating to see myself play so well and knowing the level I could get to at some point just with minor adjustments like having a ward out so I can play aggressively more safely.
Is it worth it to join any of the academies if you don't play any of the approved champions for that role? I'm a jungler and literally 0 of my champions I usually play are in the list of recommended champions. My pool usually consists of a combination of 3 of the following champions: Graves, Jarvan, Rek'sai, Kha'zix, Viego, Gragas, Ekko and Elise. I got to mid emerald on my own in the last few splits, but I honestly don't really know what to work on next.
The recommended champions are for Emerald and below. As an above Emerald player you will get tons of value from jungle academy. You can play any champ and get reviews on that champion, use the community and fundamentals resources on the website - Nathan
I finished last season at D3. I placed Em3 with 4 wins in 5 games played. I finished last season with a 60% WR. The lobby is full of players who have absolutely no business being in emerald. I have even seen streamers in Diamond lobbies right now. T1 was in one of my games. I have just recently gotten to E1 and it's been a climb so degrading I do not honestly think I will be back next season. Everybody playing is pissed off and trolling in every rank. I honestly do not want to do it anymore its like a 2nd job to try and get back where I left off last season. I am not playing or streaming so I get nothing but a few decompress games with my buddies from work on a day off. No way im time sinking this again. I am going to hit Diamond again then stop just to prove to myself I CAN do it. No way im going further. 3 splits WAY to much. Its going to destroy the game. 1 is plenty.
To use your example of breathing, bronze players literally can't breathe automatically, they need to focus actively on breathing in and out. Which is why it's beneficial to focus on improving cs'ing (don't make the sole focus of your game cs'ing but practice cs'ing in practice tool), until they can in fact 'breathe' automatically without thinking about it.
This has had a huge negative effect on me as a platinum player with all the higher ranked people running it down because I don't intuitively know the correct play they are used to and they feel like ik beneath them so they just give up. On the other hand I've been pushed waaay more as a player in my role with more skilled players.
Ive been on the somewhat opposite side of this for this split. Usually sit around E1-E2 and got placed like G1. My lanes have been way easier but trying to get people to do nash or assign lanes somewhat correctly has been a nightmare. Perma-aram till someone wins
Didn't relise the change was wondering why emy4 felt so much harder XD Also with the LS ramp, I completely agree whenever I'm teaching people AKA my friends mostly how to play league. I tell them to try and get six csm in it and it's because they're new and six is a feasible amount with the amount of mistakes they're going to make
I don’t like that’s it’s 3 splits but I like that they made it harder to reach tiers. Emerald was like top 15-20% while platinum used to be like top 10-12% in earlier years. That meant that Emerald basically had no meaning and too many people with too much discrepancy where in that tier. Furthermore Gold and Platinum meant essentially nothing when I remember times where people already thought gold was hard for the average player to achieve.
Hey while you talked about LS you said that we should never pick annie but I find her to be a pretty strong aeo midlaner, would love to hear. Not attached to the champ but she is simple and fun
I would disagree with the comment at 1:25:30 ish about pekinwoof. Yes he's played so much league that he knows it like the back of his hand, but he's actually really good at explaining what he's doing in the game. For content that is primarily entertainment, i've probably learnt more about mid lane and what champion matchups look like from him than any other educational content.

Last day of the season, on my main account, i lost 5 times the game that would promote me to diamond. I had afks in my teams, 4 times in the last day of the season. At the start of this season, after going 3-2 in placements, i am gold 1
A bunch of friend and I started a challenge a couple of weeks ago: Everyone has to take a fresh account in Iron/Bronze and play 100 ranked games in soloQ (no duoQ allowed). Keep in mind that our elo goes from Emerald to M500LP. So far the junglers have had the easier time while ADCs started struggling against smurfs in Gold/Plat. On the other hand our Master tier support got a 14 day suspention for inting and flaming around Plat elo. Almost everyone thought the climb was gonna be easier. I Guess we're masochists. When it comes to matchmaking we noticed that our team was consistently (and collectively) 400-600 LP BELOW the average of the enemy team, we don't see that in any other account we have. For istance I was starting the challenge and I was playing jungle in Bronze elo and got matched with an Emerald 4 jungler. (It was not a placement game). I can see the frustration coming from the honest bronze players who started the game already tilted becasue of that.
They've been gradually adding improvements to their smurf detection system (Vanguard included with it's TPM 2.0 identifier); so you guys all prob got flagged early on as smurfs and the matchmaking you're given is adjusted for it already.
honestly the ranked system just gets worse and worse every year. they keep making miserable changes and it’s hard to stay motivated in between both the fact that ranks are massively elo-inflated and the fact that it takes hundreds of games just to climb on an old account. i don’t even know what adding a third split is supposed to fix.
The ranks are fairly deflated this split compared to the other 2 this season. At the very least, elo inflated ranks in league are still way more exclusive by distribution than any other major competitive game out there. I think they just need to put more low master players back in diamond since masters is supposed to entail well, mastery of the game
According to some of the players i've run into while getting my accounts back up to emerald a couple hundred games a split isn't that much. Some of these absolute giga-chads of gold elo are banging out thousands a month. Ran into someone with over 3700 in the last 4 months, and already 400 this split
You are literally experiencing right now emotionally how it feels when riot deflates the ranked ladder and yet you are complaining about ranked inflation. How do you explain this cognitive dissonance to yourself? Did you think that only a certain number of players above you were rank inflated? No, you were as well.
@@tatamigalaxy-i5r Adding to your point, the vast majority of players in league have never experienced a hard reset. This split's reset is the closest we've been to a hard reset in a very very long time, and i think it's really showing how many people were inflated in the past. I'm running into many last split emerald accounts that are struggling to climb in gold/plat lobbies (50+ games with flat or negative win rates). Myself and my friends that are emerald+ are not having any trouble climbing with high win rates through gold/plat, albeit progress is slower than past seasons.
Im emerald in 4 roles, i created a new acc go lv 30 , destroy enemie team with massive gap, placed iron 4, unistalled this trash game not wasting more my time
Good take though i don't agree ! about the 10 cs / min LS thing; personnally the 10 cs / min advice was for me the main contributor to me climbing from gold all the way to diamond, now of course , this advice doesn't give you the correct steps to follow to be a better player , but it is a nice and simple OBJECTIVE to have in mind, as an adc main, after starting to follow the 10 cs/min advice, it helped me cleanse my mind of useless concerns in low elo : dragon timer, other lanes performance, my supports mechanics etc ... and instead that gave me a nice ROUTINE to follow everygame, secure every last cs until my team offers me opportunities, constantly trying to get 10 cs / min taught me which matchups that was impossible against, which cs to give up and which to go for, when to crash and when to slowpush and other things. 10 cs/min is not about ACHIEVING the number, it's about having it as your primary motivation in the game, instead of trying to think about a million different objectives.
The irony of rank deflating this split is that everyone got inflated when they added the Emerald tier. So it's probably just what it was like 2 years ago 🤷
A hard ranked reset each split is bad for most players, as most do not have the time to full-time grind the game and a reset each split feels like you've lost your all your progress made especially with how brutal this recent reset has been. On the other hand, I do agree that masters especially has become quite inflated especially in split 2 this season, e.g. in oce with over 1000 masters players with many who used to be low diamond, so I do like how they are deflating the ranks. I hope riot fixes LP gains and instead implements 2 soft resets a season like they did last season
I can't understand why the hidden MMR ranks people in platinum or emerald, but their placed visible rank is silver/gold. It's as if you have to prove you are still that good, but you have favourable LP gains so you don't even have to prove it that hard. Just play enough games to get back to your visible matching hidden rank. I feel like when there was an off season, it made sense to bump people down, they had all year to climb back again and the extended break with season changes may genuinely have knocked some players down in ranking if they hadn't stayed current with the meta changes. As it is now, I'm playing low gold games with an emerald ability level. The games aren't fun because the majority of players are well below my skill level. And I know I have to play another 20 to 40 games just to get back to a reasonable skill bracket for my experience and ability level. It's like being told as a 16 year old to go play with 12 year olds and work your way up by proving you are better than them. No fun for anyone.
my problem honestly has to do with 3 split. i hate how it actually makes me play more. I wish it was like a long time ago where I could just play league around near end of the season.
My major sentiment is still that 3 splits per year is far too many.
Couldn’t agree more. Two seems like the perfect number.
with the number 3 you cannot talk about "far too much". its one too much. 2 is good/ fine, i do understand if people want it back to one tho
I really miss when it was just one season and a preseason
3 splits is doable if you do hard reset for split 1 and 2 mild resets for split 2 and 3
The 10 cs thingie reminds me of Goodhart's Law: "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure".
lol, how interesting. its also if riot gave out lp based on "performance" or "grade" so they get the measure up, instead of completeing the actual target
imLS has a pattern of dishing out oversimplistic near-useless advises, all the way to horrible suggestions, especially given his rank.
telling someone to aim for 10cs/m is only slightly better than telling someone to aim to crush at least 7 structures to win. it overplaces farming to the highest priority, without relative consideration of any other actions.
does he honestly think a new player will have enough wisdom to not take that as an absolute, not having a clue how circumstantial decision making is, in this game? especially in jungle, especially as amumu a ganking champion. is LS really that tone deaf he's incapable of putting on someone else shoes and listen to himself?
as if that's not bad enough he gave an even worse one to someone i assume is a new player, worse if he's stuck losing
@@xKCLoL yes, but you already put in 100 times more nuance than LS, into your statement
Scummy ass company when it comes to their leadership and top of the brass decision making.
i mean whats wrong with deflating apex ranks ? it sounds like a good thing
They deflated high elo, and by that way, they made Gold-Diamond elos a absolute disaster for every single person, idk what they were smoking.
IDK It feels very similar to me I'm emerald 4 rn was emerald 4 last season took me a week to get there.@@sedarium5307
IDK how I'm somehow much higher than cause I was emy 4 last season and I am this season 2. Ig ornn jungle is my calling XD.
10 cs/m for a brand new player is insane. literally insane. esp on jgl
i barely manage 7 lol. i mostly average like 6 cspm on my good champions
That the advice I can give you 😊😊
@tomiboyy
If you saw the vod Curtis said good farm is a by product of other things which is true.
LS tells people to focus on 10cs per minute so that that fundamental(csing) becomes autopilot and they can focus on other things to improve.
@@666Kaca its crazy how much they ragged on the 10cs thing while not realizing it just meant focus on efficient cs
@@reufury7 i dont need you to wish me luck, im challenger rank 1 already. jk lol
8csm doenst come from that it comes with macro

Just seems like a shitty tactic to getting people to grind more (and it's worked)
consistency is key, keep acing losses and you will climb
@@Alex-ys1wo I know, and I am climbing, but it just feels SO much harder and the game quality feels SO much worse.
So accurate. I'm gold and I'm currently in bronze struggling to climb.
The issue is that we've reached the point league has a over 10000 hour barrier to entry.
To reach silver.
lmao this is so validating, i thought i was an absolute emerald bum for only getting 7-8cspm but everything you said is correct, there is a lot to think about during the game that contributes to this
Well isn't your goal when you go to the gym often to lift heavier weights?
I had my friend live coach me when I was learning the game. Super useful not having to worry about the map when starting out and being able to focus on lasthitting and using my abilities
Honestly, as somewhat of a LS fan myself; It would be great if you guys could do an episode with him. I’m sure he won’t refuse it. PLEASE make it happen!!
Lop did you skip the part where he ignores then whenever they reach out?
Yeah, I really wish they spoke too. I feel like Nate and Curtis would be perfect at explaining " overwhelming the mental stack" as a concept to LS. Plus, what Curtis mentioned about just straight up watching vods of players together and seeing what different or similar conclusions they come to would be really fun to watch.
Same that sounds super interesting I’d just like to hear how they would react to each others perspectives on things in the moment if it does happen hope it can be civil sounds super interesting
his ego seems to be too big to accept
Yeah theres no way you drop from gold to iron and only have it be your teammates fault
Gold is piss atm
Omg thank god, this video popped on my screen. I am a high diamond player and I was about to lose my mind in emerald 4 negative wr.
I was actually thinking about quitting league because of this split (or at least for a while)
I got Emerald 4 last season and since the new season I can't get over Gold 4.
Exact same for me, it’s horribly discouraging. I have horrible win rates on champs where my stats look good, I just can’t win
same here, could be 10-0 after 15min and still lose 10 in a row, matchmaking is broken, somehow my opponent is all much higher lvl and my team full of bronze every round
I just don't play ranked for the fist week or two in a new split to wait for the ladder to rebalance itself

When you've lost 100 games, you probably played around 200 games or so, so any loss is
That's me! Thanks for the advice, I hadn't thought of it that way. Time to rack up those losses i guess
This is such a good advice, alright then, proceed to troll games 😂
Good ideas!
@@vitalyuchtercope mentality. Jungle can often determine whether a lane succeeds or not. Think ganking, counterganking, invading, etc.
Needed to see the first part of this video.. been thinking these gold/silvers been acting different.. been a nail biter most games for this grunt.
He could try to understand his audience better and where they're coming from but he's not.
issue with advise from folks like LS, is they operate under ASSUMPTIONS that are highly unlikely in bronze. they dont seem to be consciously aware of their presuppositions
you're only able to invade effectively if there's roam leverage. but roam leverage is pointless if laners dont rotate
leading a dive is only powerful if laners can follow up your dive
ganks are only powerful if your laners look at minimap more than once per 5min and know to setup ganks
yet LS and his peers usually assume those 'advance' behavior arepart of bronze skillsets. yet bronze players are assumed to not know farming is (most) important?
that only shows how out of touch folks like LS could be. bronze players know about 'advanced' knowledge but clueless about the 'basic' skill?
the kind of absolutism playstyle informed by his kind of absolutism principle is also asinine, given how drastic one should be playing amumu vs fiddlestick.
amumu excels at ganking, fiddlestick is a poor early ganker. telling ludwig to focus on farming on both powerganker and powerfarmer is so ignorant, that it can only be equated to a bronze laner expecting his jungler to gank every minute and all lane soloing all dragons
The sylas one is so real I see so many games where he is like 8/1/2 100 cs at 22 mins. Maybe the fizz and akali one are true but I play those champs and heavily value farm allways have 7-8 per game maybe it’s an issue tho and I should be roaming more
Eloquently put honestly.
@@uniqe_apple9763 Sylas is an example of knowing your power curve. If your champ is extremely dominant early/mid game. You don't necessarily need to focus on farming and you're wasting your champion's advantage by not trying to make plays around the peak of your power curve/spike.
@@Agdem_ I don’t know I can’t think of really and reason to have 5 cs per min even when dropping some waves to go to fights u otherwise would not have

Yeah I got into a ranked game yesterday where my team had 0 KP by 25 mins, the skill distribution seems way over the place rn
WHY DID YOU CUT THE "jingle jingle jingle song" PART???
Lost 😅 respect hard for these guys now 😅😅😅
Same, i think most people complaining were broken champs abusers that got into low elo again but now they don't have their broken thingy to scape from it.
+20 wins? So how is your lose streak going right now xd?
Disable the nvidia overlay in nvidia settings. Should help 👍
@@machinee30 Just did so, hopefully it helps. Thank you gamer
I think it's kind of funny that the Saltu stickers are on Nathan's side and MLA stickers are Curtis's, but the Orriana ball & Rek'sai tunnels are swapped
Last split I played only 50 games, ended D1. This split I've already played 32 and I'm barely D3 LOL
By the time I have those games in it's gonna be near the end of the split
Way too much commitment/grinding for me.
I miss Curtis' Clip corner. It was good to get into the details. I wish you'd bring it back every now and then. I get that it's tough for audio only listeners
What were you gonna say about Annie again?
Yo seriously, I've been maining Annie for 10 years, now. I really want to know why I shouldn't play her! I'm not a 1-trick, and I want to know why I should drop her!
I assume his reason for advising against playing Annie to learn the game is that she cannot separate trading from wave management, since she really wants to stack her passive on minions, and does not teach many skills that can be transferred to other mages.
@@murphyslaw3483 Yeah but didn't he state Annie's would manage waves and never trade?
Thats very clue I whish I would do it but I insteadly played after the new split Beginns and I’m struggling to get out of diamond with negative wr

LS asking a bronze player to farm 10cs per minute, like come on. He is out of touch and delusional.

So I'm not insane and the split 3 matchmaking is genuinely awful for ranked? Thank God
Its crazy
What was crazy for my experience, is that we played DuoQ for 2 weeks w my friend (we were Low Diamond MMR last season
He was D3, i was E1)
And we were literally struggling to climb out of Platinum.
It already was in Split 2
Peaked Emerald for the first time after coming back to the game In years.
Does not buying pinks apply to all ranks and roles? What is the cutoff if any?
Once I had a few game on syndra where I tried to have 10cs/m for the first 15-20 minutes just to have a feel of how good my champion feels if I am farmed up. I think it was good for me, because I played too aggressively and gave up a lot of cs for trading , now I am aware that what I lose for a trade. So I think “10cs/m” is not good in long term, but can be helpful if you just use it to explore different styles of the champions ( especially if you play extremely aggressive)
As for live coaching, I think it is good, but it is different for everyone.
@@GubbiGap Exactly! Also sorry I mispelled your name.
@@briancho7730 Didn't get a notification on your answer (thanks youtube xD). No worries on misspelling my name xD
1 is plenty.
have been mid-heigh emerald for the past year or so, this split i'm 40 games in with a 45% WR in gold 1.
Didn't relise the change was wondering why emy4 felt so much harder XD
Also with the LS ramp, I completely agree whenever I'm teaching people AKA my friends mostly how to play league.
For content that is primarily entertainment, i've probably learnt more about mid lane and what champion matchups look like from him than any other educational content.
you guys should break down tarzaneds stream. some of the worst mental ive ever seen. or tfblade
TF blade is in an elo which you will never reach. Dude gains +27-28 and -13 IN CHALLENGER ELO.
@@citizencj3389 and how do you know he wont? XD we are all humans just like tf blade, i reach challenger on euw server, even harder than na. and im just a human, just like you, or the guy that posted original comment. just because u think u cant doesnt mean everyone cant
That makes sense honestly, if 1 team has a smurf on it, then the average of the other 4 players should be lower to compensate.
@@tatamigalaxy-i5r was thinking the same thing, stupid take by OP
@@tatamigalaxy-i5r Adding to your point, the vast majority of players in league have never experienced a hard reset. This split's reset is the closest we've been to a hard reset in a very very long time, and i think it's really showing how many people were inflated in the past. I'm running into many last split emerald accounts that are struggling to climb in gold/plat lobbies (50+ games with flat or negative win rates). Myself and my friends that are emerald+ are not having any trouble climbing with high win rates through gold/plat, albeit progress is slower than past seasons.
Can someone link the post about mmr changes
It’s in the most recent patch notes, first paragraph
Most of my friends who were Diamond and master in split 2 are now in Emerald 3-2
Im emerald in 4 roles, i created a new acc go lv 30 , destroy enemie team with massive gap, placed iron 4, unistalled this trash game not wasting more my time
Low iq
Pls tell us what the article from Riot is named. I really really want to read and share it.
