I'm glad that he was miserable and spent his remaining days completely racked with guilt over what he did to his true love. He didn't deserve her at all.

I HAAAATED Qianlong by the end, and I have a standing ovation to Wallace for his portrayal, lol. He didn't deserve his children either. The man was a right, royal piece of horse dung all around.

Giving the fact that Zhen Huan hated Ruyi's aunt so much it's a big deal that Zhen is speaking up for Ruyi. I honestly believe that they would've been great friends if Zhen wasn't so full of anger. They are both intelligent women.
In the beginning, they were soul mates and madly in love. Ruyi never wanted to be the Empress. But she did and told him he would never be alone anymore. She was truly devoted to him. His harsh treatment of her began with the Cold Palace. She was there for several years and many people tried to kill her. That's where she contracted TB. He betrayed her. He blamed Ruyi for all the evil that was done. If he had truly loved her he would know that she would never ever do such evil. He betrayed her. He realized the power he had and was consumed with it. It changed him. Hongli was lost to her. Ruyi just wanted to be loved and to love. Did anyone notice what he was working on when Zhen Huan came to visit him to tell him that the funeral was not appropriate for a Empress. He was working on the Plum Pavilion. He died in the Plum Pavilion. I hope that the plum tree showing buds and regrowth symbolizes that they will be together in the next life. I think he regretted what he had done to Ruyi when he said that he was a just widower. From the time she died till the time he died, he suffered immensely in pain. He got his karma. She was gone and he had to live the rest of his life without her.
I dont feel sorry for him at all. All the things he did and said to Ruyi were bad, but when he went crazy for Rong, and then the women from the brothel, it was ripping her heart out. He took her for granted in everything. But when he ordered her to make Rong submit because he never felt that way before, it crushed her true first love. His jealously was so far out of control even though he sent the guard to her to begin with, and she did NOTHING. Yet he not only had the harem that continued to grow but now outside, unclean women. He knew his empress and conqubines hurt and killed each other and the kids but did nothing. He went bad time and time again to women he punished. He also was so hot for Ling because she was freaky in bed and that he kept forgiving her too. It cost him countless people and children. In the end, her child sat the throne. If I were Ruyi and he did reach Heaven, I would still turn him down.
I think you're thinking of a different clip. This one is titled Zhen Huan. I just watched the one with Hanxiangjian. The titles of these clips are eye-grabbers, lol, and often make a big deal about nothing much.
The emperor got what he deserved as he treated Ruyi pretty bad during their marriage and never defended her as Ruyi endured many struggles and malicious things being done to her. At the end, I’m glad Ruyi care less about his cowardness and didn’t even bother to tell him that she’s dying and left him all my his miserable self
Ruyi was his one true love and he never really cared enough about her ,even when she died he never honoured her properly ,he was like a spoiled brat who if he didn’t get his way then there was a price to pay .
Its just tv drama, no need to be so strict and whatsoever.. the aim is just for entertainment
