Great video guys. That is an awesome part of the world. We used to sail up there a few years back. When the midges bite, wipe the area as soon as you can with tea, either green or black. Takes away the itch. If you don’t that little, itch will turn into quite a good sized sore after a few days. We just had a bottle on the boat with some made up green tea, that we could wipe on all the itchy spots.

A good bit of kit to carry on Fraser are the little airhorns that people use for kids sports / boats - you can get them from BCF etc - and they scare the crap out of the dingos.
They also have the added benefit of attracting other peoples attention

My mum is allergic heavily to both deet, and midgies and mozzies, but loves the outdoors as much as the rest of the family. She swears by “natures botanical” which is made by only using natural oils and products and owned by a small business in WA. I now use it myself almost exclusively as it’s the only thing I wear that almost guarantees me coming home from a fishing trip without a bite, highly recommended

Haven't watched the video fully, but you can easily make it to west side to Awinya if you take the turn off track that gets you down to the creek opposite Awinya camp, even if high tide - you guys would breeze over. Only issue I think you may have is Woooralie to Awinya , but I may be wrong after watching. Not sure if you have been on west side before, but it is 100 x better than the east side!.

  • @drewjohn6847

we traveled a lot with young kids, a mixture of 1ltr baby oil, 100ml Dettol and 20ml eucalyptus oil works great, it is oily but is safe and effective. Shake and apply....

Hah, been there at some colorful rocks on the beach / our driver‘s name was Murray, he had an MAN Bus and he was really quick…heard that a lot of djungle burnt down, so very interested in seeing how it looks nowadays. Oh and we also went swimming in a very cold and clear lake… wonderful area. Dingos were an issue indeed, had some trying to steal our backpack.

  • @marvegner2272

Picaradin is , from my layman research, considerably safer than deet . I used to use deet so much in the Canadian bush to ward off black flies and mosquitoes and tiny no see ems ,maybe the same as your midges that I would get headaches from it. So I no longer use it.
Other thoughts are (it does work )fans that keeps a breeze blowing on you and around you ,none of the bugs like that.

Family adventures! Gotta love them! Beautiful baby and mom! Chris , hope you realize how lucky you are!
Also Chris, (I’m in Florida) Referring to the big stick for the aggressive dingos, and I don’t know how Australia’s laws are about defensive weapons. But y’all have a dingy for”fishing”or.....? So what would be the problem for
you to have a speargun or Hawaii sling , or long spear, or even a flare gun for protection? Unfortunately, here
in the USA hiking and camping have become a little more of a safety concern thanks to a wide open
southern boarder with who knows what kind of crazies wandering in! Just a thought for y’all. Stay safe and healthy! We enjoy your adventures!

Be careful with dingos on Fraser Island, especially those that carry a pair of scissors around with them. My gosh, Oakley is a little cutie, I recon he's going to grow up being a little heart breaker. We always used Aeroguard when growing up and used them on my two girls as well but there is also a multitude of things you can use now when traveling around, you may find you have to use a multitude of items to help protect Oakley. For prevention think on the lines of mozzie nets, coils, electric zappers (they come in camping format now), preventative sprays on Oakley and around Oakley as well such things as his seat, and around his bed, And maybe something like Stingoes for when he does get bitten (I remember my mum used to dab a little vinegar but that's a real old fashioned remedy), Betadine is a good antiseptic that doesn't sting much compared to others, and sympathy Band-aids as well as proper Band-aids for when he hurts himself. Prevention is always better that cure but you may have to provide for both.
