    Greetings from Singapore.
    I broke the handle of my Ecco 300 back in December last year and switched to Professionel 3 600 for my 90x45x45 tank.
    But I still love the Ecco 300 after using it for the past six years and just never felt comfortable when I am servicing the Pro 3 600 although it is obviously more powerful than Ecco 300.
    Took out the Ecco 300 two hours ago after noticing that the outflow rate of the Pro 3 600 weakening over the weekend and got Ecco 300 back to work....Just that it was quite hard to close up the Ecco cos I forgot to apply the Eheim vaseline gel on the O ring.
    I will have to thank you cos you gave me the idea of putting the mini balls in the hole on top of the cover.
    My set up for the Ecco Pro is slightly different.....The inlet is fitted with a external prefilter to prevent the filter from clogging and reducing the outflow.
    The outlet is fitted with an air diffuser to provide aeration.
    For the filter media,I put Seachem Matrix at the bottom tray,Eheim Biomech in the middle tray and lastly a pack of Seachem Purigen with Substrat Pro at the top tray.

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad your Ecco pro is working well. Your media distribution sounds efficient, but I would probably put Eheim biomech in the bottom tray because it should clog not as fast as Seachem Matrix. In my case, Seachem Matrix clogs really fast and once its clogged with dirt it becomes ineffective, so I'm trying to keep it somewhere it the upper trays which don't get as much dirt.

    • @Team-Havenerz

      @@tropicalfishhub So how is your media setup like?
      Care to share?I am also constantly looking for ways to make my filter more efficient.

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Team-Havenerz I usually try to keep either sponges or some mechanical media at the bottom tray because it collects most of the muck. Recently, I had alfagrog in my bottom tray; it captures dirt quite well and doesn't clog easily. I keep Eheim substrat pro and Seachem Matrix in second and third trays.

    EHEIM can be the cheapest way to go if you get them 1st. I have purchased several cheap knock offs. Then purchased the real thing. Great video. Solid company.

    You don’t have to clean an impeller once a month. If you do there’s an issue. Try using a prefilter on your inlet. I use eheim prefilter with oase orange biomaster sponges installed. Rinse once a week. You will hardly have to open the filter then

    Thank you SO MUCH! I found the manual for setting my 300 up very confusing when it came to priming. Doesn't say you might need to pump it several times (over 10 for ours) and doesn't say how it works or that you don't need the plug turned on (as I certainly expected when it comes to getting water in). You saved me and my wife from going mad ;)

    • @tropicalfishhub

      Thank you! i'm glad the video was useful. Actually, you should never prime it when its on; pressure from the engine will be disabling self-priming mechanism. Mine usually primes from the first or second try. It also depends on the level of water in your tank and how high it is

    Hi, I followed the video but it didn't worked well to me. The pump is now.making a noise. The seller checked it as it believes I could have lost a joint during the process but everything is in place. The rotor keeps making a noise and I don't understand what the reason could be, I'll have to clean it once again tomorrow as some dust could maybe fallen into the rotor cabinet. In the mean time if you've any idea I would be glad to get it. Thank you for your time on posting this video and eventually if you've an idea. Best regards

    Exactly what I was looking for, just picked one of these up it’s my first time using a canister filter so this will help massively, I was told by the store to make sure the O ring gets kept well lubricated is this something you do if so what do you use as a lubricant.

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad the video is useful. I only lubricate O ring on this model once in several months, and only if I wash it. It will stay well lubricated long unless you wash it. I use a silicone based lubricant. I got it on eBay and its for general use. You just need to make sure that the lubricant has no chemicals in it.

    • @Team-Havenerz
      @Team-Havenerz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a sachet of lubricant from Eheim.....Using lubricate it once every six months.
      It is a good filter but you have got to be a bit careful when opening and closing the filter and with the handle too.I used it for six years before my carelessness broke the handle of the Ecco Pro 300.

    Good video. Have you tried putting a layer of course foam and medium in the very bottom tray and then all the bio media the last two trays?
    Does the water go from the pre filter foam to the bottom and then work its way up and then out out the tank?

    • @tropicalfishhub

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should get quiet within an hour or so, I think your canister has lots of air trapped inside. If it doesn't get quieter you might try switching it off and priming again. Sometimes just switching it off and on helps to get the air out.

      Hi just to let you know nearly a week running now and it’s very quiet, not completely silent but can only really hear a gentle hum if there is no other noise in the room, I figured out that most of the noise was coming from my outlet tube touching the cabinet causing vibration, I am going to lubricate the impeller when I do my first cleaning of it and see if I can achieve the complete silence that others have reported.

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would choose Ecco pro 300 because it has more trays so you can put there different types of media and I think it can also fit more media than Experience 250. At least it my case I can fit 2,5kg of media in ecco pro and only 2kg in 250. It also has a pre-filter which is very useful when cleaning.

    hi, my impeller started to make a noise since last time I cleaned it. Do you have any idea what may be the issue? I do not know if it is related but during the cleaning, the white shaft was also out of its place but I placed it back after cleaning its house as well. When you place the impeller into its hole, it normally feels like sucked it by a magnet (as you called "jumps in there"). Now, this magnetic like pull is not that strong anymore as well.

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @tropicalfishhub
      @tropicalfishhub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amyogata5833 Older models in particular will be producing some noise. Replacing your impeller might help (if it is as old as canister). The level of noise will also depend on how quiet your room is; in a small room I can always hear canisters working.

    These canister filters are very badly designed and suffer from leaking all the time. Having to grease the o-rings constantly with vaseline etc. How a company with such a previous good reputation can make such rubbish is beyond me. They are not cheap and not worth the money. It should be the easiest thing in the world in these days to design a filter/ pump that does not leak, but I suppose that there is less profit in it. Next time I replace my filter it won’t be an Eheim! There should be only one seal for the lid and a couple of washers for the connecting tubes. Instead we have all this complicated set up which is quite unnecessary, except to sell ‘service kits’!
