I have loved these guys content for years. Everything they do is just absolutely fantastic, from their choreography, costumes, choice of settings, camera work, ability to tell a story with little to no words, all of it is just some of the best content on youtube. The Knight of Hope is a must watch. Even their more silly videos like Sword Fight Club are top notch. Always enjoy seeing their stuff even though I have seen it all before. The language is Czech indeed. The medieval Bohemia and Moravia had Czech speaking nobility and people living in the fertile parts of the country were also mainly Czech speaking. The settlements in higher altitude were often settled by Germanic-speaking peoples, also the burghers were often Germanic- it depended where the feudal lord was able to find the settlers, because more people meant more money 🙂 The administrative language was latin, from the 14th century the Czech language was used extensively.
I congratulate you. You have discovered one of the best fencing groups in the Czech Republic. If not the best (this is not irony). By the way, the video about the shield vs shield fight comes from their seminars, which they organize several times a year for the fencing "public". Laurus Nobilis - messer vs meser duel fight - spoken in Czech ;-)
For the Kingdom Come stuff they should have cooperated with Doba Karlova reenactment group. Those guys have some of the best lat medieval clothing out there!
@@basil_jackson Yes, but Doba Karlova doesn't really deserve a promo. Certainly not since they tried to make a movie themselves.I can congratulate them for proving a fact: Actors are needed for a film and not just props.

But with their range and huge damage they make it easy to even take out groups of armoured enemies (as long as you keep good spacing and don’t let them surround you). And this excellent channel gets its fame spread. I discoevered Adorea Olomouc from two friends, one American and one indeed Czech. Actually, the Czech came first... Incredible channel, the guy deserves much more support than what he currently has. From what I have seen, it should be a company of three to five HEMA students that could possibly be actors as well, for this reason I see that their short films and fight scenes are very well orchestrated and choreographed - someone could say a professional level of work. They are surely of Czech origin, for this reason I see many weapons that I see of Germanic influence. I'm not surprised, though, as Czechia was for quite a long part of its history part of the extended Germanic world. So, they combine their acting ability with their HEMA knowledge and the results are astonishing. They are so good, that this channel needs to grow. If only they would be employed in a film - I would surely go to a cinema to watch one of their movies! Have a nice time.
There are curently 8 members of Adorea and all of them are very good fencers.(I wouldn't call them students) Some of them do fencing in movies but none of them does hema.
A few guys from a Historical fan club put the Might of Hollywood productions to utter shame. They are easy to talk to if you happen upon a video session 😊
That duel with the Messer blades was brilliant. Beautiful choreography, including the camera work s part of the choreography (Tyranth talked about it in his bts of their For the Crown). It was an excellent video all the way around. (I expected poison in the cup as well hahaha). But there were so few words spoken, but the tale was well and fully told. I'm thrilled this video was covered here, so I could learn about it.
Love these guys, Glad you checked em out. I think I mentioned em to ya a few months ago...... but KNEW you would find em eventually. These dudes rocked. They helped Warhorse out with the combat as well from what I heard.... but that was years ago, could be wrong, but don't think so. CHEERS METATRON! Always a wonderful day when you pop up.
"How does Hollywood still exist?" it's a useful political tool for US soft power, momentum, people are used to consuming it and until AI, barriers of entry were insane. At least for competition that isn't happy with producing for non-English markets.
The funny thing is that a lot of the Adorea team/bladebros crew are hollywood stuntmen who decided to do this on their own time, and clearly have a passion for this unlike most mainstream hollywood directors. for example, Adam Lytle was a stuntman for black panther and endgame, so they're working in big productions alright, but the directors clearly don't exactly care that much to consult them on their choreography expertise other than the cool stunts.
It's mainly a cost thing fight choreography is really expensive due to training time. If I remember correctly, you need at least one day training for one minute of choreography. And that's when you got someone who knows the basics. And the more complex it gets, the more time it requires. And to be honest, outside our bubble, most people don't give a shut if the flight is halfway decent. So it would be a bad decision financially (which is all that matters in capitalism)
Buongiorno Metatron, agronomist here. Orange carrots were breeded as a gift to Guglielmo D'Orange (as silly as it looks). Love your disquisition about vegetables in the middle ages. We still have some paintings that portraits those differences.
And I don't notice a too drastic change in fps and shutter speed to make it all seem faster than it is, I think they're going really fast for real, if the shutter speed was faster, the sensor wouldn't be exposed enough with the amount of light that's in the scene.
The choreography and the skill of these performers is amazing, I can’t imagine how much work goes into the production of these fight scenes. Great video as always sir
6:40 I think that's Kost. It's my favourite Bohemian castle and there's a chance it might be in KCD2 as it is located in Bohemian Paradise region near Trosky castle. It's probably right behind the edge of the map though because they would have definitely shown it by now but I hope it gets mentioned at least.
12:10 They're called "knife" in German because of their construction. Swords and knives are actually built differently, in case you didn't know. The Messer "swords" are NOT crafted like swords, but are actually constructed like very large kitchen knives. That also means you get a LOT of reverberation in the handle when striking another solid object
A new reaction with a deeper analysis to Knight of Hope would be good! I might be bias because it's one of my favourite videos on TH-cam but aside from that, you've clearly learned more in the last few years and will have more to say and more to talk about I think!
The golden tomato part is kinda interesting. In Austria, we call tomatoes "Paradeiser". Its roots also come from different synonyms like "Paradiesäpfel", "Paradeisäpfel", "Goldäpfel" and "Liebesäpfel". It is said that in the 18th and 19th century, tomatoes were rare in Austrian cookbooks. But I haven't read many historical cookbooks yet to confirm this. And thank you for showing us this channel. Never heard of it.
I am really impressed by the pronunciation of your German, especially the schwa-sound at the end of words like "Messer" are hard to produce. Chapeau Monsieur!
Kcd 1 does have polearms, and it indeed appears warhorse hired Adorea for kcd2, i recognized two of their fighters in the live action trailer, and you could see their signature style of choreography in their fighting, also seen in the cutcene from the tourney they previewed earlier on
I think Shad shared the messer vs. messer one before. Enjoyed seeing it again and the channel link...I have to clear out some channels I don't watch anymore, though.
KDC does have spears and other polearms, but you can't carry them in your inventory and while riding your horse - you drop them on the ground when you mount.
Kingdom Come did have some polearms, but you couldn't store them in your inventory and they were pretty rare, meaning they were essentially exotic ad-hoc weapons. But, considering the prevalence of plate armor in the game, the mace is what you want to roll with anyways
Great German pronunciation! :D Yes, Messer means knife (specifically opposed to sword). Some people weren't allowed to wear a sword, but they could instead wear a "langes Messer" to defend themselves.
Kingdom Come Deliverance features spears and billhooks; however, they are kinda difficult to get and inconvenient to carry since they cannot be stored in your inventory and must be held in your hand at all times.
Something that's happened with film fighting, and has happened with quite a few other forms of media, is that people making new examples of it, the people doing so are imitating imitations of imitations of fighting. There are so many layers of imitation between firsthand experience and Hollywood that going to a primary source to imitate is almost completely different.
I remember Skall covering the messer duel around the time it came out? a few years ago, anyway. After seeing his reaction I went and watched the full thing 5 times in row in absolute awe of what I'd seen.

I highly recommend you check out the TH-cam videos by Akademia Szermierzy called Fior di Battaglia (divided in various chapters). Reconstruction of medieval swordfighting techniques from Italian swordmaster Fiore dei Liberi da Premariacco. They are absolutely incredible, and, not to spoil anything but THAT ONE DISARM is just... insane...
Excellent, will subscribe to them. I spoke the word, poison, half s second before you did, at the conclusion of the last fight when the victor sipped on what I presume was wine.
What I like about Adorea is the fact that it proves that historical martial arts like this can be used in a fight scene and still have it tell an effective story, who's stronger, who's the under dog, etc. And I've seen some people say that Holywood should NEVER look to HEMA because it can't do that properly. Adorea proves that wrong consistently.
I like the touch of the guy in the black shirt being shown drinking (what is presumably wine) before the duel making you fill in the blank that he's probably the reason for the duel by drunkenly saying insulting things to the guy in the grey shirt or toward his wife etc.
I read somewhere that one of the reasons carrots have been bred for the colour they have today is the House of Orange-Nassau, or Oranje dynasty, which ruled the Nederlands. Carrots as a symbol of national pride. I find it quite charming, if true that is. 🙂 You're pronunciation of German is impressive. And you're right, why does Hollywood get away with slop if things like this exist? Not every actor puts in the work like Keanu Reeves.
I highly recommend you watch that "Sword Fight Club (Mass Action Shortfilm) one. Its a lot of fun. Its basically what those old Madness Combat cartoons would look like in live action.
The fact that a Langmesser was not actually a weapon, because of the grip and the Nail, baffles me to this day. They banned peasents from carrying swords and weapons, like spears. But the peasents got around it, by smithing a blade, like a knife (a Messer) but longer, thus it was not a sword. Thus peasents could carry a Messer or even Langmesser (in rare ocasions even a warknife, Kriegsmesser) without breaking the law. That fact facinates me.
I completely agree with you Metatron they put so much effort into the fights the costumes locations everything it's amazing what with them and Dequitem it's embarrassing what we see from Hollywood
And here I was hoping Metatron would react to the nonesensery of the Sword Fight Club. That short film is such a guilty pleasure action flick I keep going back to it
i was just watching a video of hand to hand knife fight between two soldiers in ukraine one of the most horrific things i have ever seen. one of the comments said " think about back in the middle ages when all of war was like this" melee combat is horrific i cant imagine what soldiers went through back then. i would link the video as it is a perfect example of what it actually would have been like but the video is horrifying
The only slight issue with the messer duel is how they kept pausing and turning their back to the opponent. I think the other guy would have just stabbed his opponent in the back at that point.
Ohhh…I love purple carrots. They are insanely sweet and can be used as a dye. In fact, I didn’t realize just how just touching them would be. I had purple hands for over 2 weeks!
4:55 - They DO have polearms in KCD, but the problem is you can't keep them in your inventory (which I guess is more realistic compared to other games). You can fight with them, but eventually you have to just drop them on the ground. They also have no perks or skills in the combat skill tree. So for that reason I suppose they are kind of forgettable.
@ Easy method how to differentiate us are letters. We Czechs have a lot of letters with stuff above them like č, ř, á and so on, Poles do have some of them but they also have the overly long letter clusters with cz sz ie and so on.

i was just watching a video of hand to hand knife fight between two soldiers in ukraine one of the most horrific things i have ever seen. one of the comments said " think about back in the middle ages when all of war was like this" melee combat is horrific i cant imagine what soldiers went through back then.
i would link the video as it is a perfect example of what it actually would have been like but the video is horrifying
The only slight issue with the messer duel is how they kept pausing and turning their back to the opponent. I think the other guy would have just stabbed his opponent in the back at that point.
You are correct about Messer meaning knife and Langmesser meaning long knife. 👍
I would expect nothing less from the Italians than referring to tomatoes as gold 😂
agree with u and i follow them since long time. i was even thinking to move to Cechia just to practice :D
best sword fight in movies i ever saw was from Polish movie "Ogniem i mieczem" 1999 (With Fire and Sword)
Ohhh…I love purple carrots. They are insanely sweet and can be used as a dye. In fact, I didn’t realize just how just touching them would be. I had purple hands for over 2 weeks!
The castle in bohemia in the fighting video ! i am pretty sure thats talmberg in KCD. so pretty man
It is castle Kost
The smallsword duel is probably my favorite despite being only available max 480p.
You should watch their video Swords not Words, a fun take with excellent fighting.
You should also check Akademia Szermierzy, another Czech group that does action plays based on German and Italian swordsmanship.
That name hints somewhat that they're Polish... ;)
@richardaubrecht2822 . I'm an American and I wouldn't know one thing from another, I do my best to be culture but you know....
@ Easy method how to differentiate us are letters. We Czechs have a lot of letters with stuff above them like č, ř, á and so on, Poles do have some of them but they also have the overly long letter clusters with cz sz ie and so on.
