Good impression, you nailed the way we say 'Newfoundland' and 'whatta ya at by', and in the inhaled 'h'yeah/h'yuh', but Newfies aren't exactly known for saying 'across the pond'... " 'cross the h'ocean" is more likely lol. Great video

Lol my sister's friend is dating an Irish guy who moved to Canada. When I first met him, I partied with him all night and it wasn't until the next day I realized he was Irish. I just thought he was from Newfoundland or something. Being sober the next day may have helped me to hear more of his accent and words that didn't quite sound Newfie. It was like one of those moments in movies where all the pieces of the puzzle finally click for the character and they remember all the clues and hints and are like "oh my god how did I not notice?" lol.

Love this! As Newfoundlander, I love our connection to our Irish roots. One interesting thing I'll share with you. The term Newfie isn't used by all Newfoundlanders. Depending on where you're from, (or how old you are), you may see it as a humourous nickname, or as a slur. For ages upon ages, Newfoundlanders were the butt of the "stupid Newfie" jokes, told by mainlanders and many an American who lived here on one of several US bases. Newfoundlanders took back the "Newfie joke", making the butt of the joke the CFA (come-from-away), but to this day, the term 'Newfie' still manages to raise a few hackles, in spite of many an islander owning it, and using it. Cheers! A long lost Irish cousin. 😁

Well, a lot of, a lot of people have a family background way back from Ireland. The Rock is an isolated island, not part of Canada until after WWII. It stands to reason that the accent has changed a bit, but not a whole lot. People who came to Canada spread out everywhere over a massive country. That changes things.
